  1. That'll be released in 2009. Great, does that mean I can expect to not see you around here anymore until 2009?
  2. I wonder why people have this idea that behind the scenes all of the developers just play and have loads of fun and purposely not release the mod just to feel special. The truth is, the devs are obviously working hard behind the scenes to get this thing done, whether or not people believe that is really irrelevant, the work will continue at the same pace, the same people will be working on the same code. The point I'm making is, you can't expect a thread to make the difference between them releasing today and not releasing today.

Interesting logic... So you think that if you piss off the MTA team enough, it will convince them to work harder to make you happy?

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration...

Come on guys. Waiting sucks of course, but based on the pics of the day, it seems that things have been really picking up.
  6. Exactly, would they show a video of windows error boxes, or freezes, or sync issues? Of course not. They wan't you to see what the game would be like when its released and these problems are fixed.
  7. I'm pretty sure they want to get it done as much as we want to play it. I really doubt they are not releasing just to anger the community, what would be the point in that? Also, in all this time, I really doubt they are programming every single day. You have to factor in things like boredom, frusteration, team conflicts and just general rl issues. I would love to be able to play mta right now, but if they gave in and released it right now, obviously it wouldn't be ready enough to be enjoyed, odds are we would try it out and then just spend more time waiting for a patch to fix the things that they didn't have a chance to alpha test.
  8. Thanks for the info. Yeah, never really had my hopes up, I was just curious.
  9. Im gonna have blast with the scripting, you guys are doing a great job.

    Lua

LUA is nice, has to be my favorite scripting language.
  11. I think the best form of bug testing and actually keeping your player base is by including the community in the process somehow, like most other hobby projects. Keeping alot of things a secret and isolating the project to only a few select people just makes alot of people not very motivated to even bother checking back here, especially as San andreas slowly becomes more and more outdated. Another thing to keep in mind is that GTA 4 is supposed to be out in 2007, this is just around the corner.
  12. I have no problem with waiting some more, although I am a bit worried about losing potential players and everyone's expectations being overly high because of the amount of time its taking.
  13. I dont think people appreciate how much time is required to code something like this.. Considering the high standards of the gaming community, it's not surprising that they aren't rushing to release a half-assed, windows crashing mod. Just be patient and be glad that they are going for quality. San andreas deserves nothing less.
  14. sp2 sucks? Yeah, I guess more security must suck.
  15. Caused by a crash, a crash that can usually be prevented by updating your drivers, which I suggested. Obviously you are happy to crash regularly and relieved simply not to reboot each time. Fine, just do as slick suggested and treat the sympton not the problem. I sometimes wonder why any of us bother tryign to help people like you when it's thrown back in our faces. By the way, next time you post something covered before, ignoring the forum rules in the process, don't expect a response as polite and advisory as mine was. You obviously aren't mature enough to take such a reply in. Just to let you know, sometimes that is the only option. How do you know he has to update his drivers for sure? In fact If he is using an ATI card that is within the 9200 series, he would have to "ROLLBACK" his driver to version 4.9, but that's besides the point. There is also good chance that the FPU has stopped responding, and before it has a chance to automatically reset the fpu, Windows restarts. So think what you want, but often you cant pinpoint the solution if windows is just going to restart everytime there is a failure. It's just too easy to say "UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS!" And too hard for the person who already updated their drivers to accept that answer. Although, that doesnt mean you should use outdated drivers, using updated drivers should be a given under most circumstances, especially "Sound drivers". which is what causes most game crashes. ps:One other thing to try is to google "eax.dll", and look for an earlier version than the one SA uses, and replace it.
  16. yeah, splitting the map is a bad idea, just let the server owner decide how the game will be played, just by how he spreads out the spawn points.
  17. Goto Start | Control Panel | System | -Click the Advanced tab -Click settings under "Startup and recovery" -Under system failure, unselect "Automatically restart"
  18. Hello, I notice that when I play it, it seems to change my display settings. Are you planning on changing that in future versions? It wouldnt be hard to add a custom coded options menu to your menu system. Im sure you have most of the memory addresses documented. Thanks Slick
  19. What about have a starting fps (ie 30-60) and after 10 seconds of gameplay or so it syncs the fps to the person with the lowest. sending this extra byte would make this alot more playable in general.
  20. Not necessarily, it could randomly choose spots, send the details to the client, and the client would check whether or not there would be collision or not, it would also decide the appropriate height based on that location. But either way, its just not worth it unfortunately.
  21. It's possible, just not realistic. The best way would be for the server to create the pedestrians, but even that would be unnecessarily hard on the server -bandwidth wise-. Personally I would rather a smooth playing experience rather than synced peds.
