  1. well, what i've found, is countries the often speak 2 languages taught in school, often speak more than that. So perhaps neighboring countries etc. that might speak estonian but not english. This flu bug going around the south area has about got my brain fried lol
  2. utopia, your unculturedness is funny ;P It should help quite a bit, explaining lag and cheating differences to someone who can only speak broken english can be very difficult, perhaps when i finally finish that doc of mine someone can translate it into necessary languages for your site
  3. i'd be afraid of how it might be negatively used tho (thinks of why server .3.1.0 needed to be released) beh
  4. sounds like a good idea, yeah xp and it's cutesy images and unnecessary processes , blech imho you can probably survive with w2k3, i have (i too said i'd learn linux...4 years later i haven't even dl'ed a distro lmao)
  5. for a client side game like MTA, it's more about bandwidth anyway, i don't think you'll see much of a difference between 2k3 and linux, now using xp home or pro then you'd probably see a difference, a bad one altho i've used windows 2k pro, it ran ok as a webserver, dunno about as a game server tho
  6. sounds like he's either trying to play on windows 9x (windows 95, 98, or me) or he is on a bad 56k connection. You might also make sure you don't have any p2p programs open, they'll eat all your upstream bandwidth.
  7. Lol this is true, w2k worked like a slave for me and I did buy it...but like wxp seems to be w2k with cute images and less options, it just doesn't warrant being called a new os, nor worth 200 bucks to me, perhaps the mce...but even then its so clunky. But then, even when an os comes with a pc, half the time they don't give you the disk anymore, and that's big bs to a person like me. When a pc says "comes with windows xp" it should come with a windows install cd, not a damn image disc. So I end up getting an iso anyhow...but that's somehow protected under that backup law Anyhoot, if you can find w2k cheaper than winxp, jus get the 2k, you won't be disapointed compared to ME either way lol
  8. i think part of the problem is, your brain is too focused on "holy crap, i'm playing GTA...ONLINE woooo" when you first start, instead of remembering who you killed lol only reason i remember what i did is because i couldn't stop laughing
  9. I've been noticing a lot of people recently who are not only on 56k, but some who simply have HORRIFIC pc specs, this almost makes it look as if they are cheating, 150 ping, and always can seem to hit you, but you can never hit them. Luckily the old molotov bug does a lot of them in...if it doesn't kill them it'll crash their pc hehe oh, and alco, it's normally easier to kill them the old fashioned way with heli blades...take them by suprise, become a hero heh
  10. of course, win is worth about as much as the bandwidth it takes to get it
  11. I can't remember who, but i know i spawned as a crusader in the golf range, grabbed the golfcart and was cruising around...turned a corner and hit a guy killing him...the entire server got a laugh lol
  12. i was fighting a guy once, he paused like a wieny (heh) and tells me he wanted a drink...i told him i was going to wait there til he unpaused or left the server, he unpaused after about 5 minutes, i killed him, and he proceeded to tell me how unfair that was
  13. well, you'd want to have a central database, not one per server, then someone could easily register your name on any random server you haven't played on before. But such a server would eat some bandwidth, so finding a host would be fun i'm sure . it might make a nice alternative or backup to the banlist too
  14. Recently in an attempt to help control spam aol started blocking smtp requests from public domains. I realized this awhile back when my forums kept getting denied by aol. As well, this forum has stopped sending mails to my aol account. The only real cure for end users is to get a new email for forums, personally I had to switch to my cellphones email. Supposedly it is possible to get an ip unbanned, but when I contacted verizon, they said they wouldn't deal with it for a home account such as mine. Obviously mta isn't hosted at a home, but its smtp is being denied. Since I hadn't seen a post on it, figured I would make it aware in the event anyone had this problem. And yeah yeah "aol is a lame kids internet" truth is we keep it for my tech impaired mother and brother haha.
