The uzi is the only gun that shows up, and the method used to make it fire isn't very stable. Although you should still be able to kill people with it.

All the programmers are working together. We're starting the program from scratch using all our knowledge, I think this'll work out the best.
-
There are no new episodes, dumb Fox canceled it so we could watch thrilling stuff like 'Joe Millionaire.' Although you can watch the reruns 11:30 EST on Cartoon Network (if you're in the US).

Hope it doesn't make my site die: http://www.digitalatrocity.com/MTA.EXE

Nah, that's not warez. Family Guy is my favorite TV show. Although they don't make them anymore so the Adult Swim lineup would have to be second place.

You're crazy. What we had done is going into MTA, we know how things work now, so we're starting some things over, nice and clean. It'll be really nice when it's done.

OpenGL is dead, man.

What a mess. Closed for the good of mankind.

The cars are invinsible and the health is high because this is an early version which only attempts to get the basic functionality of a multiplayer mod working. Things like walking, shooting, driving. It gets more complicated when you have to check for destroyed cars and such.

collision sync? any collision at all?
Sintax replied to a topic in Mod Suggestions - MTA 0.1/0.2 Alpha
The cars are just cars in GTA3 that the MTA program tells to move around, so they should react exactly like any other car in GTA, collision and all. -
I found a memory address to make actors animate. I got them walking when other players move .

I don't wanna speak for MTA or anything, but VC does indeed use just about the same system as GTA3, all the memory addresses seem to work the same way. I already found which ones I need. I would say converting to VC wouldn't be hard at all. And GTA3's left-in multiplayer has nothing to do with the multiplayer mods.

Yeah, open source is MTA's perogitive, and it doesn't seem like the community has much to offer anyway. Although, they should really be open to help from anywhere they can get it, there's no reason to stunt production of MTA for whatever selfish reasons they have. It's too daunting of a project to do that.

The only reason CS got hacked so much is because there are so many people playing it. And most of them are immature 13 year olds. Besides, none of those hacks come from the source being released, they were all from flaws or exploits to the Half-Life engine. And if you think you're going to stop cheaters when a large company like Sierra or Valve can't, you're dreaming. Especially when what you're essentially doing is hacking a game itself. Cheats are inevitable with this, you'll just have to trust the community not to do it, or only play with people you trust.

Possible problem with Speed mode
Sintax replied to a topic in General MTA Discussion - MTA 0.1/0.2 Alpha
If I'm not mistaken, the buses have a lot of weight and power to them. If that bus is trucking along, and you stop in front of it, it's most likely going to plow you out of the way no problem. -
It's true, modding GTA3 to be multiplayer is such a difficult and delicate thing to have to do, it wouldn't be that hard to hack. If professional companies can't stop their games from being hacked (like with Counter-Strike, for instance), there's no way a small group of people who are modding a game that is not intended to have multiplayer will. There's just going to have to be an honor system put in play. Either way, there are ways to prevent cheating, but seeing the code released without the cheating prevention code is an obvious thing to do. The fact that there is probably no cheating protection in MTA .3 only reainforces the fact that it should probably be open source. All in all, I know that it'd be hard to give out code you've worked hard on, and I don't know if I would even want to release it. But with such a difficult task at hand, and a community that isn't too large, it may be a necessary step to take. But one thing is for sure; the more people working on it, the better the outcome will be. Hell, if I had your code, there'd already be a C++ port by now. Not to mention the alienation that you bring onto the community is a large part of the problems seen in this forum. You guys withhold a lot of information from a group of people that are all working towards the same goal, and that's not only counterproductive, but it makes people angry. The forum shutdown proved to be the height of this accumulation of this unease (and further divided the MTA team from the rest of the community). I know you guys want your time in the spotlight, but the greater man is the one who sacrifices such vein virtues for the greater good of those who share his ideals and interests. Keep that in mind and remember we all want the same thing.
-
I offered to convert your mod to C++, but I guess you guys didn't want that. I'm thinking just releasing an open source version of my own MP mod will be more helpful, anyway.

You can't access that file from your website because it is linked to the file on 50megs from Geocities. In order to download it, it needs to be linked from 50megs, which means your site should be on there. Either move the file to geocities or move the site to 50megs. Also, your website made me blind.

VICE CITY WILL HAVE MULTIPLAYER!!!
Sintax replied to RipTide's topic in General MTA Discussion - MTA 0.1/0.2 Alpha
I'm pretty sure that's just Rockstar giving the "you should do multiplayer" a shove off. They're saying 'sure we COULD do multiplayer, but we want it to be really good, and we don't have time to make it that good, so we're not going to put it in.' I think that's just a load of crap (ANY multiplayer in GTA3 would be tons of fun), I get the feeling they're waiting for the next title, which will probably be based around multiplayer. -
I'm pretty sure all those actors are just specified in the main.scm, which means only the MTA team can choose which ones they are. I'm not sure if there's a memory address to change it in-game (it would be easy, if that was the case), but if there is MTA hasn't found it. I'm guessing they make the two different teams different actors just so you can tell who is who. Although it's kinda dumb because you'll always look like the "guy" to you, and you'll look like some other model to everyone else.
-
I'd say nix the background image, it's pretty distracting.
-
I don't think cheating will be a real problem until GTA3 multiplayer really catches on, and the team probably has a while until them. Not to mention I think they'll start focusing on cheat prevention after they have a nice, solid program, first. Although it's always best to play with people you know and trust.
-
I'm not sure how that would be possible, being limited to only editing the memory, but maybe if the program could figure out what your cursor was aimed at, it could print it out like the chat.
