  1. *respect goes up a notch for KFG* y'know, that IS a good idea, good thinking! i doubt it would be very difficult either, its not a real complex animation.
  2. how discouraging. its not like you have to go out of your way to "support" mods, release a client with no-crc checking, that only works against other clients like it, and tell us to use mods "at our own risk". you dont have to be nazi's about it.. If the future of mta lies soley in Vice city, and you dont care if we stop playing, i just might do that. i hope gtat gets better and fast, cause you guys REALLY need some competition.

oh yea, i remember reading that actually, it had alot of cursing, but i got the point from it. its a good point too, if someone knows how to hack into your work, and make their bitch, and you dont want them too, it makes sense to ask how they did it, and maybe have them help you protect it better. after all, who else who would know the security flaws better than a hacker?
  4. "their work" consists of the mta client, scm's, and server tools, none of which are modified through (legit) modding (if your modding what came with mta, then it is cheating). So, when a mod is in gta, its modding GTA, not Mta; their work isnt touched, or "butchered" as the new fad apparently is...
  5. no, its not ok. mta has it implemented so you cant mod your game at all, even on a private sever. sucks doesnt it?

your LAST post? it shows this one as your first... anyway, for those of us who missed it, what was your last post about?
  7. I disagree... hey, trust me, i disagree too, but its in the EULA you agreed to by installing mta. im just quoting here. the basic idea behind mta seems to go like this.. "You can play OUR mod, WHEN we say, HOW we say, IF we say you can. If you disagree with us and change something in the game to your liking you are a CHEATER!" peace
  8. ALL mods are cheating, regardless of the gamemode. of course, if your in stuntmode, and you modify your car to go faster than your competitor, and he didnt, it IS a form of cheating. or if you add a jump to your game, thats not in theirs, i guess you have some strange advantage. you know, you could be going off a jump they dont have.

eAi, i misunderstood your post, i thought you meant it wasnt possible at all. yes, doing this INGAME, could be difficult, but its the fact that replaceable skins COULD be made a feature, is what im saying, just do it before you start a game. im a sure a few sites wouldnt mind hosting extra skins you could / dl. the game could check the filename of the skins your using, and the other players, and prompt you to go to the site if you wanted one, click no and play on.
  10. Thats it though, you nailed it right on the head, that "chaos in a closed perimeter" is what im looking for! i didnt count the vcc spawnpoints, because they're random, the spawns for everyone else are either fixed, or just one of 2, so you know where they'll be. if i choose a mexican or a sailor, i KNOW ill be on the 2nd island. Ransom, the barrier in that pic is ONE object. not many stacked on each other, and it keeps out any vehicle but the heli, since its about 20ft high, and wider than the bridge. start a new game, drive to a bridge, see for yourself. also, unless your on the mta dev team, and your not, id rather not hear any comments from you on either the gta engine's limitations or what the mta team has intended to do, unless you can back it up with topics, or posts BY the mta team. mrbump: this isnt me getting upset, im defending my point of view, agressively. go find the first post i made when that censor-thing was first introduced to mta, THAT was me being upset . stay on the island by myself? ive actually done that. if i dont want to battle on one island or another, i simply will not.
  11. and what did we learn in today's lesson? that you ppl, including the mta team, thanks mr bump, need lessons in space management. there are shitloads of things to do on each island without requiring the players to be spread over a 3-square mile area. my original idea was to separate by zones, ie little haiti, washinton beach, northpoint, etc, thank god i didnt add THAT into the poll. some of you, i dont know if your reading the posts in their entirety, or your eyes just fall on the words you dont like, whatever the reason, i think some large, very important, parts of my posts have been overlooked: Your all acting like i want to replace the main gamemode, i dont, i think it needs to be kept, but i see no reason why the 2-islands cant be implemented as an additional OPTION. the ppl who want to play in the FULL map could just choose a server thats running that map, which by the sounds of things, would be alot of them. others like me, could choose one thats not, so im not sure i see the problem here. ive even volunteered to do the brunt of the work for you (gathering locations and player / weapon / vehicle / barrier spawns points, im not sure how your multi is implemented into the scm). the 2nd thing i think is being mistaken, is that i want to actually delete part of the map. fuck no, im not insane, i merely mean putting these back in place and adding any additional ones that might be necessary: http://gregval.phpwebhosting.com/uploads/sgbarrier.jpg special thanks to anyone who actually read my posts completely, understood them, and maybe, just maybe, felt like i do.
