Infinate is right. S4Y sucks. Their network experiences random packet-losses, ping spikes and outages. You have to pay for every little bit of support like reinstalling the server image.

I am using antivirus (a very good one) and it did not prevent me from a very dumb situation... I dind't update my flash player for quite a while. Few weeks ago there was this 0day, compromising systems through the flash player, I just said to myself "meh, nothing will happen to you, you never browse any weird sites"... Today I reinstalled my whole comp since I got a trojan, just through this security hole. Apparently there was a compromised ad-server, and this ad (containing the 0day-trojan) was just loaded on my computer. This could even work on facebook, as long as they are not sorting out what advertising companies they trust.

So guys, here we go. On 5th of November my dedicated server expires - I am currently migrating to a redundant VPS-Solution. There are 30 days left and I've got no use for the server anymore, so I am just giving away a few MTA servers and a few VPS for one month, for free. Just drop me a PM and I will set it up for you. I will set up servers with up to 64 slots, for further information i would refer to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=116&t=46335. But this time, this all is for free. (Except the IP, I am going to leave that out this time). I am currently not encouraged to extend the contract with the hosting company of my dedicated server. But if you are satisfied with your sever and you would like to renew your service (MTA server or VPS) just drop me a line and if there are enough people who are interested, I will maybe continue hosting this server. Please understand that in this case I would ask small fee for every server (pricing can be looked up in this Thread: viewtopic.php?f=116&t=46335) to cover the dedicated server's fee. For the VPS I will give you an OpenVZ container with 512 MB RAM and the same amout of Swap Memory, 100GB of disk size and 1vCPU. For the VPS server itself you will not have to pay any bit. However, every new IP I request from my hosting provider costs me 1€, so if you plan to get a VPS I would have to ask you this 1€ for the IP. You are allowed to install almost anything you want onto this server (OS will be Debian), but I ask you not to do anything illegal AND please avoid IRC bouncers/servers and torrent seeders. However, downloading legal(!) torrents is permitted. Of course VPNs are also allowed, though I doubt that owning a VPN in Germany would make any sense for you. Again, for the VPS: Drop me a line and I will set it up. Also give me a hostname and an initial root password (you should change it later, anyways) to configure your server. Any questions? Well, I think I am going to abandon this little project, nobody seems to need my servers. I'll keep things up until 1st of September and if nothing happened till then, I will ask a mod to close this thread.

I think MySQL is good to use, but if databases are being read/written during the gameplay, the database server should be on the same local machine or at least in the same network.

Unfortunately it is not. It is possible to keep the MTA server online when you own a VPS like Lloyd Logan stated, or rent an MTA server. If you need some help with setting up a server on a VPS or would like to rent a server just reply to the post or PM me.

great idea dude. RDP is for Windows Servers. It is very unlikely that they have Windows VPSes running, since these would need a legal Windows Server license which would probably double or triple the price you are currently paying for. Use the good old SSH Client like putty. This is a good place to start: http://linux.multitheftauto.com/ download the mentioned files with wget, extract (tar xzvf archive.tar.gz) and move them to the corret folders (mv source destination). Well, whatever you call shady. I am providing a testserver, I am almost three years longer a member of this forum than you. Apart from that, look at other hosts. 128 Slots cost between 10€ and 20€ there, so what's the problem with 15? I don't want to make profit from that, I just want to keep my own expenses lower. And be assured that a few MTA Servers won't cover the monthly server fee.

Hey guys, I actually own a dedicated root server, it is just running a Webserver, a mailserver, a VPN/Proxyserver and a media server. I am going to host 3 or 4 MTA Servers on that machine, it runs with an AMD Athlon II X4 605e (Quad-Core CPU), 8GB RAM, and a 100 MBit/s link. So 3 or 4 MTA Servers will perfectly fit on that. I will offer you to choose the OS: The server OS is Debian, but i also got a Windows Server VM running. The choice is up to you. Furthermore I've set up a small MTA Testserver for you to check it out. It is currently running inside the Windows VM and doing perfectly well. Hello guys, Here we are. With an empty server. Time to change that a bit, so why not scripting a new gamemode? Scripting is no problem, the only problem is the type. What kind of gamemode? RP servers are enough, especially with Simbad's server. Team elimination (Stealth etc..) is already scripted. Not enough players, from time to time getting a little bit annoyed to wait all the time for spawning. Race is more or less attractive. So i need your ideas I would like to insert PED functions. Maybe making some missions for the players, delivering things here and there... A little bit shooting and so on. Maybe in attachment to a website, where the players can buy upgrades (e.g. more bullets) for money, they gained ingame. But i am missing the great idea So i could need some help Btw.
