It's strange that people are encouraging typing commands in Blue when Blue offers more ways of interfacing options and commands with the game by adding your own GUI over the top. Chat commands are only used now because there's no real alternative. If typing commands was so popular, we'd all still be using DOS.

[MOD]GTATournament: online Multiplayer (GTA San Andreas)
orappa replied to Toreno's topic in Other GTA Mods
Is this similar to the methods that Blue uses? -
apart from mta Yeah, but it costs people in time and loss of a social life (if they had one to lose in the first place, that is). That time could be spent working and earning money so the cost would be the lost revenue.

[MOD]GTATournament: online Multiplayer (GTA San Andreas)

I've now changed the topic title so that it's more relevant to the content. I don't really like the idea of having two topics though, even with the flaming in this one. -
What happened to the postcounts?

So what happens when you get all five? Do you win something? Are all of life's problems solved? -
Generally such pyramid schemes only benefit the person who started them, and there are always more users than prizes so the chances of you winning are slim. My advice would be to get a job and buy an iPod because nothing in life is free.

think about the Pentium III 's the game wil be running on, you really think those computers can handle 64 players? I'm not sure that SA would even run on a P3. But anyway, think of the people who don't have P3's. Where would gaming be today if developers designed their games for the lowest common denominator?

The restarting problem could be due to the game encountering an exception error. Windows is set to restart automatically by default when it encounters such an error. To switch it off, go to Start > Control Panel > System, click on the Advanced tab and then click Settings under Startup & Recovery and deselect the box saying to automatically restart upon system failure. That should stop the restarting but the error will still occur. The fact that it occurs after 15 mins or so could imply that you have poor cooling inside your machine. Or it could be a bug with the game.

Yeah, San Andreas is good but that doesn't mean I no longer like GTA3 or VC.
-
This isn't a problem with MTA so I've moved this to General.
-
Yeah, that looks like Windows 98 or Me. MTA only works on XP and 2000. They said that Blue (the next core) may work on older operating systems but they haven't tested that yet.

Ha ha, no way. I wouldn't suggest hosting a high player-count server on a home connection as ISPs tend to limit your upload rate which is important for a server. You could host a low player-count server with a broadband connection though - a 128k upload rate should be ok for that.
-
It should be easier in PHPBB 3.0 (Olympus) which supports them natively, but no-one knows when it's coming out. It was due "before the end of 2004" but still no sign.

You could still try updating your drivers. I managed to get past that little problem yesterday by downloading modified drivers that actually recognised by card, and the SA problem when changing graphics settings disappeared.

I put the blame solely on the press. They want to stir up people's passions even if that means lying or being selective about the truth *cough* Daily Mail *cough* I've heard reports by psychology experts saying that there's no link between videogames and real-life violence (in normal people anyway) and that videogames can actually improve problem-solving skills. I didn't see the press printing that I think Hollywood must be glad that videogames came along because they used to get the brunt of the lawsuits. I went to see Sin City a couple of weeks back and one guy gets his head literally pounded into mush, not to mention "manual" castration (if you catch my drift). I've never seen anything like that in GTA.

Crashes to desktop can often be caused by older graphics card drivers. My machine crashes whenever I change graphics settings in the menu because I have old drivers and whenever I download the latest driver set, it accuses me of not having an Nvidia graphics chip when I have.... Anyway, to answer your question, anything that affects the operation of single player is likely to affect the operation of multiplayer.

I've noticed that the car crash physics have changed. Handling feels a little different too, particularly at high speeds.

Should free-aiming for drivers be allowed in MTA:SA?
orappa replied to a topic in General discussion
My driveby tactic is to run them over. I found that this is much quicker. -
Most of the data is processed by your computer, not the server. The server just synchronises information (although this may be different with Spearhead). If the map's bigger, all the server has to do is store bigger numbers for your coordinates. It's just an independent program that doesn't need GTA in order to operate.

You really need to read http://www.mtablue.info

Should free-aiming for drivers be allowed in MTA:SA?
orappa replied to a topic in General discussion
I think if the driver can't free aim, he's more likely to pick up passengers who can which will encourage teamwork. -
One thing I noticed in GTA3/VC single player was that Claude/Tommy would face the camera when they're coming out of garage. Then, when they're out of the garage, the camera would zoom in to the normal view and if you press forwards again, you'd end up walking into the garage again. That's probably why they changed it in SA.

Good work guys. Even {DBC}Lance was impressed so it must be good.

MTA funtioning with other online mods
orappa replied to =BDC=Kenny's topic in General Blue discussion
But if not, it's simple enough to make a second install of GTA.
