Whenever I try to install GTA:Vice City, it gets to about a few blocks off the end and says "Component Error: Catastrophic Failure" or something along those lines. Can anyone help? I've been waiting for this game for so long and I only got it today

I have had that error with WM radio feeds within Windows Media Shredder the few times I have had to use it... nothing else, though. Dont know what to tell you. Maybe be a bit more specific, if possible?

the window that pops up says "Component Transfer Error"

below that it says..

Component: GTA Vice City

File group:

File:

Error: Catastrophic failure

then theres an ok button... thats as detailed as i can give you. id really reaally really truly like it to work

i have windows xp, geforce 2 mx 400 vid card, i tried compatabilitiy windows 2000 and it still doesnt install

ive tried copying it to the hard drive and it still doesnt work from there same error

Try to copy the files from you Disk 1 and install from a folder on your HD. If you say no to music, you only need Disk 1 copied over.

No warez talk either, just an idea to try :)

Yeah thats a cd rom drive error, happened to me with unreal tournament 2k3. Three days later my drive stopped working entirely

Do you have another Pc in the house? Map the CD drive and install, or just do a Cd Dump from the other pc :)

Best way, Spend $30 for a new Cd drive :)

Use another one.. or use a mounted (in windows=shared) cdrom drive from another computer from the local area network.

i have a double 52x cdr/dvd-r re-writeable drive. i got it only a few weeks ago

???

If you just bought it, go back and exchange it now. Be glad it started getting flakey on you when you could still return/exchange it.

The drive might've been defectively manufactured... Or it isn't set up properly yet.
