Nutz
The Speedometer has turned out to be very useful for flying the Dodo. Another basic flight instrument that would be just as useful if not more is an altimiter. Nothing fancy like height above terrain, just a simple dump of the current Z axis position. This should be trivial to add to the speedo function. The altimiter would be fun for cars too, especially for stunting. Another flight instrument that would be useful is an artificial horizon. I'm not sure how difficult that would be but it would make flying through fog much safer. Link to comment

xerox
i dont know if the game actually records the height in real-time... just the mex height Would be nice if its possible *that weird intercom sound*This is your captain speaking, we are currently crashing into a helicopter at.... you get the point Link to comment
Black Dragon
no it records the z axis of the viechle in.. uh... @3 if im not mistaken. artificial horizon? might be possible with all 3 viecle axis' ( @4 - @6 if im not wrong.). but i think you can just look a bit better at the screen . hell, if were at it, why not even a vertical speed indicator? or even turn coordinates? maybe even slap some degrees on the radar! suggestion: do all of the above - and put them as a third click of speedometer button! instrumental flight anyone? orappa
Are you a flight sim fan by any chance? GTA's about fun, not accuracy to the nth degree. I think a lot of the things you are suggesting would alienate the majority of the audience, who just want to have fun. Link to comment
Black Dragon
fan? im obsessed *got an almost perfect 97 profile* first thing in the army - heli pilot test (dont like jets as much as helis ^^) Link to comment

I think a lot of the things you are suggesting would alienate the majority of the audience, who just want to have fun. Alienate? They're tools that you can choose to use or not. The Dodo is the only thing that flies in gta3 mta. Adding some basic instruments not only make it easier to pilot in certain conditions, it also helps us learn more about the Dodo physics itself. The better we fly the Dodo the more possibilities for gameplay open up. How about a gangwar round where one team is in a location only accessable by dodo? Or a 'Dodo Turismo' mode? As more people get to be good pilots I expect to see "dodo taxi" service as well. I'm still working on smooth controlled landings and low altitude flight. The speedometer has helped immensely with this but an altimiter would help even more. The artificial horizon would only be useful in fog, but that would enable dodo-friendly servers to run all weather modes instead of sun only. Just to be clear, when I say altimiter I mean a simple z-axis readout, noting more. Link to comment
orappa
Oh, I didn't have a problem with the altimeter - it was just the other suggestions. Link to comment

trx
We're now able to display the current z value along with current speed when you're flying a dodo. So this can probably be included in the next patch. thanks to TbM2K and CyQ Link to comment
Slothman
that's great! then i'll be able to see how fast i fall every time i fly. (i suck at dodo at the moment) Link to comment
eAi
If anyone is interested, I could knock this up into an external app in about 10 minutes, I'm not sure if it'd be considered cheating though? Thoughs? eAi Link to comment
Slothman
i think the rules are, if an mta dev puts it out, it's not really a cheat i say go for it!, but is it possible to do the angle meter as well, to make that tool extra useful Link to comment

Thoughs?eAi Cheating? If it's available for everyone to download from the official site then by definition it's not cheating. Especially it it's just a pre-release for a feature likely to be included in the next version. Link to comment
