As the release of Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas 1.2 draws closer, we have decided to hold an official beta test tomorrow, Tuesday, November 29th, 2011 @ 19:00 GMT (see time zone converter for that time in your time zone).

MTA:SA 1.2 brings the following:

  • Stability improvements
  • Custom weapon stats
  • Vehicle variants
  • Bandwidth improvements
  • Database improvements

See this wiki page for a more detailed changelog.

Official beta test IRC channel will be the usual (#mta-pubtest @ irc.gtanet.com) and it will be open for public about an hour or two before the test starts. In order to participate in the test, you must join this IRC channel as the beta build download link(s), as well as server details, will be released there. You can click here to automatically join the IRC channel.

P.S. Remember to follow our Twitter @ http://twitter.com/#!/MTAQA as well as this topic for more info!

These need to be tested to evade major problems after the improvements and new features, look into 1.1, there seemed to be no issue and it finished being a trash for some users (for me it's a brilliant project).

Is anyone able to explain why 1.2's released is considered to be 'drawing closer', when according to the roadmap it is only 11% complete? Even 1.1.2's completion is just 51%, far from complete, assuming the roadmap is accurate.

Why is this being pushed through so quickly?

There are plenty of important features intended for 1.2 which are still incomplete (some of which were originally intended for 1.0 and 1.1), and some issues for 1.1.x which are unresolved, according to the roadmap. This seems a bit rushed, and really doesn't appear to contain the same quantity & quality of additions as previous MTA releases did. Why not give it the development time it deserves?

Thanks for pointing that out. We will reduce the roadmap requirements ASAP.

It's partly due to significant changes being in place, and the large number of features that were simultaneously packaged with 1.1 meant that months were spent fixing them till 1.1 was considered fully stable. Unlike 1.0, we no longer have a strong QA infrastructure to ensure a perfect stability of the mod - so longer development time means a longer amount of time something goes untested. If you leave it longer and introduce more fixes and features, you can get steam blowing out of holes in all directions. We're trying to opt for a faster release cycle where new features can be delivered quickly without having a major impact on stability.

Nevertheless, you raise a valid point and we should work on trying to make our intentions for the next couple of releases more conspicious.