  12. well what did you do before you unlocked the other islands in single player? there's still PLENTY of room for driving around, it doesnt require a whole city...
  13. *lob* well its not *giving* cash to the vets, they earned it by killing other ppl. i play ut2k3, i suck at it, if i were to play more often, id probably be better, but i dont, so i get owned by the veterans. thats inherent to any multiplayer game, not just mta. besides, i didnt say this would be the primary playmode, i said it would separate, there would still be regular deathmatching fi they want more "practice". damn, im really defending an idea that isnt even mine...
  14. wee, this is like volleyball.... if i had to choose, id say more stability, but i dont have to choose besides that, im willing to personally implement the island restricted Scm's, ive made my own maps to replace vice, re-zoning, setting up the roadblocks, adding weapons and vehicles to the map, creating geometry, col files, you name it, ive done it, alot, its mad easy. i covered the heli's before, there's 3 options. option1: keep the limited amount of them in, there's only 5 or 6, what are they gonna do, fly over to empty chunks of land with no other players, weapons or bikes? whats the point? they can fly in circles until their hearts content as far as im concerned. option 2: have ONE heli. the lucky person who gets it without dying has the freedom to go wherever he wants. see option 1 if he flys over the roadblocks. option 3: take the helis out. problem solved. option 4: make it so the heli's physically cant leave the area - good idea Necro! anymore issues to address? ive got the whole idea sorted in my head already...
  15. you again? erm, anyway, idling? how so? you dont (wouldnt) make money by having ppl stand around doing nothing, have the client boot them after theve been idling for so long (<5 mins?) . just like any other game, ppl who've been playing longer (vets) have the advantage, not everything can be fair. solution: play more often. but alas i fear the system wouldnt work for another reason, say you get lots of cash on one server, and switch to another, but your stats are saved on the old one? you would need either a master server the cash could be saved at, that can be accessed only by you, or else have the stats saved on your local hd, but that opens the stats up to hacking, so it would also have to be governed by the crc checking / encryption. Saving shit adds a whole new element to MTA that would have to be carefully considered, and i dont know if the pros outweigh the cons.
  16. i did read your post, seems i wasnt clear enough... Ok, assuming they DID take advantage of the first island, and they added spawn points there, and riddled it with vehicles and weaponry, so both islands are equal, i still say the map is too big, and should be cut into sections, which is the entire point of this poll. The point of the game is to kill, while in vice, i dont see how any purpose of it was defeated. the full map option would still be available, just choose a server thats running it with my solution, the admins who chose only one island would have the greater combat per person ratio, since they could still have the same amount of players, and a greater number of vehicles and weapons, but in a more compact zone. Besides that, is the added advantage of no island-loading once your in, and could improve gameplay somewhat. christ, how do you guys play, i can stay on the upper or lower half of ONE island for over an hour killing ppl! use the space you have. duck behind buldings, run around things, actually try running a bit instead of using a vehicle, look for good ambush spots, USE the map!
  17. i think the point is that you COULD get money for killing somebody, and after you got so much cash (incentive to play better) it could unlock / enable more features, ie; better weapons. just a fun way to put the money system in gta to a use in mta. stuntmode has cash, but no killing (guns), and the cash doesnt really help you. you can get cash in deathmatch in downtown, by the VCJ, or whatever its called (one of the tall buildings, very far north), take out the parking meters, you can get like $50.
