Tohuwabohu server (Black screen problem after 5 years successful running)

Radeon

Question

Hello everyone,

I'm an admin of the server "Tohuwabohu Freeroam" and we need your help to solve this strange problem.

We had this server successfully running for 5 years but some days ago we got strange problem.

We got black screen problem (We could see players joining, their chats, we could download map fully but sometimes failed.) and timed out after a while.

Then we tried:

Removing all the scripts.
Reinstalling MTA
Reset everything
We tried contacting our providers and they said there is no problem with hosting and they even changed the hardware of host.

But nothing worked.

Now everything is reset just like a Default server, though we don't see any black screen problem but when we join, just after a second we get "connection error" then "timed out"

Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

If you've updated scripts, there may be a new bug that was introduced in that commit. Make sure to double-check any recent changes to your code and revert back to a later commit if possible.

It could also (very unlikely, but possible) be because of an update to the MTA server. Have you updated your MTA server recently? It is possible it broke after that. Try installing the latest update just to make sure you're running the latest version.

How are your server stats looking? High CPU usage? High RAM usage? High disk usage? High network usage?

Is it possible you may have been hacked and someone may have been able to crash the server by damaging the core or MTA or your scripts, or something else?

Have you done changes to the firewall that would block incoming or outgoing packets? Is there any kind of throttling enabled? Are you running a reverse proxy for the MTA server – maybe there is a front-end server problem?

Always try to go back in time and see what may have caused the issue. We can't really help much if you just say nothing suddenly works...

Did you re-install the OS of the server machine already? Moved the whole server directory to a secondary test host and tried to run from there?

Pull up a backup and don't touch anything before running (don't think about ''re-adding what would be lost from a rollback'') on the same server machine, and after that on a secondary. Dont try to minimalize a rollback, nor update anything, just run a complete server dir backup from when it still worked.

Don't only re-install the server OS, also if present re-configure/totally reset the service from a Hosting company control panel (again, if they offer such a thing).

If the moved server files run without problems on a test host, they can't deny the problem is with their host. If they still do so I advise to find another host, if they won't investigate further.

Open commandprompt on a PC having the joining issues, and enter tracert [your server IP] then post the output log in this topic.

If your hoster offers a control panel as I named before, go there and look for a firewall setting and configuration (some hosters offer a second firewall ontop of OS, on a low level like the hosting control panel) and disable any filtering or connection rules/toggle the firewall layer off if possible.
