No prize - it's mainly for fun.

Plus we're still deciding between a knockout and a ladder, or maybe even some other form of competition.

Knockout

Pros

All competing teams have at least three matches (if we use a group system like international football tournaments).

Has a final winning team.

Cons

Once a team is knocked out, it has no more matches.

Ladder

Pros

Teams can have matches when they want - it never ends.

Cons

Teams are not required to play.

It's a more complicated system.

I think the problem with both is that teams either stop playing matches because of the format (knockout), or because they don't need to (ladder).

Maybe what's needed is some sort of half way house.
