  1. It has some errors. First : While we combine Santa with Christmas, Santa has actually nothing to do with the christian religion. Second, the avg household worldwide does not have 3.5 Children
  2. We have absoluty no idea. We know what we want to see implemented before release and sure, we can put an estimate on it. But that's it. I don't even dare to state how far we are away from the original internal release date. And how does it happen? We change our roadmap, real life catches up, we find small bugs that create big set backs. If we would say today that we would release in let's say two months and something comes up and we don't make it, then a week later people will be bitching like hell at us for not making the 'promised' release date. We have seen it before.
  3. and it's the truth. It's impossible to put a time on it.
  4. with the manual i was more refering to the fact that people often ask question (often trough email or on IRC) that are answered in the official documentation. Be it our manual or the mta:ma readme files. People don't want to read a text. they simply want the answers to their questions without having to search for it. And that is wrong.
  5. The fact that it is race only is stated on the downloadpage. A lot of questions that are asked are also in the manual. So excuse me if people fail to read things they should.
  6. you say it yourself, it is mentioned on the download page, what more can we do? Is it our fault that people don't read? Should we really ruin our site with bigh high contrast letters stating that what people should read anyway? People expect something, see the word download and click on it. Only to be dissapointed, not our fault that they don't read the text that is posted on the download page, not our fault that they don't read news posts correctly, ... . People today are lazy. Why is it that most people don't even search for a solution or an answer anymore? Do you really think they take the time to read something? No they want answers to their questions immidiatly. They want everything at once without having to do anything themselves. If anyone is dissapointed it is their own fault, not ours. We have informed people.
  7. problem is : noobs disregard everything. they don't read anything, they just come here to ask their question and that's it.
  8. You can not see your own local server in the server list. The only way to check if it is publicly available is by asking someone else to check if they can see it in ASE.
  9. slothman, don't push it ...
  10. We are currently in alpha testing, beta testing will start when we are feature complete. Testing with a hundred people isn't more productive then with a small group. Right now we know the people who are testing and they know what we expect from them and what they need to look at. You don't want to test, you don't want to find bugs all you want is to play and every time something goes wrong you would get annoyed with the fact that it goes wrong.

    Trivia Bot

now why in gods name would you want to do that? ppl go to a server to play the game, if they want trivia they'll usually go somewhere else. I would personally get annoyed by the spamming of the chatbox and simply go to another server.

  15. I just checked the script file we used in older versions and that one states that we delete file by file. The last removal that happens is indeed the installation directory itself but it does not have the /R switch, R means recursivly. In other words with /R it would start deleting all subfolders and files, without it it would only delete a folder if it is empty. So, what version are you using and where did you download it.
  16. Since it is bindable you can change it into whatever you want
  17. In theory, when gtasa.exe crashes the error reporter should notice it and intercept the error, find the details of what happend, close the app and broadcast the error to us. In some rare cases the reporter does not work.
  18. Most people who come to our frontpage do so to check the news. Therefore it is better to have the news on the frontpage. Even if we put some text on the front page that explains what MTA is and the fact that the latest release is race only people would still just search for the download and complain later. Don't forget that most players actually get here from external sites/forums or simply download the modification somewhere else. I do agree that we should change the description a bit on the downloadpage to indicate that the current release is race only. However, i would like to point out that the installer itself does mention that it is a race mod.
  19. While it is your server, it is our software. We do not allow cheats or hacks. while you can use them in a private server at first, their will be nothing stopping you from using it on a public server later. In order to do what you want, you have to hack our files, that in turn is a violation of the EULA which you agreed with when you installed our software. Breaking the EULA means that you no longer have the right to use our software.
  20. Hi, welcome. We have a subforum for suggestions and we are developing an SDK so people can expand MTA as they see fit.
  21. ever done a real personality test? They give you about a thousand statements (it's mostly the same statements reformulated over and over again and combined with others) and they show them with 4 at a time. And then you have to say what statement comes closest to you and what statement is not. And in the end you get a decent profile about you. It's tme consuming, but it is correct.
  22. If someone is smart enough to write a program that can crack the password that way, then they can do the same with the released admin protocol, in the end it does not matter. But mind you that cracking passwords (well basicly trying every single one cause you would need to brute force it) is something that will take a verry long time. Especially since you would have to wait for the result. Brute forcing something on a local machine goes with (on my system) 5 million attempts per minute and from the moment you have a password of 6or more letters it already takes years to finish it. Now imagine it over the internet where one single attempt takes at least 30ms (ping of 15 which is extremely low) cause you would need to send the information and wait for the return to see if it is correct. That would mean less then 100 attempts per minute. compare that to 5 million on a local machine. And off course you could always build in some protection like 5 failed attempts == ban
  23. So you don't know what telnet is or how it works. As you can see here, we release our admin protocol. So anyone can make his own admin client. The point of the telnet interface is to create an easy to use text system to remotly control the server. So instead of writing a special rcon client that accepts text input and where we would have to basicly convert all text in/output before sending it we decided to do it in the server itself and have it accept telnet conncetions.
