Does it really matter that much of what OS your server is running on . I know its more stable but will the speed change .... (if you have a fast computer already) ?

Well its obvious that for running a server linux is better, but as you said you dont know linux , i would go with win server 2003 .So win server 2003 gets my vote, i havent tried it yet , but you have no linux knowledgeso go with it.

Linux is most stable and takes less ram. But u gotta learn how to use it

Win2003 is the most stable from what i heard and Runs like a normal Windows computer, not much needs to be learned to use it.

Winxp pro is just.. windows. stable enough and easy to use.

xp home is kinda like xp pro for hosting games. i find it less stable but i might b wrong. and xp home isnt meant to be a server os, just a home pc user os

for a client side game like MTA, it's more about bandwidth anyway, i don't think you'll see much of a difference between 2k3 and linux, now using xp home or pro then you'd probably see a difference, a bad one

altho i've used windows 2k pro, it ran ok as a webserver, dunno about as a game server tho

Why not dual boot Linux and Win2k3? Use win2k3 until you learn Lunix and then switch to that to see if there's any significant difference. I'd say steer clear of any XP OS when it comes to using your PC as a serv cause they eat up more memory and that as we all know is the biggest prob win OS's have.

sounds like a good idea, yeah xp and it's cutesy images and unnecessary processes , blech imho you can probably survive with w2k3, i have (i too said i'd learn linux...4 years later i haven't even dl'ed a distro lmao)

lol w2k3 shouldn't crash unless you set it up wrong, i mean, i run php, mysql, perl, and asp.net and mine never crashes lol...just my pos verizon internet who took too many clients in the area, now we battle for ips like an old fucking aol 56k server

granted i've never tried a game server because i have squat for upstream, do they crash extremely often, or is it more due to cheaters?
