Does GTA:SA single player work OK? If not, try deleting gta_sa.set located in Documents -> GTA San Andreas User Files and launch single player again, reset the settings then try MTA again. If that doesn't work please try MTA:SA 1.3.2.

You can try to install MTA:SA on another computer and then copy the MTA:SA folder to a flash drive, then onto your laptop. I am not positive this will work as MTA is not designed to be a portable application, and it also writes to the registry which I believe requires administrator privileges.

OK, all the drivers installed successfully as far as I can tell. So MTA just quits randomly? Does it happen on any server, even map editor? Does it always happen after a certain amount of time, or is it completely random?

What version of the nVidia graphics driver are you running?

All drivers except the audio driver installed successfully, can you try reinstalling it? Does the grey screen still happen in MTA?
