Development would be a bit tricker though, although entirely possible, and how to boot to mta and hook GTA/Vice City would be a sight to see. I dont know what it is, maybe your resolution. Try the default 640x480 if you haven't. I run an MX700 without Logitech drivers (I have no need for the stupid "application button"), and it works fine for me, I have good aim

I dont like swapping CDs either so for non-MP games that require cds I use no-cd cracks, such as Vice City. MTA works fine with it for me, I dont get any other crashes other than the normal ones or those that happen at character selection / spawn.

No, even with choppers they are still all the way braked, ie. if someone lags, you'll notice your chopper drop, etc. - it is just an illusion, as you dont see any tiremarks or anything.

I have recently checked to see just how much data is sent and received for MTA:VC. I have noticed a trend of tons of data being received - 12k/sec on my 56k connection - with very little being sent. Not that a lot needs to be sent, but 12k on a 56k connection? That probably shows quite a bit of inefficiency. I will work on my local proxy today and tomorrow, and see if I can make it go longer without a disconnection, but if you dont mind maybe I could suggest some things you could do to make information transfer more efficient. Must be a lot of raw text that could be sent only as a few bytes of info... Just thought I would share.

I concur. Choosing the same playertype isn't necessarily a team. I generally play Mexican (just keep on tapping use, ) and team up with Police officers and sailors against other randoms. I couldn't care what they look like, just because they look like me that doesn't make them my teammate.

Browse to where your game is installed (Probably somewhere in Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA:VC or something, I really dont know, I often do not install to default paths), and you will find this file. Double-click on that file, and the game will launch. DO THIS WHILE BROWSING IN MTA:VC. Get it now?

Rule out connection problems right away - let us know you can browse the web and do other network activities on the server. Afterward, make sure that your firewall is configured to allow inbound access on port 2003, and that your router (if you have one) will foward ports to your local IP. Also, try connecting to yourself (127.0.0.1 in the client) and see if you can connect.

I can't tell the difference between 40ms and 400ms ping in this game... latency has a little to do with it (warping and such), but server syncing and parsing problems are a big problem as well. There needs to be a priority system, etc... maybe the problems we see'd start to go away then.

Heh... I learned C when I was 11, and even started "hacking around" with programs when I was young early social engineer... stole internet at the age of 12... And people did underestimate me. Now often I am considered very "smart" becuase ALL I know is computers and math and English and almost nothing else... but still, i've come a long way Hacking, per definition toward computer technologies, roughly means to crack at / manipulate in pieces / attempt to get past something in order for the ultimate goal of FIXING, or gaining of knowledge. It is not to break, harm, or otherwise destroy. I dont understand what a "malicious hacker" is... some mean guy who fixes things? I just consider people who destroy for their own game "trash," whether it has to do with computers or not.

That is totally correct, but that is often what is labelled... its hard to change what people "know," even if the terminology is at a basic level wrong

Well, think about it this way - MTA is a hack, developed by hackers. It isn't perfect (though what is), and it can be exploited. What do I think about it? Good for them, they're learning. But when it goes so far as to actively ruin games for people, server after server, that I dont like. There was a service I wrote hacks for, some of which could be detrimental to other users. I didn't use those... but some other came up with and borrwed some of mine, and actively used them against people... that I didn't like... and with some social skills and changes to the service and it was eventually brought to a stop MTA isn't a service, though - its just an addon hack for multiplayer in GTA. Its not as easy to control just through updating it, due to its distrobution means... new hacks will just come out. There really isn't anything you can do, but I can only hope and assume the team is actively working on solutions to these problems. Some have been handled (trainers, handling.cfg, etc), very many are yet to go... just wait. I have noticed much less cheaters now than in v0.1...
