Hash and encrypting have a lot of differences. MTA uses SHA256 as stated by Callum. SHA256 is a hash and AES is encryption. AES can be decrypted but not SHA256. SHA256 must be brute forced. In MTA password system, there's a salt encryption also. Jusonex posted that somewhere.
