A gamemode I'd like to see would be a CTF mode based on Jizzy's T-Bone Mendez mission. In this mission, you have to chase some guys on motorbikes and steal the packages from the back of their bikes. This could easily be adapted to a CTF or tag mode and would be different from CTF modes in other games.

DirectX is for Windows only and Windows costs money. By forcing games to be DX only, they are effectively dissuading developers from developing for or porting games to alternative operating systems, thus encouraging more people to buy Windows in order to play games. It also probably makes it easier to port applications to the Xbox 360 too.
-
... so Microsoft emulating OpenGL in Windows Vista in order to make it slower and thus force people to use DirectX isn't a monopolistic activity?
-
Strange that everyone's acting as if the game's been banned, including Rockstar. It seems that those people over 18 who bought the AO version have to forfeit the AO content in order to get bug fixes.

They're doing alright for money. They spend more on research than Microsoft does. I think they want market share more than profit.

Apple have just released MightMouse which has 4 buttons I think, but you can plug in almost any USB mouse and it should work (albeit without some of its more complex functions). I was thinking more of the fact that in order to get the Mac OS you HAVE to buy your machine from Apple. Even though they are switching to Intel chips in the next year or so, they've included a special chip on the motherboard that prevents you from installing the OS on a non-Apple machine. People will try their hardest to crack Mac OS for Intel so that it works on non-Apple machines and I hope that they succeed and show Apple that there is a market for people who want the Mac OS but do not necessarily want an Apple PC.

yeah...only 0.3 and 0.4 version worked on win98 and 0.4.1 For [uVA]Smoke:verò guagliò Nope, neither 0.3, 0.4 or 0.4.1 worked on 98. I haven't played 0.1 or 0.2 so I don't know about those. I know that GTA3 0.3b worked on 98 though.

If you check the blog, the MTA team said that they can get it working with the patch with only a couple of minor code changes. In fact, Blokker recommended running MTA:SA with the patch, as it includes extra bugfixes.
-
... that's if the new SA has the 1.01 patch.

[MOD]GTATournament: online Multiplayer (GTA San Andreas)
orappa replied to Toreno's topic in Other GTA Mods
I don't think Draco did it so that he could say he was he first. He was the first - so what? If I were making a mod, I'd prefer it to be the best than the first. It's a much better claim to fame. I'm sure Draco sees it this way too. -
The problem with Macs is that Apple is the only manufacturer of them and so they don't see large retail distribution. If they'd let other manufacturers make their own hardware for the Mac OS, they'd have a much larger market share. On the other hand, one of the reasons why Macs are stable is because they don't have to cater for the millions of possible potentially-conflicting hardware configurations.

I reckon they should leave all damages, accuracies, etc alone for the first DM release and observe what needs balancing from the public tests for subsequent releases.
-
I have to agree - that picture is already on the internet, although that doesn't mean that we should automatically accept it either.

Favourite for games: Windows Favourite for everything else: Mac

Is it possible to delay the release to make it compatible with this patch? Once more noobs come in, they will ask "why can't my version work?". That should be avoided, unless you host the 1.0 exe and let others download it, but I don't think rockstar would like that. Yeah but the majority of people will be using the standard 1.0 version until the new M release comes out. Remember that the first version of MTA:SA is a kind of "preview" version.

They don't get locked / moved if you put them in General.
-
I hated the controls at first but I've got used to them now, as I suspect most people have as I haven't heard anyone complain about it for a long time.
-
It might be a bit hefty for 56k users. It'll take them about 17 secs to download, so you might want to see if you can shave off a couple of KB's here and there.
-
I don't have a problem with it. What made you think people would?

Not until they release the SDK, although apparently you can create new routes for the race mod by making your own .race files.
-
The race mode itself won't be sectioned up because you'd be constrained by the route anyway. As for DM though... who knows? I expect we'll hear more about it after the first release.
-
Yes but they've put development on the client on hold until the release of the patch for SA so there may well be a DM version of MTA by the time that SA-MP is released.
-
In MTA 0.5, there are only two types of gameplay - Deathmatch and Stunt. MTA:SA will run on the new Blue core which supports mods so such a mode will be perfectly possible to achieve with MTA:SA (which isn't out yet, btw).
