* Update 3: Now sends us some more data that I forgot to include initially :|. Probably the last updates for some time. *

Ok, we've decided that we'd like to do somthing about all those crashes you have, so I whipped up (thanks to Kyeman for the original base) an error reporting tool. I haven't had much chance of testing it, but I'd like you lot to have a go...

Download here: http://www.opencoding.net/ereport/MTA-ERT-13.zip

Please use the 'Add Notes' feature to tell us more about the error, it makes our life much easier!

The readme explains what the tool does.

## MTA Error Report Tool ##

This program is an optional program that will submit errors you have while playing MTA to the MTA team to help fix bugs for future versions. This program replaces the standard GTA3 and Vice City error message boxes while playing MTA, and removes them tottally when playing normally.

Instalation: Run either (or both) InstallVC.exe or InstallGTA3.exe to install the tool.

Removal: Delete the file "MTAErrorReport.asi" from your GTA3 and/or Vice City folder, or run the "uninstall.exe" program in the game folder.

Privacy - Whats reported?

We report the following information:

- The address of the crash

- Your operating system

- Your system language

- The game you were using (GTA3/VC)

- The version of the game you were using

- The ammount of time you had been using it for when the crash happened

- Information on what was being executed in the mission scripts at the time

We do not check, or recieve any personal information from you when you sumbit an error log. You can remove the error submit tool at any time, as detailed above.

Many thanks for using this tool to help further the development of MTA.

The MTA Team

In case you're wondering what to expect (and hope not) to see, here is the dialog:

We'd like as many people on as many systems to install this so that we can get a wide view of what causes the crashes. Please don't worry about it affecting your game or your system, it shouldn't. If it does, tell me.

After I copied that file across, whenever I try to run MTA:VC, it gets past the title movies and comes up with the loading screen. I then hear a "ding" and alt + tab out to see a message box saying "The required file 'scm_vice.ini' could not be found." Clicking "ok" on the box closes VC.

As soon as I delete the .asi file, the problem goes away and MTA runs as normal.

Oops... I've just noticed what it says in your opening post. It doesn't say that in the readme included in the zip file.

I will gladly help the MTA team spotting those crashes :)

as i crash much more than my MTA friends, this should give u some useful info.

going to play MTA in lan party this weekend so maybe there will be some crashes reported that have to do with the network system.

If you get a "missing file" error when gta starts, make sure you have the files scm_vice.ini and scm_gta3.ini in your game folder(s). If you don't have them in the original zip file, download it again, they're now included.

Sorry about that :)

hm. You've got the file MTAErrorReport.asi in your vc folder? Is that your normal one? My normal one is much smaller. I have a feeling we don't capture those messages...

this is not so important, but the installers they install the VC and GTAIII scm i both game dirs, also i dont know if its the same for u guys, but my default GTA III folder is named "GTAIII" and the installer installs it in a new folder called "Grand Theft Auto III." not a big priority :)

Ok, there seems to be some strange issue going on here. It works fine in single player, but (for me) refuses to work in MTA... I'm looking into it.

I thought that message might be something to do with Visual Studio because it mentioned debugging (and I remember that it modified some of my exception dialogs when I had Windows Me), so I uninstalled it but still the same message. Most of the time though (without this utility), I get the Windows "Send Error Report" dialog.

Also, Scorp, I found that button-mashing whilst waiting to spawn works quite often :)

ok installed 1.1.

made it crash on purpose, sitting as passenger on bike with no driver :P game minimized (great to get rid of that windows window) but the MTA error Reporter dialog didn't appear, i guess its because this is a VC bug, and not MTA. So it gets ignored :)

I tried that and the error reporter came up with no problems. And thanks, eAi, I was going to suggest that it minimised the window. :)

It should have come up... Are you sure it wasn't sitting in the taskbar with GTA?

I' wondering wheter the errors aren't caused by a memory leak in the server. I ran the linux version on a seperate system, and after running for 3 weeks, it used all available RAM and swap. Some people crashed every 30 secs. After restarting the server this was decreased to once an hour. I don't know if your program is able to detect problems that are cuased by strange packets from the server, but I think it's worth investigating.
