Nice guide, wish I woulda bothered tryin to find it about two years ago since dm development started Too bad you can't really perfect the controlling though, since two functions can't be put onto 1 key using keyboard assignment, rather than linking to JOY triggers.

Any script that does fadeCamera ( true ) you can even start runcode and type "crun fadeCamera ( true )" and it should go away and you'll see sky. Although, you'll need a script that spawns you in some manner.

Dropping into fan blades while spawning in vc.. fun memories hi btw

My older pc (2002 2.4ghz P4, 1gb ram, n6600) can run decent providing I cut back to 800x600x32 and cut the draw distance a little. Also note window mode isn't intended for playing (only scripting), it will cause more tension on your framerate. It does go to about 20fps on FMJ 0.5 or simad server, probably due to all the cars. This should be improved in DP3.

It is an issue I suppose that the help manager can't display much help on the larger scripts all in one sitting with F9 tab.
-
Well its a combination of issues but usually I see 100-300 ppl playing. Most of the players are in Europe atm though so sometimes the player counts drop dramatically on weekdays at night (sa-mp also experiences this somewhat, I saw the player count go from 4000 to 1000 as written on their website). DP3 should show some improvements on frame rates, slide/shoot sync, etc. I think people are still around, just waiting for the fixes. Hell, theres 500+ registrations a day on the community center ( see stats https://community.multitheftauto.com/ ). MTA should really shine once some nice scripts are developed. I haven't seen anything too major yet.

Help can always be found on #mta.scripting at irc.multitheftauto.com (or irc.gtanet.com ) Looks nice btw

This is happening in the latest dp3 build so I think you are right its a bug, reporting. Thanks. I'll let you know whats up when I get some feedback.

I am unstickying and locking all the tutorial threads because they are OUTDATED and it confuses people who are trying to learn (which ironically was the purpose of them). There have been changes in the scripting system that will make them not work. This topic so to keep a direct link to all the tutorials and to let you know whats up with them. If you fix these scripts, please upload them as resources to the community center. Please include script commenting or else its not a tutorial! However, fixing these is important still. Even if you only fixed the script and didn't comment the script, post so I can link to the functional, updated version. Then at least someone else can try and complete the job. This color means the script has not been updated at all and is not available at the resource center This color means the script has been updated and is on the resource center, but the script is not commented to explain it. Therefore, it is not a tutorial you can learn from. This color means the script has been updated and is on the resource center, it is functional and fully commented so you can learn from it as a tutorial. Scripting Tutorial 1 - User selectable warp points Scripting Tutorial 2 - MTA Snow Scripting Tutorial 3 - Crazy Clothes Scripting Tutorial 4 - Hay Scripting Tutorial 5 - Text displays Scripting Tutorial 6 - King of the Hill Gamemode Scripting Tutorial 7 - Bomb Shop Scripting Tutorial 8 - Ion Cannon and Nuke (from C&C '95) https://community.multitheftauto.com/index.php?p=resources&s=details&id=71 Note: Scripting Tutorial 9 - Using SAM sites was never released

hmm goin on 5 years wasting my life on this Soooo many hours soooo many things to choose from... I'd say my favorite moment was when Vice City Police went undefeated in the only official MTA tournament, which took place in MTA:VC as this was during its early development. It was a huge thing at the time when there were big gang rivalries and lots of trash talk going on to say we were the undisputed champs. Its kinda hard to get that cooperation and have an honor code of not cheating anymore, since MTA has grown so much beyond a small community. I miss that feeling of getting the shivers when I would be one of the last or the only person alive on my team and it was up to me to score the big W.

This happened with gta3 and vice city releases as well. Some anti virus programs just mistake it for something bad. To be safe only download from links coming from MTA's download area on this site.

Well theres been plenty of general changes. For scripting this will give you a ballpark: http://development.mtasa.com/index.php? ... ges_in_DP3 I've tried to get everyone to place emphasis on the sliding/car jacking/no shooting problem as the #1 issue. We have made some good progress reproducing and fixing sliding and car jacking. Shooting has proved more difficult to reproduce so we're not quite sure if theres improvements on that yet. As Jax said we had a long slow period due to a server loss but lately we've been testing lots of new builds, several a day even. Progress is definitely being made. Don't worry, we're testing and they are still developing. MTA hasn't jumped ship.

It appears you are right, I'll raise the issue. Thanks.

How about a woman or and old person trying to protect herself when a strong, young male burglar breaks into the home? You both got knifes or bats then its not an even playing field. I think not having guns promotes crime by making criminals more ballsy about committing crimes without worrying about the possible consequence of getting shot to death from a civilian. Mind you a bat with nails in it can be just as lethal.

Its an MTA bug that ended up being worse with post-release scripts. Its high on the todo list.
-
Are you sure you have helpmanager on your server? It should be running by default so you don't have to include it. You should obviously try changing the help text to a sentence or something and see if it shows up. I'm not home right now but I think you're right there is a limit with the generic help tab.

