  1. I usually have assault armour (the middle one) along with a spinfusor, chaingun, missile launcher and plasma rifle. I always have the repair pack so that I can repair myself if people start firing at me when I have the flag. I agree with Rebel in that I've never seen a cheater either (dunno why - I'm not complaining though). And I would well advise that you check out the video clip. Unfortunately, I've never had a match as good as that one, but it's perfectly possible to pull one off with the right people (and voice comms).
  2. I found this site on Google by pressing the wrong key: http://www.ala.org/Template.cfm?Section ... ntID=24635 It's intended for libraries, but 90% of the content is relevant to what you want to know. If you look on the bright side of it, all these comments bump the topic up and stop it slipping onto the second page (which hardly anyone looks at).
  3. Hopefully that'll change with these free versions out (as long as they are well publicised).
  4. Ah yeah, but that's on the assumption that he has a Blockbuster local to his area. Consumers tend to be willing to pay extra for convenience. I doubt he's expecting it to be a multi-million business anyway...
  5. Nope, it's when a packet gets dropped and so the receiving PC doesn't realise that the player has been hit. You don't get this in other games because it is handled by the server and not the client.
  6. Not me. I personally prefer the visual style of GTA 3, as the '80s isn't my favourite era... And...er... vehicles don't fare too well with me , so I'll be leaving the dodo well alone (I don't touch helis in VC either).
  7. Lol, it's nice to know I'm not the only one
  8. I think they encourage it, as it's free advertising.
  9. But isn't it against the law to make a crack? This stuff always confuses me because no-one can seem to decide what's legal and what's not.
  10. I suppose it could crudely be described as Battlefield 1942 in the future (but it came out ages before BF, btw) with pilotable vehicles, turrets, generators, inventory stations, outposts, etc, etc. all contributing to the unique gameplay. Oh yeah, and you get a jetpack The spinfusor is one of the best weapons ever invented. Oh, and it takes place on huge maps with sprawling terrain and weather effects with up to 64 players. The graphics are pretty decent too. It has loads of gametypes: CTF, Capture and Hold, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Rabbit (a manhunt mode), Team Rabbit, Team Rabbit 2 (a bit like football / hockey), Hunters (really fun - you kill people for flags and pass them through a goal), Team Hunters. Official Site: http://www.tribes2.com Fan sites: http://www.planettribes.com , http://www.tribalwar.com , http://www.tribes2maps.com I was going to post some screenshots, but you can't really do it justice with 2 or 3, so check out the Press screenies here: http://www.planettribes.com/tribes2/images.shtml That'll explain why it didn't sell well, I suppose
  11. No self-respecting web host would allow their servers to be used as game servers, as it would put a heavy load on both CPU power and bandwidth, so there's no point trying. You don't need to necessarily keep your computer open all the time. You could, say, just run the server for 2 hours in the evening and invite your mates to join it. Who?
  12. Nice one Rebel. It's good to see one of the most underrated games of all time being marketed. I played Tribes 2 first, so I never really got into the original much. I bought Tribes 2 by chance when it first came out because the screenshots on the back of the box looked quite good. I paid about £35 for it (almost $70 I think) which is a lot, but I've had about 300 hours worth of pleasure from it, so it was well worth the money. I can't say this for any other game, which is a shame. What's even more shameful is that it didn't sell well and still didn't sell when they offered it for £10 (about $18 I think). There is absolutely no excuse now not to take up this fantastic offer. After all, you have virtually nothing to lose. I did notice that it's not the easiest game to get into, but if you do the tutorials before venturing online you should get to know the complexities of the game.
  13. It's a lot more cost effective for free providers to cram as many accounts onto one server as is physically possible, so the bandwidth and processing power would be so low that it would be virtually unplayable anyway.
  14. No, a board thread discussing the general balancing of MTA would be entitled "Thread to discuss the general balancing of MTA". Note that the title does not restrict it to certain categories such as the default weapons' contribution to this.
  15. I hate little sayings like that, because theres always something that sounds equally as wise on the flipside. For instance: "The more the merrier" "Strength comes in numbers" etc Yeah, true. But what I meant was that basic economic theory dictates that after a while, any additional labour added to the production of a commodity will (eventually) result in a negative output increment. So basically, if you add too many people then the mod will suffer as a result.
  16. Well, actually yes, it would take a long time (in total) for them to post a new movie / screens and it would eat into valuable development time. What people seem to forget is that these guys do this in their spare time. Too many cooks spoil the broth, quality is better than quantity, etc, etc.
  17. One now! I noticed that the emoticons are yellow on the support forum, so maybe that has something to do with it. It's no big deal anyway, just very strange.
  18. Hmm... I can't see it being very popular among most Windows users with such confusing addresses.
  19. Yeah, but imagine how much time that would add on to the release date - we're talking at least double time just for one feature. Also, completely unrelated, does anyone know where the blue emoticons are going? There were 3 left this morning, and I'm looking now and there's only 2
  20. I think thats COOL! Well why not? Then you must do it right... and it only cost $100, but i dont know how all the price must be. Yeah, I agree. If you have money in the game, it's not much fun if you have nothing to spend it on.
  21. Yeah, it would offer more tactics and more teamwork (which can only be a good thing), but I can't really see it being included, unfortunately.
  22. Yeah, but you'd want a rope or something. Just having the car / bike hovering there would look... clumsy.
  23. Yeah, mine's not very good and crashes quite often: Athlon 1000 (don't laugh) 512MB PC133 SDR RAM Windows Me
  24. I personally use Babelfish - http://babelfish.altavista.com It supports loads of languages: English > Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portugese, Russian, Spanish. If you go to Translate a web page and type in http://forum.mtavc.com it works like a charm (not all sites do).
