Ok, I'm going to go through this sensibly and see what hes on about... What isn't ours? The code we write, the interface we use, the site we have - anything anyone creates is their copyright as its their intelectual property. As I said, we don't "copyright" the memory addresses and scm editing, we do it. Its the final product that is copyright. As I'm not quite sure what you're talking about here, i'll just say, yes, anything we create is copyrighted because its our intelectual property. I don't think anyone on the team is at all "big headed" about what they've helped create. We create it, we release it, I don't think anyone has ever said "wow, we're amazing!" about it, we let our fans do that! I think that we're very fair about other multiplayer mods (I assume thats what you're talking about). We've even got a stickied topic on the other mods forum for GTAT (another multiplayer mod), as well as that whole forum itself dedicted to such things. We only don't allow map mods because it destroys the game experience for other users. If we allowed everyone to easily run random maps, one person would see themself on a road, while to other people he might be underwater, or in mid air. Until we release improved cores, we can't provide the validation to ensure all users have the same vital files to ensure that everyone gets a good game experience. Whooo! Random statistic time. Theres no way you can back this up. Out of interest 0.1% of the worlds population is about 6.4 million people. If we had an audience of that size, I think we would be very happy (and we'd have a lot more stupid mods like this to deal with). Um... What? Sounds like a rant so far, I haven't quite worked out why yet. No Oh, so wait - Counter-Strike the most popular online game ever isn't copyrighted cause it uses half-life? GTA3/VC isn't copyrighted cause it uses another company's game engine? Well obviously it wouldn't exist. Duh. Its a mod for GTA3/VC, its like saying you're games crap because it relies on windows to work! Its all about layers, MTA being a layer ontop of GTA3/VC, GTA3/VC being a layer on top of the engine, the engine being a layer ontop of windows/directx. I know! What? I don't remember MTA ever threatening legal action. Why should it be open source. Nothing should be open source unless the developers want it to. Imagine us making this open source, we'd have people like you coming along, doing changing "MTA" to "Xeroer's l33t GTA Mod" and voila everyone has their own mod, most wouldn't work with each other and the whole thing would end in tears. Yeah! If you really thing R* have their head in the sand enough that they don't notice thats theres 300+ people playing GTA3/VC online at any one time and have been for the last year, you must be mad. We have spoken to R* and they have supported us to a certain extent. Whoever you emailed would have been in "customer relations" or somthing, probably based in another country. You can't expect customer relations to know anything about what R*'s programmers know. Memory hacking is not in any way illegal. R* may not like it (they haven't suggested anything of the sort) but all it is is changing the memory on your computer. That can't be in anyway covered by an EULA. Editing files that come with the game is also not covered by the EULA. The scm has been edited by many other people before. You talk about map mods and say we should support them, yet you critisize us for editing files. As to R* not wanting people to "even touch GTA3 or VC", I can't imagine thats good for sales if the end users can't touch the game. No we didn't, and why would we? Another random statistic! By the way Counter-strike has about 100,000 players (at any one time), thats about 0.001% of the world population - we must be beating CS! Good, cause its not true. Because we make MTA, we have the right to do what we want. We could make all cars pink if we wanted, we could make everyones health decrease when they walked. We can do whatever we want - we might loose users, but thats our decision. Wait... One minute ago you were saying how bad we were for editing R*'s stuff, how they didn't like it, next your saying that you condone the hacking of our code.... Ah, you realise you're stating the obvious! Good, the first step to sanity (only a few million more to go!) The almighty makers of MTA? We are. Actually, you'll find MTA was the first mod (read the about/history sections on the main site.I hope you realise you've actually written a load of crap. It'd be nice if you could point out why you've written this at some point, cause I can't see any reason, as you've gone against almost every single point you've stated. You're a confused man. eAi Btw, getting off aol will move you up that staircase to sanity quite a lot, also your posts on the edgeforums shows you up even more...

It'd be hard to manage, as you'd have to decide which client would do the hit detection. eAi

First, read the manual, secondly, telling us how you tried to do it would be a good start. eAi

GTA In Game Multiplayer Menu - By Rockstar
eAi replied to Minister2100's topic in General GTA3:MTA 0.4 Discussion
Yes, theres 5 or 6 unlinked menus in GTA3 (none in vc) that give you options such as choosing game type, server IP, setting up a local server and character colour etc, although its interesting to see what R* intended, they aren't really in a usable state, as they've been partially hacked out (or not completed). If I get a moment I might screenshot them. eAi -

As RISO says, we've been quite preoccupied with the new core (I've been spending about 12 hours a day on it for the past few days), the plus side of this is that you know the new core is seriously going to... um... blow your socks off..., the down side is that 0.4 its taking longer than planned As always, patience is everything, we work on MTA as much as we can, so one way or another we're making MTA a better game for everyone! eAi

Oh, so shall we stop developing now? We wouldn't want any more bugs! eAi
-
At last! In the future can we keep these "how can i start a a server" threads to a minimum some how? Locked eAi
-
In future versions (with the new core) we'll probably put more emphasis on languages, until then, I imagine you'll have to cope with it as it is (perhaps we'll allow some more letters). eAi

Is it just me or are there more and more n00bs coming to this forum and posting stupid questions in broken/google translated english? Someone post interesting things before I die of boredom. eAi

Because for some people 1.0 works better than 1.1. Anyway, as I said its really not a problem, just a matter of adding like x bytes to a load of values, and voila. eAi

I think what he meant is that the rusian alphabet (characters) aren't supported. This could be for a number of reasons, either we don't support unicode (does rusian require it?), directx doesn't support russian characters, the font used doesn't have rusian characters, or they're disabled by the same code that stops you typing weird characters. eAi

Go buy the game. Most people seem to use the 1.0 version of vice city, and theres no reason to upgrade to 1.1 unless you've got gfx problems. The ammount of effort to get code working for both (in vc anyway) is minimal. eAi

Custom maps may be possible in the future, currently we advise you not to try to as you'll ruin the game experience for others. eAi

I think the problem people have with this in MTA particularily is because MTA is using more processor, so that VC doesn't have the processor time to load the textures. You may find that pressing escape, and waiting a second on the pause screen before going back in forces the textures to load, or it might just be worth upgrading your computer. I know with some of the more memory/processor intensive tools I use, they can seriously prevent the game from loading textures propperly, though closing them can fix it instantly. In conclusion, theres nothing you can really do about it, appart from close MTA (possibly ). eAi

WinME was the most useless Windows version ever. I had blue screens so often I had to change the colour with a reg hack thingy to green before I went mad. If it works on ME i'll be very supprised as its just win98 SE + better(??!) media support and a stupid new colour scheme. eAi

Improvement suggestions to MTA (from a programmer)
eAi replied to agent_dark64's topic in Suggestions
And what would storing it server side help? We can't work out if it should change or anything. eAi -
Maybe this should be in the Gangs forum? Moved eAi

I haven't tried, but I'm pretty sure it won't, as it uses the same core as vc 0.3. The new core on the other hand, quite possibly will. eAi

How would you plan on running this uber ban list? eAi

Improvement suggestions to MTA (from a programmer)

How else did u expect it to work? eAi -
To be honest, the team is very busy as it is, and the time spent putting together a video could be spent on more important things (e.g. finishing 0.4 or the new core), so in the end its better to wait. That said, if we have a test just before the release I might knock together a video (I've got a some music in mind ). eAi

Should work? Just run the program when you download it. If thats what you do, do you get two message boxes, or just one? eAi
