every time i join a server through ASE and the client opens, or every time i just open the client itself, the nick erorr404 is loaded. i want to use __erorr404__, and i always type that in before i connect, but the client never memorizes it and it always uses my old name. how can i change this?

*sigh* its not just about the dodo ... not even close. but i agree, they should put most of their focus toward San Andreas when its released.

i like that idea too not only can they be used as taunts, but they can also be used on a tactical level with certain game modes (think Battlefield 1942)

pretty entertaining video, the stunts could have been a lot better though. also, the game was running really slow during many of those stunts, i suggest you speed them up in the editor next time.

dont get me wrong guys, i am addicted to the current MTA, but all i am saying is that those are 2 major reasons other people turn away from the game. the crashes are much more frequent than in any large, polished game (obviously - this is just a beta), no matter what server you go to. even the most stable servers, when filled up with enough people, can crash every 5-10 minutes, and people just arent used to that. they are used to games that never crash at all. "no point in gameplay".. maybe i should have worded that differently. i dont mean "there is no point in playing the game," i mean there is no objective to reach - no rules to follow, no game modes, just a big free for all. sure its fun to have a totally open ended game, but sometimes it can get tedious and boring. i mean, after all, all you do is shoot people for the sake of getting more points, not much more. it would be funner with different game modes, even simple ones. this is the reason they're making BLUE totally moddable. regarding the MTA vs single player GTA analogy, i dont think its accurate. in single player, you have a fully linear storyline to follow, that is the main part of the game. obviously, there is no such thing in MTA. -

imo, by far the two big letdowns of the current MTA are the constant crashes and no point in gameplay. -

i was practicing dodo tricks in the GTA3 Wojjie server and a guy named Avatar discovered some words written on the mini-map at the north border of the game map. i flew over there and took some screenshots. we flew around the other borders looking for words, but this is the only place i could find them. heres a pic of all of them: does anyone have any idea what they mean or why they're there?

yeah, i think next time we should make it private and put a password on the server, so that its MTA forum members only. there were a couple of nubs that werent participating, and one of them ran me over. lets hope version 0.4.5 is more stable.

that is so cool, great editing, and best of all, good storyline! i love the atmosphere of it, it has a Max Payne 'detective' feel to it. very well thought out and great writing. why not post the pics directly into the forum though? it would be much easier to view, because this way, you have to download the zip, and open them up one by one in the right order.

here is how it went for me: i am the third one in the server, everything is fine, then lots of people join, and there are A LOT of crashes for everyone. i crash every 3 minutes, but when its my turn to fly everything is fine and i get a couple of kills then get shot down, and the game crashes when my plane is on fire. then i go back in and shoot for a few minutes and end up making hella money, so i go get a flamethrower, AK, uzi, and come back to the mafia house. when i am running up there the game crashes and i lose everything. then it crashes every 3 minutes from then on, and its my turn to fly again. i take off and make a couple of passes, then the game crashes while im flying. then it works for a while after i restart my computer, and finally its my turn again after it goes through the whole list of people. this time some nubs run me over when i am running to the dodo, and i end up falling through a glitch. i die in it and spawn, and make my way to the dodo again, where lots of homos keep shooting it while its on the ground, so that it only has 68 health. so i decide blow it up to renew it, but by the time it blows up, the script says that my time is up. so then i walk over to the edge of the cliff, and jump into the water, and leave the server. that is my experince today. next time, please kick the noobs and get restart the server before we play to make it more stable.

i tried it, it just doesnt look right either. i think i will use __erorr404__ btw, strangely i got auto-banned from GTA3 PARTYSERVER, the nick erorr404 always worked on it before, but i had the client open and connected to that server today, and it just banned me, even though i was already on for a while and played it already - strange . no worries though, i have a dynamic IP so its no problem. anyways.. ya i hope Aeron allows 8 lower-case char nicks in the next release.

thanks but my IP is dynamic and my name will be different, so i have no problem joining. plus i dont know what my IP was when i got banned anyway hmm, looks too different

yes but the amount of map space that is "open" in the game would not cause anyones PC to slow down if its too large, or speed up if its small, since only the immidiate surrounding area of the map around the player is rendered (at least thats how i understand it). btw, if what i just said is true, whats the problem with having all 3 maps open at the same time in GTA3? i wonder how they will do it... put a barrier or just have the unused areas not render at all.

Yes, we could add this option, I'll put it in now. There are issues with zooming out the map the other way (i.e. seeing a larger area), as the game only loads the map on demand (in pieces).great. will it be up to the host which section it is that is open or does the mod that is used control it? Lag isn't affected by the ammount of map loaded, or not in any significant way. I supose it'd be possible for a mod to change the gta_vc.dat so that only certain sections are loaded. We will probably allow the world limits to be changed on-the-fly which should provide some interesting game modes. oh, i always thought that the map had a huge effect on bandwith, but i guess i was wrong (after all, the server doesnt care whether it updates the positions of players on opposite sides of the map, or the positions of players concentrated in a smaller area). the "world limits changing on-the-fly" would be an awesome feature . it can make for some VERY dynamic game modes (ie, one section of the map is opened during the game due to event A, another is closed due to event B).

Will MTA:Blue also be applied for GTA SA when it comes out?

although i doubt online play will be implemented into SA for the PC, i dont think that Rockstar isn't interested in putting online multiplayer into their future games (including the GTA series) just because they dont have a "history" of doing it. -
an issue about pausing that someone forgot to mention is that currently, its impossible to tell if someone is paused or not without shooting them. during a fight, you might waste bullets and valuable time while shooting someone who is paused, or you may travel accross the whole map, chasing after a blip you see on radar of someone who is paused. the blip everyones radar should change/disappear to indicate a paused player.

anyone care to elaborate on how this game mode would work? it sounds pretty cool.. lurking around in the fog, no radar, but what will the gameplay be like? also, i think the best solution for a 'radar' would be some sort of meter that changes as you get closer to someone. it would be awesome if someone could turn this into Hitman online (only i dont see how silent, stealthy kills would be possible). question for the devs; if it is possible to reduce the area of the map to a small district (the size of several blocks), would it be possible to totally block off the rest of the map and stop it from rendering/loading in order to greatly reduce lag and increase smoothness? this would be useful not only for this game mode, but others, perhaps such as turfwars where all of the action takes place in one concentrated area of the map.

actually, everyone i know that plays CS uses a mic, so id say it gives you the most contact out of any online PC game, overall. i think it has a chat function too, allowing you to talk to everyone on the server, as do most games. so that kinda invalidates your point but yeah, its great that MTA has chat . -
nice find. looks like the reason for this is that my name is 8 small char's, and the script is supposed to auto-ban all non-cap, 8 char names ... all i have to do now is get myself unbanned from those servers, and get a new name (i use this name for everything though ).
