If you install it on C: it should work.. otherwise try to search on '[game-exe]' , 'game location', 'reset game path' or something like that cause there's another thread open with some solutions in it.
If you're using an australian version of VC, i recommend you to get rid of it and get an european/american version.
If that's not your problem, make sure you installed 0.3r2 instead of 0.3
GSpot is kinda handy yea.. if you're looking for ANYTHING that's related to video/audio (dubbing, codecs, codec packs, video editing tools, subtitle plugins, subtitle editors, video conversions, format conversions, etc.) just take a look at http://www.doom9.org
Once we got this masterserver, and our own listingserver system.. other cool programs like KQuery will be able to list MTA servers as well

Well anyways, back ontopic, it can be done by opcodes.. you could take a look at a stripped version of the GTA:VC scm or at an opcode list / tutorial, whatever..
