Lag causes everyone enough problems as it is without voice chat. For LAN games it could be OK, but if you're on a LAN you can just shout across the room.

You've just said that we don't have to worry about how early in the morning it is, as long as it isn't early in the morning. Strange fellow.

POLL : Weapons of the Hunter helicopter , ENABLE or DISABLE
Cerbera replied to xhispage's topic in General MTA:VC
The issue I have with the hunter guns is that they auto-aim, thus removing any piloting skill. Because of that, I vote NO to enabling weapons. -
Over the next couple of days I'll be getting details from the VCP about the specific times thier members can manage. It can't be too early in the morning because the US won't be awake - it is a Sunday, after all.

Just use the one I suggested. Its simple and would be a very fair test as everyone has to defend and attack both locations. 1. SSR attack VCA at VCA base. 2. VCA attack SSR at VCA base. 3. VCA attack SSR at SSR base. 4. SSR attack VCA at SSR base. 5. VCA attack SSR at SSR base AND SSR attack VCA at VCA base I've made sure only players who can understand the merits of organised assualt rounds are allowed into SSR. It meant turning away quite a few people, which was unfortunate, but it does mean that we have a more respectable set of members. As for weapons gathering, who bothers with that? If you run out of ammo then I can understand but if you've got guns then use them. That's been my style since back in '99 playing GTA2. (EDIT) More respectable in the sense of it wouldn't be good for the SSR if we had dumb newbies that couldn't follow instructions - wasn't making a dig at any other gangs.

I think that sunday afternoon UK time is going to be the best...

There's thousands of people using MTA, so finding 20 or 30 who would participate shouldn't be too hard. I'd suggest making your server public, but make sure it includes "role-playing" in the title and make the MOTD.txt explain what the server is about. That would help raise awareness about it faster.

So, what's happening about this game? I've recruited another soldier in preperation...I'm getting our players to say in the SSR Grandstand what times they could make for the game. So far it seems to be afternoon or evening GMT as the best bet for our people to be able to make it. I'm not sure if I can do Sunday, grandparents might be coming over. Consider both days open, at the moment.

Dude, just miss the bloody movie! Vulcan is giving me his times later in the week. He's in GMT+10 so things could be awkward...depends how late/early he can be on for...
-
I've pinned this for you. Send a Private Message to Blokker so he can arrange you with the permissions to manage your own ladder topic, as you are a gang leader. BTW, you have to be registered in this topic and therefore have 6 members before you qualify as an official gang for the ladder.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised either, as there's a lot of idiots here who think that the number posts someone makes equals how much credulity to lend to their ideas. This is *possible* because the MTA team *could* add about 15 police characters to the game using the mission script. Same sort of technique as adding cars, you just set thier "threat" level to be anyone who fires a gun near them and they'd give chase. When they died/got destroyed they would be respawned BUT THERE ARE HUGE PROBLEMS. Firstly, transferring thier locations to everyone in the game will make it lag like there area 15 more people connected than their actually is. Secondly, we are all aware of the bugs from cars that respawn without everyone being updated, so they end up wedged in the ground. Similar errors would occur with cops. Thirdly, desyncronised cops roaming all over the place would be VERY frustrating and could even crash the game. Fourthly, cops destroy gameplay. They destroy it in GTA2 and they would destroy it in Vice even worse because of syncronisation problems and the additional connection load. Neat idea but too many inavoidable problems to make it worthwhile, I'd suggest.

Capturing video puts an EXTREME load on your PC. The game speed is reduced so badly that it would be unplayable with MTAVC running as well. Replays de-syncronise you from the other players you are around because the "replay.REP" files are just a collection of object ID's and thier positions, which are then run through the game engine when you run them using F1 or F3. There isn't any video capture in Vice and no way to prevent them de-syncronising you.

You should update that topic, then. Also, you should set the player limit to ~16. It says in the documentation that twenty-something is the absolulte limit...whoever set that server was being rather lazy as it's at 32. No-one was on it when I joined at 1117GMT. I'd like to try out the private port with you guys to test how good the speed is, whether it would be a better bet than then 24/7 server SSR have.
-
It'll be, erm, saturday the 25th or sunday the 26th? Oh, say your times in GMT, please.
-
Feck. I though you guys were gonna play us next weekend? I've started recruiting soliders (not racers) in preperation for it! SSR Grandstand - come and tell us WTF is going on! BTW, I noticed you had a 24/7 server same as us, listed in the gang memberlist as "216.65.55.2:2003" but, when I tried to connect to it, the thing failed. Does it not run, or is it a private server?
-
Be more active on this forum and you'll know when I do! Also, could you post the times you are available on saturday and sunday next weekend, in GMT please?
-
You may like to try spelling "scheduled" correctly.
-
VCA already claimed it, didn't you look at the map?
-
Read the "announcement" topics.

I'd certainly be interested in that, as one leader to another. I've sent all my members a newsletter (our second issue, using the PM system) to get a little more active in preparation for clan games. Hopeful some will trundle in here and offer their opinion and available times. It's possible that I could negotiate with my parents to have the computer on late IF we play on Friday or Saturday evening, GMT. Two weeks time should be plenty of time for us to work a game into our schedule. How about we have some friendly matches before then? Do you guys have an always-running server?

Sleeper, I thought I summed it up pretty effectivly in my essay on the previous page but you've highlighted a criticism of the MTA team which is shared (perhaps unfairly) by the greater majority of moddifiers. As part of a modifications community themselves, one would hope that the MTA team would be more accomodating to others who alter and create this game. CRC as an option is, as I proposed earlier, the solution to a lot of these problems. By not even running a check on the SCM it would allow ANY team to test thier projects together. The primary benefits of this I've already mentioned but additionally the fact that MTA:VC, if it was made more accessible to moddifiers, would improve the scene enormously. After all, it's only because there has been a Grand Theft Auto modifications community since 1997 that all these great sequels have been made.

Your stupidity could best be described using these elements: Poor expression of ideas. Childish choice of expressive icon. Being unable to forsee future benefits. Prefering to find faults than find solutions. Criticising a system which has already been tested and proved. Failure to understand that which you have formed an opinion of. There are others but I'm a busy man. I tell you again - if you don't like it then we can discuss it through PM's rather than disrupting it.
-
On the contrary, it is YOU who has demonstrated thier stupidity. If you don't like the idea then don't get involved with it. PM me and I'll explain why it's a good idea (or get me on windows messanger) but don't you dare spoil this for the people that ARE using it.
-
It's single spawn and one team has to stay put, so each round wouldn't take long really...only the fifth round might but you only need to play that if it's a draw from the previous four.
-
To incorporate the HQ's would be the best bet. Example: 1. SSR attack VCA at VCA base. 2. VCA attack SSR at VCA base. 3. VCA attack SSR at SSR base. 4. SSR attack VCA at SSR base. 5. VCA attack SSR at SSR base AND SSR attack VCA at VCA base. That 5-round setup would be best imho, as both team bases get used and you still retain a "decider" round if required.
