Yeah, but it's now April 4th and this topic's not really going anywhere...
-
Isn't qttask something to do with MSN Messenger? It always runs at startup when I install the new version, but Messenger seems to run fine with it disabled.
-
How come the other April Fools topic got locked and this one didn't?
-
Actually, joking around probably benefits the mod, as it relieves stress. I've seen people on other forums get shouted at for making a perfectly good feature suggestion, as it messed up their schedule which they were already behind with.

It's UK (+44).

important/needed suggestions for future mta releases
orappa replied to l2ebel's topic in Suggestions
Yeah, multiplayer GTA 2 has that. It is SO laggy, even across a 100 Base-T LAN with only 2 players (in my experience). Add to that 24 extra players and all the synced animations, and you'll see why they don't include civilians in MTA. -
I reckon it's one of three things: 1) It's actually a "free" server, but really expensive so you end up paying for it through the cost of the phone call 2) It's a "hilarious prank" and it turns out to be a sex line or something 3) Another "hilarious prank" would be if it were one of his "mates", to piss him off, or some random number, just for a "laugh".

Does the cost of the server match the cost of the phone call, by any chance? Edit: Sorry, that should be the other way round.

I think I remember Blokker saying something about wanting to translate the site, but I think MTA currently only works with English language versions of GTA / VC (correct me if I'm wrong). -
There's something similar with MSN Messenger 6, called Solitaire Showdown. I'm not really quite sure what you're supposed to do, but I keep winning somehow, so I must be doing something right

I think ASE has an option to do that anyway. -

Blokker submitted a contest about a month back for people to design their own templates for the site. There's a topic somewhere (I'm too lazy to search for it - probably in General), which I think people generally overlooked and forgot. -
Oh yeah, I can't recommend this game enough. It's like BF1942 in lots of ways - the class system, the vehicles - but the unique elements set it way up above Battlefield (in my opinion), namely the turrets, the jetpacks and the unique packs (e.g. repair packs, cloaking packs, deployable turret packs, etc.) I got the game for full price when it first came out, but I have got literally hundreds of hours of gameplay out of it. There aren't many games that I can lay this claim to. I wouldn't suggest going straight into a server though. I'd suggest doing the tutorials, getting to know the game over a LAN with bots, because I know a lot of new players have simply been slaughtered online because they didn't get to know the game beforehand. Its difficulty curve is higher than most FPS's because it has a lot more elements to the gameplay. This makes it a more rewarding game to play, but can put off a lot of new players.

Yeah, I used to have a progress bar on my site for some of my projects, but I found it difficult to estimate how much I had left to do, especially with last minute bug reports, etc, so I appreciate what you say, Kent. -
Yeah, I've got that. It's pretty good, I'll admit, although I'm not really into the Baldur's Gate style RPG's much. And you're right, it is extremely rare, but there are 5 or 6 copies going around eBay (quite expensive though).

Yeah, I wanted to put something congratulatory like that, but couldn't phrase it correctly. The rhetorical question was intended as a starting point for a compliment. -

I thought all of this stuff had been confirmed. I thought that 0.4 was definitely going to support both of them. However, I do agree that it looks way better than GTA3:MTA 0.3. P.S. I like screenshot No.2 at the petrol station - it's a nice touch You can never prommise anything, its much safer. If we said "it'll definitley have gta3 and vc support", then suddenly it all went wrong, people wouldn't be happy eAi Are you now on the team, eAi? -
Sacrifice - An amazing RPG involving collecting souls and stuff. Whenever I mention it to anyone, they just look at me blankly. It good pretty good reviews as well (in the 80% region). Z: Steel Soldiers - A strategy title involving robots and without annoying "harvesting". This game was awarded Classic status in PC Zone (90% and above), yet failed to sell well. It had stunning graphics at the time (2-3 years ago, the likes of which C&C Generals has only caught up with). I bought it in a second-hand shop for £5 about a week after release, and it was £9.99 (reduced from £29.99) within 2 months .

Yeah, but you can give it an old 98 / Me feel. (Display properties > Themes > Windows Classic) There are upgrade versions of 2000 from 98, but as it's made by Microsoft and intended for businesses... *looks for cash-register sound effect* But there's always good old eBay. -

It's possible to get MTA working on 98, but there would be loads of problems and you'd never get a proper game. MTA works best on XP / 2000. However, the team have said that theoretically, the new 0.4 core (NOT MTA 0.4 - that uses the 0.3 core) will support Windows 98. But by then, 98 will probably be obsolete. If you have the specs to run GTA, you'll have the specs to run XP, so I thoroughly recommend you "acquire" it. -
Perhaps this is digressing from the main point of the topic somewhat, but I heard that Valve recently started beefing up their Steam network ready for the release of Half-Life 2. So, if it was actually going to be released on September 30th, surely they would have upgraded the network in time for that? I think they took too much of an advantage of the hacker attacks.

As always, no. Nobody in their right mind (in the game making world) ever states release dates, they very rarely work out.eAi *Cough*Half-Life 2*Cough*

It's not a bad idea, but I can imagine that a lot of people can't be bothered to uninstall 0.3 and install 0.1 just for one night.
