Guest
Will start off by saying this mod is great One thing niggles me though and that is the fps(frames per second) lock that seems to be in place. I was mucking around with 2 other friends on this mod, all of us with vastly different PCs. How ever we all noticed the hardlock of 25fps. This certainly isnt our PCs struggling to go above 25fps. Although my PC is sub-par (xp 2.8, 1gig ddr 400 and a 256mb 9600xt), I play normal SA with an average of 40-50fps. Also my friends PC which is far more powerful (3200 amd 64, 1.5gig ddr400 and a 6800GT) is always rock solid on 25fps while playing this mod. Is there some option I have managed to miss or is this lock in place for some technical reason, syncronisation or what ever. It is completly playable at 25fps, just kinda annoying since it is pretty noticable (FYI I used fraps to get the fps reading, Initially I did not have fraps running but I loaded it as I thought it looked oddly jerky and wanted to see what fps the mod was running at) Link to comment
Lággy
Thats normal, its to sync the speed with different pc and the speeds. Crap hey? Link to comment
Guest
Ahh, is there anyway to raise the cap? Just would be nice if when I create a passworded server for just a few people I know, we could enjoy higher framerates since we know all of the PCs/server can handle it. Link to comment
orappa
If the FPS lock wasn't in place, your friend with the faster PC could beat you easily because his vehicle would travel faster in relation to yours. Link to comment
Guest
Yeah I understand that (is why I mentioned syncronisation in the first post). Just my PC is the slowest out of the group of people I will regularly be playing with, and I can run SA at 40-50fps. So would be nice if there is a way to raise the cap. 25fps gives me a headache after a while Link to comment
erorr404
Yeah, I personally think it should be raised, or made customizable by the server. I have to say though that I'm getting used to it after playing all day. Link to comment
Kent747
its also a bandwith issue... we put some internal limits to prevent your pc from sending too much data to the server, but the framerate cap is also a second safeguard. since MTA embeds itself into GTA, it executes code every frame, often it will result in sending data. sync will be better in general if everyone is playing at a similar speed. slick
What about have a starting fps (ie 30-60) and after 10 seconds of gameplay or so it syncs the fps to the person with the lowest. sending this extra byte would make this alot more playable in general. Link to comment
Jani
What if someone's playing the game on say a 2ghz Celeron and only getting 11fps? Does that mean the whole server should have to suffer, even if they are running on say AMD64 3200's? Simple - no. Link to comment

My idea though would be to simply raise the fps limiter to 30 fps or so, or have custimizable by the server. Link to comment
eAi
I'll look into seeing if this is possible. Link to comment
Guest
Yeah if the server could choose the fps it would be great, especially for people creating private servers for a few people. But I have no iead how hard that would be to impliment, so if its verging on impossible, I'm sure I will learn to live with the 25fps Link to comment
finn_bryant
You would obviously have to make the fps f the players invisible to the everyone (including admin) so that people don't get chucked for have a poor comp as thats unfair. Link to comment

Guest
Finn, the people would lower fps wouldnt be chucked, they would just be at a disadvantage. The reason I asked in the first place wasnt so I could host a server and race faster than people with low end comps (my pc is pretty damn low end these days), it was so I could raise the quality of play for the passworded server I run for me and my friends. Chances are any 20 player open server would want a pretty low cap (like 25) since with 20 cars on the road eve.n mid spec pcs will struggle a bit. Link to comment

I think youve misunderstood me, if implemented as like so, What about have a starting fps (ie 30-60) and after 10 seconds of gameplay or so it syncs the fps to the person with the lowest players with powerful PCs would hate those with poor PCs for lowering the server FPS to 25 (or whatever the minimum is) and if they had admin rights they could even decide to ban them, which wouldn't be fair. Guest
Ah yeah I spose there could be cases like that. But then I guess servers would be like the old first person shooter ones a while back, when half the people played on 56k. There were special low ping only servers. Remeber its also unfair in a way to expect someone who payed an extra $1000 for thier computer to not be able to use it Link to comment
