  1. Oh, I didn't have a problem with the altimeter - it was just the other suggestions.
  2. You need to edit the configuration file in order to do that (also it possibly could explain why there are significantly more VC servers listed in ASE then GTA3 ones). It is called mtaserver.conf and is located in the same directory as the server file. To edit it, just open it in Notepad.
  3. Well, actually I've never ever tried to get in there. What I didn't like, though, was that the actors would be displayed on the radar (so you'd think they were real players) and you'd be able to see their name tags through the wall. I don't mind where they are, just as long as I don't know that they're there.
  4. Yeah, don't forget that MTA 0.4 servers are located in the "Other" section in ASE because they have yet to update their filters.
  5. I think what soraflair meant was that he / she had already tried looking at the manuals on the site, only to find that they were out of date. The manuals are in fact included with the install of MTA, and can be found in the Start Menu.
  6. A couple of days, I would have thought. If you look around these forums, you'll see that a couple of people have edited the ASE filters to include 0.4 (but remember to back up your old filters.txt just in case).
  7. Does the other machine have a firewall? This could account for the problem with hosting the game on the other machine.
  8. Are you a flight sim fan by any chance? GTA's about fun, not accuracy to the nth degree. I think a lot of the things you are suggesting would alienate the majority of the audience, who just want to have fun.
  9. A lot of people dislike change, simple as that. I found it interesting to note that the number of servers for 0.4 at one point exceeded those of 0.3, but now there are more 0.3 servers. Despite this though, there seem to be more players playing 0.4 than 0.3. I think going back to 0.3 is a bit juvenile. You've waited 7 months for it, I'm sure you can wait an extra 2-3 weeks for a patch. I find that the problems don't impact on my enjoyment of the game in any way.
  10. Yeah, that's why I said it'd be difficult to sort out. Oh, and LittleTeun, I was hosting it on a dedicated machine so I didn't have to alt+tab or anything.
  11. 1. I don't recall the team begging you to download their mod. 2. It's a beta. Do you not know what that word means? 3. Even the GTA games where not perfect on release. Have you not heard of patches? 4. There are several multiplayer mods available. Why don't you try those? Or, if you're so confident in your ability, why don't you make your own? 5. These people are doing it for free in their spare time. There's no such thing as "more dev time". 6. They've been doing this longer than any other multiplayer mod. I think they know what they're doing. 7. All hail the Lord of Perfection, who makes no mistakes! I bow before thee! 8. I've said this about 100 times: 0.3 was not perfect upon release, hence it was patched. It is the same situation for 0.4. 9. MTA will never be perfect because GTA was never designed for multiplayer. 10. I think the "negative" part of your name is very fitting

    MTA 0.4 RELEASED

How quickly do you think they can program this?! I predict that SA will be out at least a year before MTA 1.0 is. I'd suspect that they'd release a beta (or several) of SA beforehand, separate to the main release. It has fixed some of the problems (improved aiming system, for instance), but as Bump said, it's a beta. Also, it's impossible for something to be new and improved. Not everyone owns VC, remember. It seems a bit pointless having to own Vice City in order to play GTA3 on it. I'm confident that the colour bugs will be fixed (possibly in a later core). In fact, I'm sure that a lot of problems will go away with the new core, because 0.3 was specifically designed for Vice City (which I'd guess was one of the reasons for the lengthy development period).
  13. Sorry, asking for release dates isn't allowed. My estimation would be 2-3 weeks, based on how long it took them to update the 0.3 server to 0.3.1 once the flooding vulnerability was discovered.
  14. Yeah, select Multi Theft Auto in the list of games in the options menu and click "Auto Search" to find it. Note that MTA 0.4 servers are currently listed under "Other" as they do not yet have their own section.
  15. There's a utility called EndItAll. I'm not sure if you can set hotkeys, but I would have thought so (otherwise it's a bit pointless). When you run it, it displays a window listing all of the running processes, at which point you can set which ones should NOT be closed (e.g. Explorer.exe). So you could set it not to close MTAClient.exe, and it would close VC but not MTA.
  16. Not to mention spectator mode for stunt mode. I agree with Black Dragon (although he possibly could have phrased it better to avoid offence). Couldn't the actors be in the sea or off the level completely?

    MTA 0.4 RELEASED

The team didn't change that - it's part of the game. However, I'm sure you could use Admin+ and MTAMA to limit or even prohibit car killing (however, bear in mind that the kill credit system is slightly dodgy at the moment and you may punish the wrong person).
  18. Ok, thanks. I don't want to overload you with work, but I was playing GTA3:MTA over my LAN today with a friend, and we came across the following problems (actually, we came across more, but I forgot to write them down): 1. I'm not really sure how you'd sort it out, but the race time is seriously unsynced, to the extent that one of us would get 1 or 2 secs head start of the other. Luckily we're nice guys and waited for the other person to start. On one occasion, I used MTAMA to change the time slightly, and the packet to my friend's machine must have been lost, to the extent that his Turismo timer was about 20 secs behind mine, so I had to wait for his to start before I drove off. 2. My friend was racing in a police car, and it happened to blow up and he was disqualified. I then happened to die slightly later on and respawn near the police car's spawn point, where I saw it fully damaged with the arrow still above it, despite the fact that the race had ended. 3. I'm not sure how everyone else feels about this, but if all of your opponents get disqualified, I reckon you should win straight away and not have to finish the race. 4. Small bug: If you pull into one of the hotspots, it looks like drivers already in them are facing the wrong way. Thanks.
  19. Yeah, but then again, in some games' cutscenes, you see characters doing karate kicks and stuff that you can't do as a player.
  20. Hmmm.... The most expensive over here (UK) is 2MB, the cheapest being a measly 128kb. And that's still pretty expensive. <1ms ping?? I never get that on my LAN. We're talking 20-50ms. Yeah, they're not synced at all. In a perfect world, they'd be disabled completely so that you can't even fire them.

    Multi-Mafia

Well, the closest thing to Max Payne online would be The Opera (mod) for Half-Life, with slow-mo dual pistol gunfights and so on.
  22. Are you running a firewall? Btw, some of the categories are locked in the support forum - namely the one(s) for moderators.
  23. Aren't .net skills transferrable to other .net languages? (But anyway, this wouldn't make any difference because MTA uses C++)
  24. No, that means that they've fixed it but haven't released a patch yet.
