  1. Sounds good, maybe I can get my girlfriend to do a swedish and french translation Me, im too stupid to know any other langauges, I guess I was just born to be an English idiot... Anyway, great support for the community. I have seen spanish speakers in servers, I think by having accompanied readmes in various languages it can help to propagate MTA across the world
  2. No clue of the brand, and quite a few years ago defiantely no new games to take advantage of them. Thats why I said, maybe I'll give it a try again... but with how my cash flow is right now, it is definately not a top priority.
  3. Hell yeah Recently converted a friend though his AIM away messages are always in the default AIM for windows, he says "I have work that I can do only in Windows" ... grr, he has to stop getting used to using dreamweaver and IE and learn to live with superior tools but now he wants to install and use XP... *sigh* he says he doesn't need a "superior operating system" to do his work
  4. I know how they work and such, just back when I tried them, they only made things worse...
  5. Exscream graphics, 'eh. Stay away at all costs. Located on G-chipsets (i865G/GE, right?). I wouldn't know, but it might run GTA:VC okay. Dont count on it powering HL2, though.

    Chat Hacking.

What does it look like in-game? Thats the pic we'd want to see. Very interesting, though.
  7. First, let me teach you about hardware. Let me first go off by saing the Athlon XP line can go up to 400mhz FSB, not 333. The Athlon XP is a dual-pumped FSB, ie. it is really 200mhz, not 400. The same goes for the P4 - except it is a quad-pumped bus (4x200mhz, sends 4x information per clock), which only transfers data at quad, otherwise for address and control data it only sends at dual (or single?) pumped, like the Athlon (which means it is really a 200mhz bus quad pumped, older Intels were 133x4 and 100x4 - 533 and 400mhz, respectively). This is why the 800mhz fsb P4's are good with such things as movie encoding - they need to transfer lots of sequential data, which makes use of this bus. Without a dualchannel memory controller, though (see the next line), you don't get the full bandwidth delivered to the processor. Using a single-channel memory controller on either machine will give you the same amount of memory performance (theoretically). Most often this will actually lean toward the Athlon XP, since most released memory controllers (with the exception of the i865/i875 [though those are just bloat... look at the poor efficiency, *phew*!!]) are more tweaked to perfection for the Athlon XP's. Using a dualchannel memory controller (ie. nforce2, i865/i875, kt880, etc) on an Athlon platform leaves more memory available to other tasks, due to the FSB limiting factor - but this is just memory bandwidth. In todays gaming, that doesn't affect performance so much. A 400mhz FSB Athlon XP can only access 3.2gb/sec bandwidth, whereas a p4/800mhz bus can access 6.4. The Athlon on an nForce2 platform will hit around 2.9-3gb/sec, whereas the bloated P4 will hit 5-5.5gb/sec. Note where the efficiency lies? Just becuase there is more bandwidth, doesn't mean its faster. Lower latency chipsets can definately perform miracles - waiting for your data twice as long doesn't do you any good with having double the size when the competitor can get it twice as fast. With the Athlon 64 coming out, there is no longer an FSB - the link from the CPU to the memory controller is the same clock of the CPU, due to the memory controller being on-die. The only external link is the HyperTransport link, which technically isn't an FSB. This link operates at 800mhz and will evolve to be a 1.6ghz link. It is 8 bits wide, so it can transfer up to 6.4gb/sec across its bus. It operates much like the Pentium 4's QPB, in that it only sends address and control data at dual pumped speeds (I believe). But it doesn't have the memory hits that the P4 has, since the memory controller is on-die - even the singlechannel version (socket 754) owns P4 in a lot of tasks. The reduced latency (less than half of P4 chipsets, sometimes even more!!) really hits home. Whoever said "$1500 would get me a kickass computer", I could probably outperform yours with a bit of overclocking for a little bit over half of what you'd pay. $900, and I'll own anything - repeat, ANYTHING you can build with $1500. Trust me on that. Durons are easy to overclock, though you wont get much of an OC out of it. If you have a new Applebred Duron, you might be able to get 256k cache, but you'd have had to buy one within the last few weeks. PM me and I will give you some info. If anyone has any questions on the nForce2 chipset or computer stuff in general, give me a hollar via PM. I love to talk about techie stuff... Edit: several changes and additions made. Edit2: added a couple of things, changed some wording.
  8. They really work that great in Vice? Been thinking about getting a pair... And nice idea for the "dumb speech to smart speech" idea, but "dumb speech" varies so widely it would hard to set a standard. It would be just as hard to learn the "dumb speech" verison of English as the "proper speech" version. Very good idea, though...
