Soapurb
Okay lets assume that our friends at mta have unlimited funds and staff. Let's just ASSUME. Would it be possible, EVER, to make the current Vice City engine, run fully, with all the features of single player, multiplayer? Link to comment
orappa
Do you mean recompile VC so that multiplayer is supported within the game? Link to comment
Soapurb
No, so that mta has all the features of single player. Link to comment
Soapurb
I'll try to explain it better - Mta exactlly as it is now, except when you get in the game you stil have peds and traffic and cars and cops etc Maybe even missions. - Although that would obviously have to be tweaked and not exactlly as singple player. Link to comment
Trust
this has been discussed before, and syncing all those peds&traffic would cause an incredible lag, according to the MTA-team. I've also heard other theories out there, but I believe them for the moment Link to comment
sm|slash
Guess if you had better internet it would work, still i wounder if it works at Gbit lan or 100 mbit lan, it would work i guess, (just guessing) Link to comment
Trust
ok, let's ASSUME you're able to sync peds&traffic, what would you when you're on a mission? there are ingame cut-scenes, and you can't just make that one player sees that scenes while someone else is already playing the mission. This would be very difficult to solve, there are so many limitations in MP that it can't be done... Link to comment
sm|slash
maby they would make an "OMG WAIT!!111 THE Other GAY PLAYER HAVENT SEEN THE WHoLE CUT SCENE :S", that would be "great" Link to comment
orappa
If MTA ever has missions, the missions will either have to be adapted from SP or made from scratch. I don't think a straight conversion will work, as Trust said. Link to comment
StAnToN
also no you wouldnt be able to recompile and edit the vice city engine because it wouldn't be legal.... Link to comment
orappa
also no you wouldnt be able to recompile and edit the vice city engine because it wouldn't be legal.... Yeah... but it wouldn't be physically or technically impossible, as I was saying. Link to comment
OpiuM.
well, this guy krytos said in the GTA forums, that you could make each "sector" of VC a "level" i.e. every time that you change fromthe docks to the airport it would disconnect from one server and go into another (or portions of one server id assume), i dont really know what he said, as i forgot and the GTAF at this moment is down for me..... StAnToN
yeh kryptos is a good coder and well known in the gta community i think his method would work but its just to test and see really... Link to comment
Cray
His theory works more in a large level in games that support widespread servers (truly massively multiplayer). Theoretically anything is possible, given the right amount of time and money. So, who wants to start paying me to work full-time on this? Link to comment
Soapurb
You could always ask rockstar for a large one-off payment to help develop the mod, maybe they will because you supporting their games, and your making a mod that doesnt actually change the gameplay of the game they made, where as most mods change that, so they will be flattered by that of course. Really all your doing is making the game they made BETTER, by putting multiplayer in it, I only purchased Vice City for PC because I heard of the mods, so obviously you are getting more money for Rockstar. So come on whats a lousy 10 grand or so to them? Link to comment
orappa
Yes, but if servers were running constantly, a one-off payment wouldn't be enough. Link to comment
Soapurb
I'm talking about mod development. As for servers thats actually quite easy, servers don't cost much, the mod will be popular (so there will be many), and it's not too hard to find someone to sponcer a server for free. Large phone companies quite often do it. Telstra Game Arena etc. Link to comment

And don't joke Cray, you probably would get hella donations Link to comment
Trust
i like y00 ransom your H0T!!1 now about Cray's payment, I also think that if you put some paypal button on the site "to support our developers" you will get money, there are always weirdo's who do such things. But IF you do that, Rockstar has any right to sue you, because you make money by editing something they made. So don't do it man Link to comment
OpiuM.
nope, not true, donations have nothing on that, however selling the EXE for profit does. Link to comment
Trust
ow, didn't know that, I don't know that much about the law and such Link to comment

In fact, they specifically ask not to be given donations. i like y00 ransom your H0T!!1 /me waits eagerly for Ransom's reply... Link to comment
