Si|ent Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 (edited) The bandwidth problem has been identified, and rectified I'm glad to say, bringing approximately 70% decrease in bw usage, we are just investigating timescales for other fixes before deciding wether to patch for bandwidth alone or squeeze some others in too. Yay, so you guys are patching it That's always good to hear.
Oli Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 well i cant wait for that then, im starting to really have 17+ players lol
Brophy Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 im so glad u are working towards a patch straight away like with 0.3, nice one lads

That sounds like it will be close to the bandwidth usage of 0.3 which is a huge relief.
Guest Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 my brother is always saying now,"dont play mta it makes me lag on my games"which is getting annyoing so cant wait for the update
ImVision Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 yay! Cant wait for the update no more being booted off servers for having a ping of 900
erorr404 Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 sorry if this is a stupid question, but will decreasing bandwith usage reduce crashes? im guessing it will help pings. will it allow for more accurate aiming? less warping? or does it only benefit those with crappy connections? what exactly this this do? oh, and please squeeze in as many fixes as you can

ImVision Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 My connection is half mbit, so speed shoulndt really be an issue....
the-man Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 yeah great guys! making the new patch will make it less lag! then maybe theres a chance that .4 will beat 0.3 after all.
Nutz Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 My connection is half mbit, so speed shoulndt really be an issue.... As long as you don't try to play on a server with more than 22 players you should be ok. 500kb/sec is not enough to play on a 26 player 0.4 (currently). Another issue is all the extra CPU required to process the incoming traffic. Surely the client does something with all that data. I suspect this is the main reason people with slow computers are complaining about low fps. I think getting the downlink back to reasonable levels will solve most if not all of the "it's laggy" complaints.

Si|ent Posted July 24, 2004 Author Posted July 24, 2004 Its a fairly safe bet that it wont effect the colourbug.
orappa Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 Its a fairly safe bet that it wont effect the colourbug. Ah, whilst trying to justify my answer, I realised that I'd got the wrong end of the stick, as it were, when the problem was explained.
Brophy Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 well, is there a time for release for this patch, i.e like a week or less , thanks in advance
MAD_BOY Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 for patching it's the same, no asking for release dates
orappa Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 They took a while to patch the server (ages ago) from 0.3 to 0.3.1 (about 3 weeks, it must have been), but then again, Bump said that they know exactly what the problem is this time around. However, I'd expect that they'd fix some of the smaller, easier bugs at the same time too.
IyonUK Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I'd just be happy with the bandwidth decrease in the next release. (Hey that rhymes!) Currently, MTA 0.4 is unplayable for me. I'm running MTAMA at the same time, without Admin+, and my ping goes from 24 outgame to 1000+ ingame. This never happened on 0.3r2. I have 1Mbit connection.
Guest Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I am an admin on Iyon's server and am getting exactly the same ping as he is.. I for one would welcome a patch with the bandwidth problems sorted. I normally get around 15-20 ping and am still getting this - Outgame. But ingame, Unplayable. I run admin client - Without admin+ (yet; hopefully soon) and mta client - that is all. -Nick
notjesus Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I think its fixed anyway, (by looking at the first post)...
OpiuM. Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 i got a email from my ISP when i ran a server on it.....for bandwidth usage LOL
orappa Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I think its fixed anyway, (by looking at the first post)... No, that means that they've fixed it but haven't released a patch yet.
notjesus Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 yeah I know thats what I meant, really Just thought it would be futile to post any more specs of ppl having the problem sine its already been rectified, but what the hey