Luckily you can protect your modes with cheat detection scripting. For example, I added in falloutV2 a check that kills any player that pulls out a weapon. Unfortunately, people probably don't know there is some protection in it now and have gotten a bad first impression. I don't believe hay has a built in weapons check / zHeight fluctuation check + max height check yet, maybe I should put that on the todo list.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't understand how you can type huge rants about how SA-MP is 'in' and MTA is "out", and yet you can blame me for starting a MTA vs. SA-MP discussion. You even admitted that your opinion is severely biased towards supporting SA-MP, as you are part of SA-MP development. I make one post with some critique to your SA-MP rants and suddenly I'm the bad guy. If you can't accept even the slightest criticism of SA-MP then maybe you shouldn't be here discussing it (speaking of which, that appears to be the only reason you are here besides a few 2005 posts, some of which blatantly slandered MTA 0.5). I don't think any of us here agree with your opinion that everyone needs to rush over to SA-MP and forget about MTA because SA-MP has been released longer and thus, has a larger player count at the moment. We are all well aware of the existence of SA-MP and that it has a large player count because it released years ago, but that does not mean it is the death of MTA. As you said, MTA is not as great as the videos made it appear. Some problems were introduced that need to be fixed, but it is a development preview and that is to be expected. Really, its just a "release in progress" just like SA-MP was, except theres much more involved because of extensive functionality. Theres plenty of time for development both on scripts and fixing the flaws. I don't see any figures about millions of SA-MP downloads, but even if so, it has been out for years. MTA has been out for two months. i see no evidence that points to SA-MP being a cancer to MTA. Time will tell what happens. Anyhow, I'm ending this ranting about SA-MP with this post. The purpose of this topic was not to make long rants about how 'SA-MP has single-handedly defeated MTA by releasing earlier and there is no hope for MTA'. Theres quite a nice outline of issues on the first few pages (which includes SA-MP's existence as a factor but not the sole reason). However, apparently that is your position and if so then you need to go to the SA-MP forums rather than advertise here about why everyone should consider MTA as dead and go play SA-MP because it is "too late". There'll be no more trolling here.

Its certainly a gross understatement to write off MTA as a "slightly better mod" compared to SA-MP. It provides so much more functionality. I can't see SA-MP making a game like stealth or interstate 69. Even yet, those are just stepping stones of what could be. I think your only really valid point, as I mentioned on page two, is that SA-MP came a lot earlier and it has a freeroam/rpg element to it that everyone is used to. You assume to much if you think that nobody on QA team played SA-MP. If you want my honest opinion I tried several servers and got bored after 5 to 10 minutes. Like jfk and dragon I am a more competitive person. I like fighting in areas where it doesn't take 10 minutes to find the next fight (wherein its probably some guy who's gonna flee who doesn't like fighting). I found the combat in SA-MP pretty unsynced when around a group of players and then I would just get a crash randomly every now and then. Now I'm not preaching that MTA is flawless but I saw nothing special that SA-MP was providing. You can't say things like anti-cheat are not a problem simply because SA-MP did not have it. It was a monopoly at the time, there was no choice for mp. There was no alternative. GTA:Rumble barely worked but it attracted people. SA-MP got firstmover advantage and that is huge. That truly was an MTA mistake. The cost of extensive control over the game was bugs constantly introduced and a feeling that everything had to be picture perfect. Its not even MTASA:DM anymore. It should be called MTASA:SDK. As far as the 0S comparison goes, an OS is quite harsh. I am easily switched over to another software, say IE to Firefox, providing it convinces me its good enough. I think MTA has the ability to accomplish that. Anyways, I think everything is being oversimplified as far as only the gamemodes being the problem. As I mentioned before we know the lack of certain features like parachutes and controller support (which SA-MP has, again forcing it to be standard), bugs, no anti cheat, etc. are causing issues. 500 MTA vs. 4000 SA-MP isn't that bad for the time being. Its only been two months and theres still lots of time before GTAIV pc. Currently there are 52,257 registered accounts for MTA. That alone proves that MTA is not "out" of the picture yet. This is a two pronged attack here, hopefully the community can learn some good scripting and come out with some nice gamemodes (with experienced QA scripter help). Meanwhile, we'll do our best to patch up the problems (fyi controller support is planned and parachutes are being worked on).

I don't think you guys answered him, he wanted to know how it worked. DxDrawLine is 2d on the screen and DxDrawLine3D is in the 3d environment. I don't know the technical stuff about how the 3D ones are made but i listened in on some conversations and they are more taxing on your system i guess, so they are certainly different than 2D lines. The lines shown in these pics all spin connected and line colors change rapidly.. if you can imagine that http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb21 ... nephun.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb21 ... ephun2.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb21 ... ephun3.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb21 ... ephun4.jpg
