Interesting Info that may help in Development.
Gamesnert replied to DazzaJay's topic in General discussion
Eh... It definitely works for me... In the nightlies and in DP2... They don't lose lock, that's the only thing I also found out. But haven't noticed anything about the rest... =/ -
IRC channel, something like a chat actually. You'll need an IRC client. (google for one, or if you have Firefox, get the ChatZilla add-on) And then you can type this in your browser: irc://irc.multitheftauto.com/mta.scripting And then you'll get faster support. (unless everyone is AFK )

Ok let me see: - Line 9: Source doesn't exist here, only in the case of an event. (or well, it does exist, but it's not really usable) Solution: Replace with thePlayer - Line 14: Advice: Don't use source in the function parameters. Might help fixing the message in line 20. - Line 32: onColShapeHit is triggered whenever an element comes into the colshape, not only when a player enters. This means it's triggered whenever a vehicle drives over, and when a player enters the shape. Don't know if it solves anything here though. The problem in which it pops the creator's tires, are you sure it happens whenever someone else drives over? And not when the creator drives over it himself?

Sounds aren't included yet. They are in nightly r187 for as far as I know. (but the community>development page is stuck at r182 for over 3 days now... =/)

3. Make sure you have done "start KIHC". (or whatever you have called it) 9. I don't think he wants to upload it. 11. I didn't say I was going to make it. I just told what he said in a simpler way.
-
3. KIHC DOES work, why doesn't it? =/ 8. Alternate map editor should help. 9. I doubt he wants to do that, otherwise he wouldn't say that it might take some thinking. 11. There isn't 1 RPG resource, a RPG resource is more than 1 resource which work together to make something realistic. Any other questions?

spawnPlayer ( thePlayer, x, y, z, 90, randInt (280, 284), 0, 0, 0, Police ) Look closely at the first argument, it should be source, not thePlayer. (thePlayer isn't defined anywhere)
-
Nope, there isn't. Until someone translates it to Dutch. I'll see if I can do it, but I probably have other things on my mind. =/

Downloading the resources evrytime again when you join a server. In the case of many files you can delete them to save some space? In case your hard drive is full? It might be handy to have a function in the resource meta.xml to delete all client-side scripts after use, so nobody can steal your stuff. But deleting all the client resources? No idea what that could help... Einstein, could you explain what you are suggesting it for? What it's use would be?

http://development.mtasa.com/index.php?title=DxDrawText Use this one instead of the label. (I don't know for sure if it works in DP2.x) The scale parameter is what you might want to improve.

Try to avoid assigning source to anything by yourself. In this case it is general advice AND fix to the problem. Just replace: function onLogIn( source ) with: function onLogIn()

Yesh, but i can't script....... http://development.mtasa.com/index.php? ... troduction <-- Scripting Introduction I guess you were already told about 3 times to go over here, but it's just somewhat the only tutorial you can get. It's hard to understand in the beginning, but keep on trying. Just read the tutorial carefully, later on browse the wiki to find some examples and then read and try to understand. That should get you going.
-
I don't know if either of you can script? But if either of you can: http://development.mtasa.com/index.php?title=MoveObject Otherwise you'd have to go to the scripting tutorial: http://development.mtasa.com/index.php? ... troduction Good luck, have fun.
-
Quoted for absolute truth. The thing I enjoy the most about MTA is the scripting and testing the result. On the other hand, in the beginning the scripting is very hard to understand. (even if you've had a little experience with scripting before) There should be a better tutorial for the scripting itself, but also really important: A tutorial on how to use the wiki. Since people don't seem to get how important the wiki is. So thehookerkiller01, you basically have 3 choises: 1. You learn how to script, and try to make them yourself. If there are any parts you can't seem to get to work, the people on this forum and scripting IRC will be glad to help. (most recommended option) 2. You wait until you weigh 5 grams. (not really recommended ) 3. You just leave it and do nothing. (REALLY not recommended)

IV doesn't seem as good for MP as SA. SA seems... Well... It just has a nicer multiplayer feeling. Besides, MTA and SA-MP exist out of RP servers for the biggest part, and I don't think RPing would be something to do on IV... The only real pros IV has, is the more realistic physics and the build-in cell. That's all. =/

Yesh, but i already had found that countdown script, but that is if you type /countdown there will be show: 3 2 1 GO GO GO!! I want a countdown with a name before it. Then you'll need to add that. Here's a tutorial on how to script: http://development.mtasa.com/index.php? ... troduction And then just try to edit the script.
-
https://community.multitheftauto.com/index.php?p= ... ils&id=232 <-- Countdown script (haven't tried it though) For the rest, a simple advice: Learn scripting. As robhol stated, there are VERY few people to script for free. The only way to really do that, is to do it yourself. (or have a small group of friends with who you script.)

For as far as I know, the handling functions are bugged. If you would walk backwards on a bike, you'd go about 80 KM/H backwards... Although this is a good idea, it's still not possible until someone fixes quite some bugs. =/

1. You don't appear to know how gamemodes work. Try this for instance: "gamemode cdm cdm_ls" (gamemode [gamemode] ([map]) ) 2. Broph does work because this doesn't require a map. 3. Did you actually read THIS? Hope it helps, Gamesnert.

MTA version? (I guess DP 2.3?) Server? Any extra information?
-
Let's still keep it on MTA:SA. MTA IV probably won't be so successful after all I think. (IF it even comes out )
-
What? No... Something like Command & Conquer or Age of Empires or whatever. Spending 20 years IRL in an RP prison would be stupid...

You might have heard from it, BFSA. And well, it's not completely BF2, but a bit in the style of it. It isn't THAT far in development (although it has been a few months ago since I started this project... I'm REALLY slow in scripting... >.<) but when there are enough people, you'll enjoy it. Currently I'm developing it on the Nightly builds, but still have an old DP2 version. I might start the DP2 server tomorrow or something, in the week after, I'm on a holliday. (again ) Anyway this is not about me and my gamemode. So you may also make your own if you want, I have no problems with it. But don't copy too much from me, and preferably only do it if there's no other gamemode for you to make. Otherwise you may try San Andreas - Real Time Strategy! Yay! Would be pretty cool, as long as it's balanced.

Tried scripting peds once... Holy cow that's hard... Hmmm... How about... Tower defence? (saw it on my desktop ) Anyway, maybe something like a Rhino deathmatch? Would be kind of cool to see, especially with that rhino damage script somewhere on this forum. Works dang well!
