Improvement suggestions to MTA (from a programmer)
Si|ent replied to agent_dark64's topic in Suggestions
The problem with turning it on its head in this way (client says if you hit someone rather than client saying if you were hit) is really down to the lag and latency in the mod as it stands. People would be dying for no apparent reason (thier end) as to them their opponents shots could be wide of the mark yet their opponent had 'decided' you are hit. So it would simply shift the problem. And it doesnt bear thinking about a player becoming desyncd and being able to kill everyone when not even visible to other players. Nor the oppertunity for 'aim bots' and other hacks to aid your accuracy. The current method isnt perfect and your suggestion would also not be perfect. Unfortunately without access to GTA's source we have to find alternative ways to handle multiplayer and so far i think we have done a pretty outstanding job. The new methods we are using within the next core should hopefully give us many more options than currently. -
'Enemy' was banned at 4.45am this morning (UK time)

Ag 0.4 is approaching and I for one will be spending a lot of time in the gta3 version as well as the vice city one I thought we should start thinking about a VCA Headquarters in Liberty City. If any of you have some suggestions lets hear them

Or they can alter thier game to not allow themselves to be damaged in the first place as the actual hit identification would still be client side. Resulting in the anti cheat having to combat that. There are no easy solutions unfortunately. Note that doesnt mean there are no solutions however -

erm. Thats exactly how it does do it already. -
luigi if it was definately going to be in then there would be no harm leaving your post. refer to my post above re people deciding things are promised just because they appear to be in

After 10 days all decent releasable images have been shown. See http://upload.mtavc.com/personal/MrBump/mta/index.htm for all ten days worth.

Seems there is just no telling some people.

MTA:VC 0.2 Weapon Pick-up Locations Map. WARNING: SPOILER!
Si|ent replied to Si|ent's topic in Useful topics
Mac 10 isnt used by VCC. There is at least one pickup for every weapon each career has EXCEPT the m60 -
You cant. You would have to use /msg instead and script it to only relay from the second word onwards. Or third if you used a password. Which I'd strongly recommend to prevent everyone on the server from discovering and talking via admin

One problem with what you suggest is the server wont know if there is anything inbetween the shooter and the target. cars, trees, walls etc. Can't have wallhacking built in -
The problem with making a video of any length is it would show some things that may not make it to the final release. Things have already changed in the latest build since the semi-public Beta the screenshots are taken from for example. These tests are held to see how what we have so far holds up with more players ingame, a strss test if you like. They often bring problems to light we hadn't come across up to that point. That is their purpose. But this can mean some of the newer features need to be altered or occasionally removed altogether. Yet we all know if media of any kind is released showing a feature 90% of the people who see that will think it is 'promised'. We did release a very small video of trx and Kent fighting. All going well 0.4 shouldnt be too far away from release and at that point of course you can experience the gameplay yourself rather than watching a video

Improvement suggestions to MTA (from a programmer)

First off thanks for the interest. your first suggestion of using a prediction model is something we have considered before and that may well appear in the future. We cannot implement everything at once. Although the issue is slightly more complicated than you suggest due to the odd nature of player movement versus animation used in vc. This is why 0.3 seems 'skippyer' than 0.2 (that had no player walking/running anims) Validating locations/speed isnt as easy as it sounds. A brief look at the 'bugs' post in the Screens and movies section would show you there are many teleport locations and 'holes' in the vc map that would trigger what you suggest. Your final zonal suggestion is already used up to a point. Though note the gta3/vc engine DOES render things at a high distance due to the way we create/manipulate the actors and vehicles ingame. -
So. Are you suggesting the answer to his server giving high pings to distant people is to run it in a wormhole?
-
Good idea Oli. It is of course possible to specify in the scripts.mrc which server each section runs on but its rather messy and takes a lot of work to then include it in another etc. So having the option built in to mtama would be excellent.

Out of all of those the only thing we have said will be in is spectator mode. And there have been several times we have regretted saying even that. If it hadn't been promised you'd more that likely have 0.4 to play already. But it should be worth the wait. (Especially for all those Dodo pilots out there)

We did try to implement RC vehicles in 0.2. unfortunately they had many problems not associated with normal vehicles. no collision and instant crash for any player joining when one was in use for instance. So unfortunately they had to be removed. Perhaps in future cores we will find it easier to get around these shortcomings. I hope so as flying an RC Plane was great fun.

You started off saying you know he shouldn't reveal information. Then proceed to ask him to anyway?

It's not a case of what we would prefer. Its a game review not an indepth report on insider dealing. Most reviews will rave about a game if the reviewer liked it. Or criticise it heavily if they did not. Neither stance is unbiased as it is the reviewers opinion therefore WILL be biased. And as the majority of people reading these forums are already fans (not to mention the hardcore few who will bother to write a review) it is doubly likely to be biased.

MTA Server. Grand Theft Auto Vice City. Two different things. Former compatible with both win32 and linux. Latter only win32 compatible. As actually I am sure you are fully aware. If all you wish to do is pick holes in arguments by pretending to totaly misunderstand the meaning of our statements then this is a waste of both yours and our time. Locked

Duffbeer. If the first post had been made by me it would have been.

We don't mean coding problems. ie crashing/instability. We refer to problems caused by people abusing the information they can obtain about mta via your source. Please respect our request that you do not put the mod that thousands enjoy playing at risk of becoming unplayable due to the potentially dangerous release of your 'bot' I appreciate that linux users are unable to use mirc easily. Note that the mtama is an addon. a bonus. not something included with mta. Linux users have similar problems when wanting to PLAY mta. Do you complain to rockstar that the gta3 series is win32 based? Aeron worked with me all the way through mtama development. From conception to release. Ensuring the entire team approved of and provided input regarding its release and content. Perhaps visiting us on our irc and maintaining a similar dialogue would be more constructive and lead to something approved for release.

Thats because the replay system doesnt show a precorded movie as such it actually takes control of the game engine and recreates the action. So to MTA it sees you spawning cars, changing coords of yourself and others and suddenly gaining weapons etc. It doesnt like that Remember its beta. Replays are just one of the things that are still a bit flakey
