EdwardTobia Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 i have a computer with LinuxMandrake v10 on it and i downloaded the Linux Server, i double clicked it to execute it but nothing come up do enyone know why??? thnx
MAD_BOY Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 omg, learn linux.... open it with a terminal example: you are logged in as EdwardTobia, you open a terminal lets say you extracted the server into /home/EdwardTobia/mtaserver/ then you type in the terminal: ./home/EdwardTobia/mtaserver/MTA0.4.1-server (i think MTA0.4.1-server was the name of it, if its not, change that to the right name) then the server starts with the default settings you can change the settings by editing the config.cfg (or whatever its name is, its a .cfg file that's in the package) with your favorite text editing tool
OpiuM. Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 thats why i tell everyone to get xandros. lmfao. also, in the console, wouldnt it be 'home/eddy/Desktop/MTASERVER/0.4.1server' with the ' things? lol.
MAD_BOY Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 no, the ' thingys aren't needed, atleast, i never used them in any distro, and it always worked
Dawgy Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Open your terminal. cd /home mkdir mta cd mta wget link to tar here tar -zxf name of tar cd name of tar screen ./MTAServer0.4.1 Ctrl a+d
MAD_BOY Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 you just gave him useless stuff, he allready extracted it =/
EdwardTobia Posted August 28, 2004 Author Posted August 28, 2004 lol well im new to linux d00ds as opium knows lol il try out sum of the stuffs u told me now lol nice 1 guys
Slothman Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 now, does anyone know for a fact that the linux server is more stable (or vice versa) i know all us unix people will just outright assume it's better on linux, but has anyone actually tested linux vs win32?

orappa Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 It all depends on the program really. A badly-written program will be unstable on both operating systems.
OpiuM. Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 message to ALL noobies. ge XandrOS, it is easy to set up, and it is deh pwnage. done. lol

Linux also seems to be less on memory usage.
Slothman Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 yes, we all know linux is lighter on resources, but im asking if people have noticed significant changes, like less user crashes (when all users crash at once) or maybe better syncing. ps:mandrake has the best install, so damn easy (and a kickass partition tool)
OpiuM. Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 did you ever try XandrOS? noone has tried it and is telling me its worse then anything else. the reason i got it was to have somin nobody else had btw. (try it, it has one of the best partition tools.)
