No, I think he was commenting on the fact that the team seemed to abandon GTA3 when VC came out, and made 3 versions of the VC client. It's funny you should say that though maksio, because MTA 0.4 came out recently, which combines both GTA3 and Vice City into a single client, and is a massive improvement on the old GTA3 client.

Yeah, you'd have to practically reinvent the wheel in order to port MTA to Xbox, and by the time you do that, the console would most likely be obsolete. I know that PS3 is planned for next year, and I doubt that Microsoft would allow Sony to get a head start in the next-gen race.

Btw, there's no guarantee of it being in the new core, as the features have not yet been stated.

They sound like "side games" rather than proper game modes that apply to everyone in the server. But they would add a bit of variation to standard DM.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think that when (or indeed if) they bring it back, they should scrap the "fancy stuff" - i.e. the scanlines and the counter, and just combine 0.3 and 0.4 to show the character, with the weapons, next to the spawn point.

That's not a bad idea, but it'll take a fair bit of work (plus permission to query the ASE master). Not so much better graphics (I don't want it to turn into Gamespy Arcade *shudders*), but the interface does need a bit of work, in my opinion. You also have to remember that the client runs in the background whilst the game is running, so you don't want it TOO graphical, otherwise it'll take up a huge amount of memory. They're always working on cheat prevention. You're not a cheater because you having no CD does not give you an advantage over other players (the definition of cheating).

I think that MTA is a prisoner of their own success. I mean, if you compare the site and the software to GTAT, it's a whole lot more professional, and so people tend to expect a professional, polished, bug-free mod like Counter-Strike.

Kind of. You can administer a "slap", which minuses 20 HP's.

Stunt mode was a quick last-minuter because they didn't manage to get it working with the new code until just before release. Hence stunt is exactly the same as it was in 0.3. As Mad Boy said, it's a beta. It's (moderately) easy to create new game mode scripts with MTAMA for teamplay. The devs need to iron out the bugs before they can incorporate new features. You have to remember that Counter-Strike has been out for years, and the current version is the result of loads of patches and updates to tweak it. Plus Half-Life was actually intended to be modded and have multiplayer. But I do agree with you that there's not much to keep you playing for several hours at a time. Boats and planes are unavailable with the current core. A lot of things aren't possible with the current 0.3 core, and MTA 0.4 stretches what is possible to its limits. Core 0.4 is in development and is currently at 50%, and more patches / updates are planned for MTA 0.4.

That's possibly not the best way of putting it, but I agree with you. The government is so keen not to appear racist that the police force has to arrest an (almost) equal number of black and white people, so that it doesn't look like they're "targeting" a particular group. Anyway, on topic: Such a crash as you described could be caused by: 1. Setting the wrong version of VC in the client 2. The fact that your EXE has been changed. I heard an Australian say that GTA3 works fine with a censored EXE, but the VC problem has been with MTA for a long time.

Hmmm... I voted "no" before reading the rest, and now I want to change my vote to a separate release without CRC checking. And yeah, I fully agree that a lot of modders / cheaters are lazy bastards who want to make life easy for themselves. Also, a lot of people don't seem to realise that running mods isn't (currently) allowed.

I think scripts should be able to change the "map" parameter that ASE uses (e.g. to "Vice City Manhunt").

Oh, it probably uses something called File Scripting Object. I used that in one of my programs to create a shortcut and Norton flagged up a scripting alert. I don't think it's anything to worry about unless it's being used in a web page.

Ah yeah, I noticed that on the MTA client dialog. I wouldn't worry about it - they either forgot or didn't think it was worth updating it. Regarding not being able to connect to a server, you have to look carefully in the bottom right-hand corner of ASE to check that the version is 0.4.1, otherwise you get a "Connection refused: Incompatible version" error. Or you could use the updated ASE filters.txt file for 0.4.1 that someone posted somewhere on these forums.

I noticed today that ASE had updated their filters to include the latest patch for Battlefield: Vietnam, but still no sign of any MTA 0.4 filters, which I found strange.
