or you could just temporarily replace the map files gta3 reads. that way you would not have to "sink" the city, just delete (or move to different directorty) the LC files and replace them with custom ones.

I was playing MTA with a friend, and we were playing, but his gta3 crashed and mine did not. the MTA was still connected. he then got on AIM and we talked about it, but my GTA3 sill running. i alt-tabbed back into GTA3 and all the msgs he was sending over AIM, were comming through and appearing in game. it was kewl. if anyone here knows how to demask keys in vb, i could write a better alternative to the current chat. until .03 comes out

make sure that the other player is in his cars as well, and close internet reated programs, like aim. also make sure the other person in in gta3, not alt tabbed somewhere else

Gang Wars is a sweet mod. too lazy to post any links, but what it is, is a mod that lets you say where each gang is, and who they hate, so you could say the the yardies are in china town and they are fighting triads. as mentioned in the MOD Suggestions forum, Gang Wars would make a good MP MOD, cept with real ppl, not AI

i got tired to trying the servers, so i just start servers and let ppl conncet to me. its just that easy. you cant just sit and wait for someone to play with you. however if we all did this, then, well, you should see that it wouldnt be good -

first: i going to try to change it. i think i unsucessfully tried it in the old forums second: is it possible to change the player model (not the skin) becuase then some one could make a sweet looking VIP. like a monster or something. or perhaps: the VIP has to carry a brief case, therefore he cant hold a weapon. -

-one other thing: this mod was programmed in vb -and for internet play, it uses winsock (perhaps .03 wont) -i know this because the runtime errors when the program crashes are the same ones i frequently get when programming with winsock -once you have the data-transfer part down, programming w/ winsock is increadably easy. -on a preivoius thread (i think perhaps the old forums) i said that i hated winsock, i do for the following reasons: getting the data-transfer part working correctly is annoying. winsock is not good at cramming: i had a for-loop sending data through an array of ws's and it only sent the last element and it does not like firewalls. it took me ages to realize that having the "setup.exe" for my firewall was causeing it to die when i tried todo "winsock1.listen" but other wise, once all is figured out, it works fine, and i think that the MTA Team can definately handle it. -

Monkeymagic2: we've already discused traffic syncing multiple times: https://forum.multitheftauto.com/viewtopic.php?t=13&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 is perhaps the best debate, and my opinoin is in there, second page. im pretty sure the random seed is an original idea, i see how it could work, when i program in vb, if i forget the "Randomize" statement, all the ranom numbers will be the same predictable pattern to stat^: he is not talking about syncing all the cars by sending huge amounts of data back and forth, he is saying just to sync the random seed. for all non programmers: when you use random in code, its a list of numbers, un changing. the random function has a thing called a seed. its sort of like the base numbers in a Fibanachi sequence. so he is saying to sync the seed, so all the numbers the gta3 generates will be the same, thus anything left to ai (randomness) will be the same simply because the seed is the same. btw: the reason this wont work: all the numbers generated will be the same for everyone, but for different reasons. for example: if im in a place where the options for traffic is: foward and right, but the sycned seed says left, that is not a valid option therefore they are now unsynced. second: lets say one player has one car on screen. the amount of random numbers his gta3 will use would be less than another player who is perhaps in the tunnel, where there are lots of cars, therefore a greater need for random numbers. all though you both will have the same pattern, one will be used quicker than the other, meaning that the random events will be different unless you stay on the same area as the other person the entire game... no fun (also .03 will have many people) -

Im glad the progress counter has been added, but on the other hand, its made me realize how lathargic the mta team is i mean either the never update it, or never work on mta, or they work on it but dont make progress ne way. before it was there id would come home every day and imeadiatly check to see if the new version is uploaded, but now i can just see that no work has been done at all or maybe it just there fore suspense and really its almost done but probably not in reality im ok with it, i understand that people have jobs besides mod making, and homebrewing, im just saying that the counter is somewhat anticlimatic anyone agree?

ya. Flaming-h, your idea sounds pretty good. ya i actually think now, that limiting cars on the VIP guards is a bit much. the way i see it tho, is that its more of a stealth mission, than a "were your guards, lets fight, bam-bam-bam your here we win" game. the only problem like i said is camping. there are many routes from eightballs to some other place: i.e. hobo-tunnel, car crusher area, to the park (hepburn area) etc. but the bridges are a must. so maybe from one place to another on the same island. for example: airport to the Cartel house in Cedar Grove. that would probably work better. the perfect game, would be if the VIP and Guards transported him, without detection, although that would be tough. And being the VIP would be annoying i suppose. How about this: being VIP means you get weapons, but you cannot drive, and you start at a low health. You would have to go out of your way to get health/armor. this way more strategy would be brought in, and its not boring to be VIP lol, yes my subject is pretty boring. speaking of which, i still have not thot of a good title for this "game type idea" perhaps "Escort Service" or something -
-there are two teams. one of 8, and one of 22. -in the team of 8, one random player plays as eightball (use the model with the messed up hand) -this player cannot use wepons. -eightball starts at the eightball hideout on Portland -he has to get to the dam (unlimited time), with help of other 7 ppl -the other 7 team mates have infinte Sniper, Hand Gun, and Grenades. they also have a baseball bat. -once one of the 7 die, they do not respawn -the 22 people have to stop the safe transport of eight ball, they spawn\respawn in SSV -the chat is not public, the 8 can talk amongst themselves, or broadcast (talk to all). same with the 22 -the 8 cannot drive, the 22 can. -the point is to play a sort-of hide and seek. the team of eight wants to remain under cover, send out a scout and pretty much remain hidden. once someone is found, the rest of the 22 can be called over. so basically its a co-op strategy game to move eight ball to the dam. i think this would be really fun if you stuck to team work. plus there are lots of wats through. -the only problem that i see, is that the 22 would just camp at the bridge. any ideas to make this better or fix it?

ya, that would be pretty sweet. the only thing is, there has to be a way for the driver to lock it (which would be insanley hard) because in normal cars, when you ride in the back, you usually will fall off because its slippery, you cannot get a go grip. so if you just took the back off, then youd have to drive slowely so no one falls out. if the collision data is loaded in ram, then you could have two sets: one with back and one with out. that way, when the driver hits a key to lock it, everyones switches the coll data. that would hella sweet. you could also try to trap and lock your enemies is as POW's

Ya. I think, but im not sure, that the dodo like plane in VC (called "the skipper") can do that. what i want to see, is someone replace a car model with a heli model, and when it detects you enter that car (looks like a heli) that it gives you a pitch control and height control. that would be sick. finally heli's in gta3

Ya. i was on the beach and i was cutting a bunch of people, and there was a cop near by, but he did nothing for until i killed lots more. i think the blades count as running over people.
