Aralkar
www.fraps.com Yes, it's an easy program and makes quality movies. When you press the record key in the game the fps will fall a bit but it's ok in the video. The only problem is the space that it takes (about 600 MB for some minutes) but it's the best I've seen Link to comment
[xNet]DrDre
convert it to a smaller format Link to comment
Aralkar
convert it to a smaller format that's what I do Link to comment

|Y|aNi}{
CamStudio is another good Screen Recorder Software that's easy to use and you can also record what you are doing outside of the game....But you need a good comp to run it well.... Link to comment
DarkGX
Fraps always stops working after the load screen for me, any suggestions? Link to comment
Robpol86
try loadin fraps after gta3. start ur game and alt-tab to ur desktop and load fraps Link to comment
petebog
wats the best codec 2 compress the movies to? i use DivX5 but i want to know if there a codec that pax more quality in less space (on mine, around 2 mins is 12 megs) Divx5 and Xvid are pretty much the best codecs available for getting a small file size. If you haven't done it already, try resizing the video when you recompress it, down to 640x480 or smaller. You should then be able to get good quality with a lower bitrate. What codec do you use for capture? HuffYUV is probably the best to use. Hope thats some help. Link to comment
FoX
I perfer Xvid personally. I get better quality from it with similar or lower file sizes compared to divx Link to comment
|Y|aNi}{
How do you choose the codec in fraps? Link to comment
FoX
How do you choose the codec in fraps? you cant. Fraps only records to uncompressed avi, it would take too much CPU time to record and convert you have ot use a program like Vdub Link to comment
|Y|aNi}{
Vdub is a program that compress video files with the codec you choose? So you just have to record a 200 mb file for 30 secs and after compress it with a codec? Link to comment
Robpol86
yes, but usually there around 900 MB uncompressed, after compressing they get smaller (under 20 megs) i just dont c how those dvd-rips from south park i have that r dvd-quality can be 100 megs, o well Link to comment
petebog
Vdub is a program that compress video files with the codec you choose? So you just have to record a 200 mb file for 30 secs and after compress it with a codec? That's right, Virtualdub is a great program that can do a great deal more besides compression. It's a shame you can't use codecs in fraps, a modern machine is easily capable of recording directly with compression, especially if you use a lower frame rate. Link to comment
Dreamerz
Somehow I cant get Fraps to record avi movies. What do I do after I pressed the hotkey? Let it roll? All I got was a 2 k avi that cant even be opened. Link to comment
crew
Does this "Fraps" software work with any game? Link to comment
|Y|aNi}{
Yeah....And it's true that Fraps could record in compressed files....Or at least record uncompressed and after compress them before saving Link to comment
Guest
why not record it to camcorder or vcr first, if u got tv out.. then convert back, u will get the best quality.... Link to comment
Robpol86
record ur gta3 game to a vcr? that would give u a loss of quality. alot. fraps is better. it recorded exactly wat i saw. it wasnt blurry. using a vcr would make ur vid blurry. Link to comment