  15. I was just curious as to how well spectator mode will display movement, shots fired etc, Many times when someone is lagging and can't kill another player, they accuse the nonlagger as a cheater(or vice versa). For the nonlagger it simply appears the other is shooting into random space. Will spectator mode properly display this? I've never had a third person around to act as the 'camera' in such a situation. I could only assume that spec mode would show the same events as if you were ingame and standing there. I ask because many of the admins are waiting for spec mode to judge who is cheating or not, and if it displays events wrong, this could result in some bad judgements. Although I don't particularly care to play with laggers, that doesn't mean I don't believe they should lose or gain rights in such matters.
  16. funny how I never seem to lag much on british server, but anyhow, the votes probably are accurately representative to the population of each community how many users does this forum have registered? and we have 103(ish) votes, less not counting whoever voted more than once i guess.
  17. I've noticed this a lot within the past few weeks, perhaps its the new base of users flooding in from the sections in tv and magazines, but complaining has esculated tremendously. I've only played mta now for a few months I guess and can even see this. Honestly it seems itd have to be even harder on devs/team.
  18. I've been there my friend, I find temporary salvation in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness for ps2, I love that game, even as hard as it is to accept the fact that MTA is non-playable due to such conditions.
  19. I normally won't go so far as to bitch about ping, i WILL notify someone if it's high and I don't know them from the past. I like being notified myself, when i normally run 70, and for some reason it shoots up to 400+ I will exit the game, reset my router and all will be good lol. And utopia, you can get a bit , whats the word, hmmm, ruffled over laggers/cheaters sometimes, perhaps a spiritual quest is in order hehe
  20. ...woul he sync on everyone elses screen, or only when he types something...either way i think i'll stay the hell away from him hehe (no offense, but being blasted by a 98 user doesn't sound like a lot of fun)
  21. Well, psychology is funny, many times I have simply asked them how long they have played, the typical answer is this is my first day, or i'e played a week or two. After explaining the situation many will understand, I suppose a lot of people think this is a waste of time, but since we don't run a server, I guess it's my own way of giving back to the commun. You've probably seen plenty of that, someone asks why wont someone die and they will be ignored. Or often when responded to, it's in very negative terms. The only solution to the problem as a whole is to have that one friendly admin to help out with questions. Humans just need recognition in these types of communities, take away that and they become attention starved jerks, or cheaters. Where you state your friends know you and would ignore the n00b is part of the problem. Instead, just tell the guy, you or me are lagging. There's no need to piss people off, if you outright say 'you suck' you very well could have just created another cheater. Even if something is not true, if it seems logical, say it's a beta, keeping spirits up despite lack of skill is a key I've found. Problem is, just like any society no one wants to be equal but always better, and never looked down upon. So to sum it up, unhappy gamers given a reasonable solution will more often than not continue to learn. Those who are ignored or tormented will be doomed to cheat.
  22. typically the cheaters psyche keeps them from talking as a "if they don't see me they can't accuse me" type deal...playing under an alias is best left to admins, especially after you've been revealed on the forum hehe. Although you are right on the less friendly atmosphere...i think it's mainly because most people that play MTA...heard of MTA because they are frequent gamers, even good gamers in other games and have an ego. Since MTA is obviously different than most other games which are based from mp play as opposed to sp play, the rules and fighting strategies are drastically different. So many noobs tend to be very hot headed. At the same time, many vets can tend to be easily agitated as well, which doesn't help much. The only way to solve it is help people out, if someone is new, offer advice. Simply mold the new people to be more understanding instead of ignoring them and have them turn cold. These discussions are making my document on cheating longer and longer...eventually it'll get released lol. but this is just how my analytical mind sees it
  23. i found a guy keying my car not too long ago, i told him to go back to it's spawn and get bring me back a new one before i killed him... :\ in the end i had to shake him down for the repair costs edit - also, altho not mta, I've played the ps2 vc so much the radar area has burnt my screen permanently lol
  24. get windows 2000 pro, it's much better than windows 98 (i used to be hardcore 9x too...) and i think you can find it decently priced too