  18. wow, apparently you've made nearly 700 posts, without actually READING any of the existing ones. well, youve been wrong before, and youll be wrong again. the mta team HAS permission from R* to make mta, and the features they want to add to mta, including, but not limited to, some map modding. what im suggessting is no more complex than the stunt server maps, just differt objects in differnt locations, instead of a ramp, its a barrier, instead of being in the middle of a road, it blocks a bridge or 3. and im not campaining for "less features" (who said anything about taking something out? and playing on ALL the map isnt a "feature" in the first place), im campaining for alternative map scenarios and spawn points. maps are shortened all the time for multiplayer scenarios in games, this isnt uncommon at all.

what engine... the GTA: Vice City game engine, or the MTA server/client engine? uh, actually its entirely possible. the player actor skins are stored as txd's (texture dictionaries for those of you who dont mod) the extra skins that you downloaded and and want to use could be stored in a different folder, and mta could just look in that folder instead of the gta3.img (holds the main models and textures), for certain skins. they already use a similar method for loading their "mta.scm" and "mtas.scm", so it COULD work. the trouble would be in managing the skins (who has what skin) through the mta client, but i dbout it would be beyond their (mta team) capabilities.
  20. The boss idea could be interesting as its own mode, maybe the person with so much cash, after a set amount of time is declared the "winner", but then youd have to have everyone start at the same time, so no one could just "jump in", atleast until the next round.
  21. "censored for privacy" ....... soo......your protecting this fellow who may or may not be cheating? that makes you as bad as him. i mean, whats the point? "yea, i saw a cheater, but i cant tell you who it was" give us a name, or go away.
  22. DeathB, Do you know why no one goes to the first island? because it has.....what.......2 spawn points? the cops and robbers. and the robbers spawn close to the bridge to downtown, so thats just a hop away. since everyone else spawns on the 2nd island, and everyone wants action right now, they flock to each other, even if i spawn as a cop in washington beach, i have to drive to the 2nd island to shoot somebody, just because everyone else spawns there, and they're fighting each other on that island. One thing i liked more about mta .1 (yes, .1) was that i started in northbeach, or close to it, and you know what ppl did then? they stayed on the first island, when i played hardly anyone when to the 2nd one. the mansion was about as far west as people *typically* went. but maybe thats just my experience...
  23. lol, yes swimming with sharks in THAT scenario would suck, but its not what i said (do roads like that even exist in the normal vice? i didnt think so...), i just mean put the barriers back on the bridges so they're inaccessbile, and then move all the pickups to one island side. i dont mean to ACTUALLY DELETE any pieces of land, just restrict it, and the barriers im talking about are already ingame, they just need ipl coordinates. then repeat for the other island, and have the person setting up the server, choose which one to play on. and have the full map as an option as well, just like now, so you have 3 choices: -Full Map -Island 1, Washinton Beach Northbeach, beach, Prawn Island, etc -Island 2, Downtown, Airport, Little Havana, Haiti, etc starfish island, always open if you really think helicopters are in issue, they could be removed, or just put a couple on the map. the point of deathmatching is to shoot other players, not fly around giggling. thats what single player is for. personally, i used heli's for transportation over long distances, if just the one island is available, i don't think they're as necessary.
  24. i would actually rather have 20+ ppl on ONE island, as opposed to the whole map, just so the action is more intense. besides, as you may have noticed, alot of the time the limit is 10 12 or 16 ppl, thats less ppl, spread over a greater distance which makes the game more boring, for me. now if you had 60+ players (yea, right) i wouldnt mind keeping the map full size.
  25. Vice city is, imho, too big for a maximum of 24 or 32 players, alot of time is spent needlessly driving around, from one island to the other. Solution? Chop it in half. like at the begining of a new game, the other islands are restricted, bring those barriers back so the admin can choose to play either full map (current), or select one of the 2 major islands. Then if one of the halves are selected, it could load an scm that has weapons, cars and spawn points just on the island that was chosen. now you can have all 80 cars closer together, same with the weapons and player spawns, this means getting around quicker and more intense combat. helicopters could be a problem, but no solution is perfect. since there's only like 5, i say fuckit, let em fly out of the border if they want. if they want to go to part of the map with no cars weapons or ppl, thats their decision. the last issue i can think of is starfish island, which i say just leave open for all maps.