  9. Uh... then try it without the no-cd crack. I use a no-cd crack with mine, works fine. First time I ran it it said "suspected trainer usage," but afterwards it worked fine...
  10. I'll try to understand that when I am not so tired. Repeat: try. I dont think I will succeed.
  11. What is the point in all the HDs? Make sure the maxtors are on the same channel if possible, those are ATA133 and the Seagate probably isn't, which can kill performance. About my machine, I love overclocking and I am an avid AMD user / enthusiast.. if you have any nForce2 or AMD questions come to me My overclock is pretty good, I might shell out the $50 or so just to get a processor that can do another 100mhz overclocked but I am thinking of waiting, in about a year I'll have a nice Athlon 64... s939, none of that single-channel stuff!
  12. 2k Pro is the same amount of $$ as XP Pro, I dont see how it is "so much more." For gaming, 2K Pro is just fine - less memory usage than XP. But then again, its too much memory usage for me, thank Microsoft. Hello, Gentoo... Game developers need to be aware not only Microsoft exists... ah well
  13. My machine is okay. No need for great graphics yet, maybe in a few months. A few months after, probably some A64. But that'll be a complete newbuild
  14. There are many open-source multiplayer game projects, so developing one isn't impossible. But, as I stated and many others stated many times, cheating would be the number one problem with that. I am sure with a clear and organized anti-cheat solution you could distribute the source, and of course a proper checkin and review system for accepting changes/fixes/updates to the client. Never say never... And besides, others making their own mods may be feasable, but would many spread? And even if so, what would they be based off of? Choosing a proper licensing scheme could link to you, bringing in more in the community... look at MAME. It is open source, and there are tons of projects based on it. That doesn't make MAME any more unusable, it rather propagates it and distributes it to even more users who may want to use some variant. With a multiplayer game, though, there are cheating, interoperability, version tracking and other problems that can become problematic in an open-source environment. That is why I mentioned perhaps some parts open, even some not directly having to do with the game (config utilities, etc) just for the good of the community. Even nothing would be fine... I dont know
  15. My own webhost. No worries with me. And what avatar? I dont see jack
  16. I never liked spam, weird texture. And the damned spamemrs that give it to me can go to hell too.
  17. really? hm like I said, i'll hafta take a look, I dont know anything about it, just a quick observation
  18. I am talking about modem compression, but regarding your own compression, I understand. Whitespace is in regards to extra spaces not required, ie. extra newlines. I just thought I saw this, but I dont know - i'll check sometime soon And yes, I see everything is relative to gameplay, but I mean when a character is standing still and sending data about their position even when they aren't moving, etc. I am pretty sure you all know about this already, and I can guess it isn't your major concern to make the netcode efficient until, as you said, you get an idea of where your protocol is going to stay.
  19. Fullheartedly agree. Having it open would be a wonderful idea, but as previously stated, doing something to circumvent "hackers" would be in order, and may be impossible in such a situation. Perhaps just the servertool, or maybe even the server might be a wise idea. The client, maybe, the only concern being "hackers." As stated by someone else above whatever is decided will probably be for the best, so I am for whatever happens... I just want to play
  20. I get high rates by something called Compression which shows some optimization could be taken on the data from MTA:VC. Of course, as I haven't taken any part in coding or understanding I haven't quite seen what has been done, but have noticed some extra whitespace that could be removed, etc. (just a little bit of peeking) Also my latter figures were wrong, the new meter shows actual kb/s instead of rounded kb/s for the whole sessions (silly me). Nevertheless I have hit a solid 10k for a while in a huge server. My upload is relatively low, around 1k or so. I thought it was higher (like you said, 1.5k)? I can do hardcore stuff and it barely peaks above that... just wondering. I also dont get disconected while playing normally, only with my inefficient proxy Remember, its udp data, and even locally high transfer rates will cause packet shifting/loss which can cause my disconnection - passing from client to intermediate program to server to intermediate program to client is an extra 2 things that shouldn't normally be there (intermediate program *2), if its busy doing one step it might not be able to do the other in time (unless I run them both on different threads... ) I have 56k because I am in foster care and barely have a job that makes money right now, as soon as I get out I will be on broadband. I am hardly at home so having broadband here is no concern at the moment, I have it at work.
  21. Use your enter/exit vehicle button to select a character.
  22. Things always run nice on this rig, but I should save some cash and get another videocard, then I could pump up aa/af
