dystopia
I was browesing servers i think saturday and ran across one with a 100 player limit...Now i know this wasn't even planned for releases far into the future, if even planned at all...i think it was named *that works* or *all works* something like that, anyone else catch it? I entered before i thought of any consequences lol, 8 people were in there and it reported pings of 2500...when i thought mta pretty much just capped the reading at 1k. Probably 8 people were in there, It disappeared so i wanted to ask lol. Edit-- ***what works** is the title, ip: 69.93.1.46:2003 Link to comment
Prokopis
Heh yeah, saw that myself yesterday and I thought "wtf?". I wanted to post about it, but I went on and played some on TmM's serv and forgot. Serv's stats according to ASE: what work|9999ms|69.93.1.46:2003. Seems dead now. Dunno, maybe it's a prank, maybe it's a hacked serv just to show that (there's a really useful trick ), or maybe serv admins report max player capacity in a manual way to ASE and this one was set to 100 deliberately. Anyway just an eyebrow raiser if you ask me, nothing more. Link to comment
dystopia
thats kind what i figured "if dousche bags can hex the client, why not the server" Link to comment
Si|ent
yeah we had that pointed out to us in IRC. Seems somebody hacked the server around to show that player limit. It of course cannot support any more than 26 players in a meaningfull way. (ie syncing). And judging by the ping when only one player is connected it cannot even be used as a limited internet chatroom Link to comment
Prokopis
K, well since we got that down, lemme ask something that's relatively irrelevant: I told my ASE to delete all servs with 100% PL a few days ago and it just so happened it didn't see the 18 player official at the time. Now I've refreshed a good few times since then, but I still don't see it. Is it still down? Is it up but hides from me? Am I going crazy? Is reality only what the matrix tells me? What's the meaning of life if you don't have green underwear? Link to comment
Si|ent
18 player Official is gone. Going? Reality? How the f*ck do you know what colour underpants I'm wearing? Link to comment
dystopia
::cough cough mrbump sure lays it on thick these days cough:: I'd just reset all your ase options to default, or reinstall the sucker Link to comment
Si|ent
lays what on thick? the 18 player server is gone. Simple enough answer for a simple enough question. The rest are attempts to answer his other less serious queries. Link to comment
dystopia
oh...i honestly didn't know it was gone, i was thinking you were mocking the idea it was gone...figures how normally sarcasm doesn't come thru in text when you want it to...and comes out when you don't want it to, sorry bout that lol Link to comment
Si|ent
Update: The 18 player server is now back up and should show on ASE if you refresh. Link to comment
[->>CURLY<<-]
lol /me wonders for what reson it could be down of corse it would have nuthing to do with say mta testing Link to comment
Kent747
righto, nothing to do w/ MTA testing Link to comment
michael196
I have a question about server I am from Israel and i started my clan's Official server and when players from israel are connecting all pings are about 58-120 that is fine, pretty good but when somebody from other country connects the pings are 1050 why is it happening i have T1 (1MB ADSL MODEM CONNECTION) So i am going to put the MTA server in my school's site server and it will work and they will not know about it but is it will be the same as it is on my coputer??? (PINGS I MEAN) Link to comment
dystopia
well, even if one person is on t1 in california and tried to connect to your server in isreal, their ping will still most likely suck lol electricity can only go so fast, not to mention if there are some satelites in the loop. I'm in texas, usa, and get 200ish pings in britian on decent dsl. Link to comment
Slothman
it's unfortunate but true. great distances increase ping, it cannot be helped. Link to comment
orappa
electricity can only go so fast Don't they use fibre-optic cabling in most places now? Link to comment
orappa
Light only goes so fast... They haven't discovered anything faster... yet. Link to comment
eAi
And, I think we can be pretty sure that nothing will, as things get heavier the faster they move, and are infinitely heavy when they reach the speed of light. eAi Link to comment
orappa
I'm not sure if we can be sure of that, as scientific theory has loads of gaping holes in it. And they often discover things that render previous theories useless. Link to comment
Kryptos
Firstly, ADSL does not classify as a T1 line, as ADSL is merely an Asynchronous Digital Service Line. A T1, or DS1, line is a clear channel generally leased from a company. ADSL lines, as well as most other Internet connections, vary in speed, ADSL normally ranges in three general directions; 384 Kb/s downstream and 128 Kb/s upstream, 1.5 Mb/s downstream and 384 Kb/s upstream, finishing with the monstrous 7 Mb/s downstream and 1.5 Mb/s upstream. T1 lines generally fit in around the 1.5 Mb/s area, although they do range from there. One of the most obvious tells that a T1 isn't the same as ADSL is that ADSL takes time to enter a region, the network has to first be set up and the services offered, whereas T1 lines are parallel to the phone companies existence in essence. With that aside, here's the theoretical part. The speed of light ranges depending on its medium, the speed of light can be calculated using the index of refraction. Although light is no constant, scientists have been able to prove that in a vacuum, such as space, the speed of light is 3.0 x 10 ^ 8 m/s, or 300,000 km/s. So, according to the scientific world nothing can travel faster then the speed of light in a vacuum, however there is a theory called Einstein-Rosenburg Bridges, otherwise referred to as the wormhole. These holes essentially create a shortcut between point A and point B. Of course, if Einstein-Rosenburg Bridges do exist that means that the space-time continuum can be altered, although we already know that in theory blackholes do this by stretching the space around them. As well, Einstein theorized the possibility that even the Earth warps space in it's rotation, which scientists have recently set out to prove. With that said, remember that these are theories and have yet to be proved either true or false. Ciao, Kryptos Link to comment
Si|ent
So. Are you suggesting the answer to his server giving high pings to distant people is to run it in a wormhole? Link to comment
Kryptos
First, I suggest that stop your condescending bullshit. I explained that a T1 line is not the same as ADSL in the first segment of my post, subsequently I submitted my viewpoint to the theory that is currently being discussed. Of course, a person of your statue has nothing to add and merely makes a vague attempt at flaming everything that is irrelevant. Ciao, Kryptos Link to comment
trx
Hold on people. It will be a while before we can play MTA on the Holodeck. =P Not intending to flame anyone, just saying stay on topic. Space talk is all good, but please do that on http://www.space.com or something similar. Link to comment
orappa
Yeah... I'm not quite sure how we got onto that subject. Anyway, I glanced up at the title of the topic and I think that we've exhausted all possible conversation regarding the 100 player server. So therefore a lock is requested Link to comment
