While MTA can take up some disk space depending on a particular server's resources, MTA is probably not taking up a very significant amount of space. You can try running Disk Cleanup (if I recall correctly, Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup; if that doesn't work, Start -> Run -> cleanmgr.exe) to see if you can free any space.

You're right, dxdiag was just being dumb since the Windows Audio service was not running for some reason.

Great. You seem to not have any audio driver installed though, which is troubling. I can't determine what driver you need based on your dxdiag log unfortunately. Though if sound works fine, I suppose it's a moot point.
