Strange, seems like the keyboard code is not properly getting detected and therefore not picking up on the proper key presses. Does this problem happen on your Win98 installation or WinXP?

Not in MTA dummy MTA typically runs on a bone-stock VC. Map modifications will be researched for future releases. The only "stunt park" is the Dirtring.

You really need to learn to read the manual. Install MTA Install ASE Configure ASE Games to Support "Multi Theft Auto" Find a Server through ASE Double Click and Execute the MTA Client, or type the IP / Port manually Connect to the Server Select your Game Version Start the VC Game Start New Game in the VC Menu Play

If you honestly are still under the impression that Win98 offers vast improvement in Games, you are sadly mistaken. On old hardware that cannot proper work with Windows 2000 / XP, I could see it, but maybe if that is the case it is time to upgrade your hardware. All I know is that Windows 2000 / XP are able to run games at a speed in which I can play perfectly and it also allows me to properly develop the MTA project without rebooting every 5 minutes. Thank god to proper memory management!

No, you are not able to mod MTA as any changes done to your system will only be visible by your machine and often will mess up gameplay for other users.

This is surprising to hear. Many of the Server's that run MTA without lag are running system much less powerful than yours, and not in a LAN environment. Are you sure it is "lagging", or is it just it isn't as smooth as silk, which is actually a limitation of the MTA Client right now, not the Server.

Well, let's talk about your first part. You can still type in the game, but cannot see the data from the game because they are two different systems. We have seperated the chat and "game" systems so that they can work without each other, and work VERY well with each other. The chat system is obviously working for you, but the game system isn't. You are always the SWAT skin because the Client is not interacting properly with the game. This could be MANY problems, or just something simple, but it is happening to certain people. We do not have any solutions as of yet other then to try different game versions and attempt to use the FAQ.

SeB That shooting guy death kill (heh) bug sounds like you were playing against a person that was cheating. I cannot confirm that, but I that is my assumption.
-
We will post the details when we have confirmed them.

Try the FAQ. It sounds like it is crashing after the Start New Game button is pressed, which is resolved in the FAQ. It is typically due to an incompatible game version.

Actually, those Advanced Settings would hurt a LAN environment, so do not use them if you are only doing a LAN. Those settings are in place to limit the amount of traffic that the Server will produce. Essentially, these settings are just a safe-guard in case of a bigger problem. I do not know why you are lagging, but I highly recommend you comment out (add #) in front of ALL of the Advanced Settings, as the LAN environment does not need them.

First off, stop your bitching and read the forums. More than 80% of the "problems" can be solved by workarounds. Most importantly, who in their right mind uses Win98 (Win98SE) and calls themselves a computer user? Win98 is a bloated and overall "damaged" OS that was amazing at the time (100% agreement), but is horrible within today's standards. Windows XP / Windows 2000 is NOT used in the minority for MTA users, so I don't know why you think this is the case. The #1 reason we did not "develop" for Win98 is the simple fact of none of the developers being outdated (stupid?) enough to run such an old and unmanageable OS. Also, from a programming standpoint, Win98 has HORRIBLE Memory Management, which in a project like this is the key. MTA was, and in some cases still is, "crash happy". Therefore, Memory Management and the ability to "clean up" is an amazing feature. Win98 pretty much ignores this altogether, which would result in the constant need for reboots. We developed the mod on Windows 2000 and Windows XP with an extremely high success rate. Yes we should have tested Win98, but we obviously did not put enough thought into it being stupid enough to not handle extremely basic code. We will help you Win98 users (the minority) when we can. We did not intentially do this and we are sorry that this has been the outcome, but unfortunately you need to invest in an OS upgrade soon anyways, so why not now?

Open Vice City regularly and select the language in the options menu, or just manually copy the corresponding .gxt file from the TEXT dir to the MTA dir. This will allow MTA / the game to read the requested file, although certain text will be messed up as MTA is not made to work with it. Small limitation.
-
Snow, that would be a negative. Currently the Server defines identifies who you are by the IP that you are communicating with, therefore limiting the amount of players on a single server from a single ip value to 1.
-
You do not have to "pay to play" on ANY of the official MTA game servers. All we ask is for you to support our official game servers by navigating to the corresponding sites and supporting them in any way that you can. The more the public can support the Official Servers, the more we can get.
-
Never even thought of such a thing. I will have to think about it and see if we can get that into the Server. Good suggestion.
-
Thanks guys. Hopefully we can bring lots of great gaming experiences to the public!
-
Passenger code will be looked at in later releases. We need to stabilize the code more and make things that are bugging work better, rather than adding "bonus" features like this.
-
Wow ... someone who is a big bitcher of our decision to not release "bad" versions is now enjoying what we have released. Maybe one should learn to bite their tongue?
-
That may not be the only problem. Certain connections do not like how the MTA mod is communicating with the Server. If you have really bad routing, and therefore a bad ping, you will have problems using MTA (timeouts). Find a different Server, hopefully one with a better ping to yourself.
-
Team game modes will be incorporated sometime in the future (when things are more stable).
-
Thanks for you kind words!
-
MTA does work with most cd cracks (not intentially, just happens to), but not all. Unhandled Exceptions happen even on the retail games, just not all of the time.
-
Router settings could in fact mess things up. No promises.
