Nope, I don't know. I don't see why so many people have trouble running the game. When I first started playing MTA (back in 0.3) I just went out and bought GTA Vice City, installed it, then installed MTA and I could play fine with no problems. Same happened for the next 2 versions. Then MTASA Race came out, I already had GTA San Andreas installed so I just installed MTASA and it worked fine again.

Do you have a firewall or antivirus program which may be blocking it? Once you get to the black screen, try hitting alt+tab and see if there's any warnings from your security software such as asking you if you'd like to allow or block the game.

Are you using a legitimate copy of GTA San Andreas or not? If you have downloaded the game, the patcher won't work on it because you have an ILLEGAL VERSION.

Uh, there are 2 types of cheaters. Those who cheat to win (health hackers etc who can't die) and then those who cheat to have fun (people who mod cars but don't health or weapon hack etc).

Valve released an SDK with their Source Dedicated Server and people have used that to create game modes and even whole new games, so won't MTASA be similar?

Terminator[NL], please don't comment on things you know nothing about. It's possible that traffic could be being blocked at his end, his ISP's end or even both. The error that you're getting means that the game can't connect to MTA's master server to retreive the server list. It's most likely being blocked by a firewall of some sort at your end. Either that or your DNS is broken, but I highly doubt that.

Bear in mind, that MTASA DM is going to be released with a supposed SDK, so theoretically you'll be able to create your own game modes, much like you can in SA-MP.

It doesn't say that registration is compulsory. You can skip it when installing. It's a well known fact that activation doesn't work, probably something wrong with the coding of the site. Speak to Harry, he will activate your account I'm sure.
