orappa
Both Gamesradar and Computer and Video Games have posted up stories with rumors that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the latest in the Rockstar Games freeform action game series, will feature some kind of two player multiplayer mode. At the moment, Rockstar would neither confirm or deny the rumor to both web sites. http://www.homelanfed.com/index.php?id=26728 They reckon it would only be a simple multiplayer mode such as PvP or 2-player co-op though. Scorp
wow thanks for digging up that info Jon so if it were to be possible to link PS2 then I might just buy it for my console also. But since the features are supposed to be alike on the pc then I can maybe play co-op with my bro when it comes out for the computer. In one of the interviews they said clearly said no till' both online & any MP feature, there's no telling though what Rockstar is hiding in their sleeve remember its only rumors. Link to comment
SM xenex
Yes as much as i would like to beleive this i think its a rumor and nothign else. Like you said Rockstar said themselfs them multiplayer woudnt be avaiable, the even said some reasons, not because they coudnt do it ( sony contract) but because they had no idea on how they can make gta multi in an enjoyable way. But lets say for one second if this rumor is true ( which i doubt) Then rockstar has found a way to make multiplayer for it and still stay in their contract making it split screen for ps2 and making it a full multiplayer game for pc, after all multiplayer is best on pc.So they simply wanted to do it for pc as they know what to do for pc ,and now they have found a way to do it for the ps2 . Scorp
why split screen? you can link 2 PS2 consoles together with a I-Link cable. And making full MP for the pc wouldn't that also be against the contract since you support more than 2 players? edit: I also forgot PS2 online, but that probably wouldn't work. Split screen is most likely since its not so hard to synch (I think) Link to comment
orappa
I doubt they will do this, but I thought it best to keep people notified, even if it is just speculation. I don't think that Rockstar would incorporate multiplayer in a half-hearted way, which is what 2-player would be. They've gone all the way with San Andreas, including all sorts of small details, so I would expect similar attention to detail in multiplayer. Link to comment
|-A-A-D-|
Im thinking about a split screen option like in gta2 for the ps one/or ps2 doesnt matter one of those old gta games had a split screen option i remember hopefully they put some kind of this in Link to comment
Scorp
neither GTA 1 or any of its add-ons had any split screen or any kind of MP for the playstation, I have all the GTA games for PS, expect GTA 3 & VC (which I have for PC) and I'm afraid I can't remember any split screen option Link to comment
Gtatari
ps2 broad band games dont have to be split screen, unless i missed it, no one said it was multiplayer w\ out the broadband adapter Link to comment
Slothman
with the new info come to light (read at http://planetgrandtheftauto.com ), it seems more likely that some missions are 2 player!!! W00t!!!!! even if its restricted to a few missions and freeplay, it'll rock! Link to comment
Scorp
Indeed. This feature would be welcomed with open arms If it would be in the PC version also, then there should be support for GTA:SA on LAN and since there's much expected from such a MP feature, it will take a lot of work to do it properly. Just seeing how much work has been put in MTA, having peds and all that stuff synched just for 2 players seems like quite a challenge. Rockstar still hasen't confirmed this for the PS 2, but lets just hope for the rumors to be true. Link to comment
Gtatari
after reading that article, I'm skeptical that its actually two player. From previous information, we can recal that you can higher gang members to work with you (get in your car, shoot, follow you, etc) the source that SPOnG is using might use co-op to describe co op missions with ai charectars, AND you may have the ability (in game) to swap between each charectar (so long as carl doesnt die, for example) RPG style. Thus you would have co op one player. No where from that article (which could be total bs) does it say the other player is human. In fact it says just the opposite, you meet her (ai) in a mission... with maybe the ability to switch and play with her INSTEAD of Carl Link to comment
orappa
I don't think the sudden switch over to co-op for a couple of missions would be suited for LAN play, whereas it would be quite easy on a PS2 as you just pick up the second controller. Link to comment
ULK!Nick
I hope these 2 player co-op missions are not a part of the major plot or i'll have to make some friends Link to comment
NosGoth
I don't care how they implement this as long as they DO implement this. Link to comment
TempEcho
we allways got MTA for MP , dont we? Link to comment
Mike
we allways got MTA for MP , dont we? Only if MTA can work with SA, the team are definately gonna try, but it may not work... Link to comment
TempEcho
well , GTA3 , VC , and I think SA will use the renderware engine , only SA is a little tweaked. so , it should be possible. Link to comment
OpiuM.
well, if you think about it, it really should be, and the unpredictable way the body moves (rag doll) should make a nice smooth death, unlike the shaky stubby deaths we see today, all in all, im almost certain itll happen, wait and see? We are indeed getting a somewhat inbuilt MP feature for GTA:SA! Link to comment
xerox
seriously doubt sa will have 2 HUMAN player elements to it even if it were just minigames its kinda pointless havin one person having to REACH that area and then the 2 of you play im just waiting for co op gta 4 (the one after sa) Link to comment
TempEcho
isnt GTA SA supposed to be the last in the GTA Series? Link to comment
