orappa Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Microsoft have released the name of their next OS - Windows Vista ("Longhorn" was only a codename). Isn't that just the stupidest name you've ever heard? They've also set up a site for it: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/default.mspx I particularly like the way that the picture emphasises just how long we've got to wait for it to be released (late 2006). I hate to think how long it would take if they hadn't cut out certain features.
Blade1941 Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Asta la vista babe! eh i think Longhorn sounds much more better than Vista, there is a corp called vista in the US ( i think ) so this might be a court sake of the name.

Well, Microsoft sued Lindows (a Linux variant) for sounding too much like Windows so they deserve it in my opinion.
Vicer/Spitfire Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Windows Vista doesnt sound too bad in my opinion. I like it.
Blade1941 Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Windows Vista doesnt sound too bad in my opinion. I like it. Do you have XP or Vista? no i have Vista.. Doesn't sound so good, Longhorn sound better.
[ULK]BioHazarD Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Windows Vista doesnt sound too bad in my opinion. I like it. Someone told me that Vista means chicken in Latvian
njr1489 Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 I don't care about the name, I just want it lol. We have to wait about a year which will suck, I thought it was coming 2005.
littlewhitey Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Someone told me that Vista means chicken in Latvian That may have been me, if you were in the IRC when it was first mentioned
orappa Posted July 24, 2005 Author Posted July 24, 2005 Dictionary definition: a pleasing view, esp. one seen though a long, narrow opening Long narrow opening?
Moderators HAZJ Posted July 24, 2005 Moderators Posted July 24, 2005 Like mp5 said before, I don't care about the name. After tested the lastest betas of Longhorn I just can say this will be a good OS. We'll see the Beta 1 of Vista on 3rd August.
Scruffy Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Maybe it won't be as unstable as all the rest of Microsoft's Operating Systems.
Leviathan Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 nah, I don't like the name... windows vista... that just sounds super weird... longhorn was a better name
paul527 Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 i thought that Microsoft wouldnt come out with another OS for a long while, i though they would be putting more work into xp, mabye i was wrong ... im afraid that my XP will be left in the dust... outdated and slow compared to the new Vista... i hope not.
orappa Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 (edited) Isn't that the whole point of a new version - to replace the old one? But anyway, they're releasing some aspects of Vista for XP users - IE 7, the file system, DirectX, Avalon (I think, or it might be Aero). Edit: Btw, Windows releases tend to get slower and slower (although technology gets faster and faster so no-one really notices) - just try running Windows 95 on your PC (if you can) and watch how fast it goes. Leviathan Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Indeed I have run win 98 and XP on the same pc and 98 was a lot faster...
andeh Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 if u want to beta test it, theese are the prices http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/subscribers/
Vicer/Spitfire Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I'd rather go on a holiday with that kind of money
Scruffy Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Who would want to beta test Mircrosoft software? That would have more bugs than the faulty crap they release to the public.
