  1. When it crashes, I always disconnect and then reconnect in case someone thinks I'm a pauser. Oh, and am I correct in assuming that it would be a job for the new core, in which case it would not feature in 0.4?

    Bases

I much prefer Double Domination (introduced in 2k3), as it adds a lot more tension to the game. Instead of traditional Domination (in which each base held increments your score), you must hold all bases for a certain amount of time in order to score a point. This is very tense because the other team have to disrupt it before the counter reaches zero.
  3. Well, whenever someone says that to me, I say prove it. And you'll find that you can't because if you produce another link, I could just say that one's "stupid and wrong". In my opinion, there are worse games than GTA. I don't recall any missions where they say "run over pedestrians for points", whereas Carmageddon actually encourages you to do so. Also, whilst quite gory, GTA is nothing compared to Soldier of Fortune. Finally, GTA has an arcade feel to it which means that you never really get immersed in the world and feel that it's real, and so it's quite easy to tell the difference between real life and virtual life.
  4. I'm not sure if a 500MHz machine with 128MB RAM will be able to handle it. It might manage to run it adequately if it's dedicated (i.e. you don't play MTA on the hosting machine), but I very much doubt that it will be able to handle the full 26 players.

  6. Firewall? Router? Btw, this has nothing to do with the exception error.
  7. I've always thought it did that anyway...
  8. To make more money, ISPs tend to offer more connections than they have bandwidth for. This is based on the assumption that most users won't use their connection's potential 100% of the time. I generally browse the web and only sometimes download large files or play online games. If everyone started running game servers on their connections, it would bring down the entire network for a lot of users.
  9. Firstly, I didn't say that it started from the media. I said that they made the problem worse (therefore there must have already been a problem for them to make worse). Why do you think spam's getting worse? Because the media tells stories about spammers and phishers driving around in Porches. Also (coming from a country where guns are banned), I fail to see why people should be allowed guns in the first place. What can they use them for other than killing? The argument seems to be self-protection, but is your police force that bad? And isn't taking the law into your own hands a crime? I don't have a gun and I've never felt threatened or vulnerable. Anyway, back to games: I've said this hundreds of times before, so I'm going to put it into a simple mathematical formula to save time: Normal person + GTA = Normal person Psycho + GTA = Super psycho
  10. He was joking. 0.3.5 was discontinued, and has now become 0.4. In the "Linux" (that's what I call it anyway) numbering system, the third digit is for minor releases. Upgrading GTA3:MTA to the standard of MTA:VC 0.3 (and then some) is no mean feat, hence the jump from 0.3.5 to 0.4. That's my understanding anyway.
  11. Sorry, but it's true. Unreal Tournament 2004 isn't crack-proof at all, but it's so annoying for cheaters / hackers that they avoid it like the plague.
  12. Oh yeah, that didn't occur to me. I forgot that, as MTA is client-side, it's going to use more CPU power than other multiplayer games.
  13. ALL such methods can be cracked. Packets can be spoofed, etc.
  14. I blame both (as there's hardly any difference). People seem to forget that the videogame industry is bigger than Hollywood, with millions of people playing GTA every day, and only 3 or 4 psychos out of millions seems to be pretty good going to me. The media just makes the problem worse with tabloid "news" (I use the word in the loosest possible sense) playing on people's most basic fears. Hey, if it sells papers, screw everyone else...
  15. I'm not sure if drives are a good idea. I've got loads of old hard drives lying around, and it'd be a simple case of installing a new drive and running Virtual PC on it. I also have loads of CD drives that I could put in. Perhaps it should do it by CPU ID or something because they're a lot more expensive, plus the fact that I wouldn't want to put my old slow ones in just to circumvent protection. It would be good in addition to IP banning, because I'm on a LAN so I could connect from the same IP with a different machine.
  16. Yeah, I was talking about the 3 releases for GTA 3's islands. Presumably they'd add an extra number or something e.g. 0.4.2 or something like that.
  17. Win98 patch if I got ME ? I've got Windows Me and I managed to get GTA3:MTA working fine without installing the patch.
  18. But surely that would affect single player too?
  19. Couldn't you: a) Use something like StarDock to change to an XP theme (there are some available) b) Screendump the icons and create individual icons via Microangelo (or otherwise) c) Use some kind of icon ripper (do they exist?) to convert them to individual icons d) "Obtain" XP
  20. Do you have any more details? i.e. how they're flooding it so that other server admins can be aware.
  21. One question: I thought the feature list for 0.4 had been locked down, yet RISO says: When he says "next release", does he mean 0.4 (which would be the next release from my point of view as community member) or 0.4rc2 (or whatever), which would be the next release from the dev's point of view (as they are already familiar with the current (0.4) version). If that makes sense...
  22. What do you mean by "update the site please"? I think he means this one: http://mta.riso.wojjie.net/mags/pcgamer.jpg http://forum.mtavc.com/viewtopic.php?t=7059
  23. What?? No-cd cracks mean that the game doesn't use the CD, but the serial of the drive can still be obtained.
  24. That was in reply to what I said above. But you can't just say random stuff like "I don't want to play as Tommy Vercetti in the next release" because no-one said that you would play as Tommy Vercetti.
  25. How come this was locked and then unlocked?
