Ugh.

Ya know its funny I read this, after I just got done watching half of Troy (which was very interesting) on my PS2 and it went "Unable to read disc" on me, just like a few nights before with "Die Hard With A Vengence".

This is the 2nd PS2 I bought, the first one I eventually got nothing BUT DRE, I literally took it out in a field and demolished it with a baseball bat (yes it was worth it I dont care). I buy the brand new 39000 series, looks much more stable... here I am today, the motherfucking PS2 is screwed up again, with the first symptom: DRE (disc read error).

At this point I would like to proudly say: Fuck PS2 (and Playstation in general) up its stupid ass. Faulty worthless cheap POS.

You bought the wrong series. The best version is SCPH 50001 because of a more silent fan, and the DRE fixes. To tell you the truth ransom, i'm on my 3rd PS2, and sony made faulty PS2s so people would have to buy new ones or pay to fix them. Here is another great feature of the PS3 lol.

don't expect the ps3 to be as buggy as ps2 just yet, judging from the hardware specs njr posted at SA-MP's forums, it sounds promising. has xbox360 released any hardware specs?

my brother is on his 3rd ps2, he got the ps2 helpline, phoned them up first the dvd player was cained then on the new one multitap didnt work, they tell u put all the cables, controllers and the ps2 into the box it came in(only the ones that came with the computer itself not ones u brought after it), if not a plastic bag then a delivery bloke comes to your door with a new ps2 and u give him the old one to take back, first time was free, 2nd time was £30

Didn't exist. 39000 was the top back when mine broke. It did have a much more stable tray and stuff.

Well anyways, my brother fixed it and made me feel like shit cause hes just a party day and night guy, doesnt know much about consoles or computers. Well turns out you use a key, one of these:

to fix the DRE problems. Open up the top and open the CD tray by taking off the small screws on the covering. Inside theres a small circle white piece in the back. Stick the right size key in there and crank a few times, then just put the top on and put somethin light ontop to hold it down, and test whatever was getting DRE. Keep doing it until its right.

He figured out what happens is that the laser gets out of place. All you gotta do is crank that thing left or right to raise/lower the laser to the proper level.

Of course be warned that opening the PS2 voids the warranty however (but PS2 warranty sucks anyways).
