Server Browser List

I know its been mentioned before, but does anyone know the solution for getting the Server Browser list to correctly display the names?

Mine looks like this;

CIMG4085s.jpg

(Excuse my ancient bendy CRT screen!)

As you can see it does list some servers, and their pings, if I hit refresh, occasionally the "Couldn't connect to serverlist" message displays like this.

The strange thing is that is used to work fine 4 -6 months ago, but now it doesn't and the only change in that time has been an upgrade of the firewall (Zonealarm), but if I switch that off all together it makes no difference anyway. (I have a hardware firewall in the Linksys router). Yesterday I uninstalled GTA SA and MTA and then re-installed both to no avail. BTW I am running GTA SA v1.0 Europe version and MTA v1.1.1.

Nope all the settings are as they were. Are there any particular settings required for MTA?

>>and btw, ever heard of the button printscreen?<<

Uh yes, but thought the game would have re-mapped it. ...Ok so F11 works instead!

Nope, makes no difference, can press it several times and the list refreshes, but no names are displayed and I cant connect to anything.

I havent yet tried a valid server IP address and Quick connect. Could someone suggest one?

Hello, thanks for the help.

All of the following;

gta_sa.exe,

MTA Setup.exe

MTA Client.exe

Multi Theft Auto.exe

are given access through Zone Alarm.

I have also tried switching the Routers' firewall off and left Zone Alarm running. Still no names.

I have tried connecting directly today using Quick Connect using Hedning's recommended server - and it works fine!

Thanks to driver2 for the Current games list, I may end up printing this page out and using the addresses to Quick connect to.

You don't even need MTA Setup.exe after you've installed, so I don't know why it would need Internet access for the server list to work :?

As for printing the server list, that would be pointless as servers are constantly being added/deleted and the player counts are always changing every minute. You could print the list off now and within 10 seconds you could guarantee that it has already changed.

I'm not sure if we ever found out what caused this problem, but I believe GameMonitor offers mtasa:// links that you can click on to directly connect to servers.

I had this problem a little while ago. For me, it was a bad NIC (or bad NIC drivers). But the NIC problem got so bad that I ended up having to reformat my computer :shock:

Anyway, since the reformat, the server list works wonderfully.

Thanks for all your help as always.

Gabi's comment about NIC's is interesting, mines an ancient Genius Realtek chipset based card, that was rescued from another computer when a ribbon cable shorted out to it and burnt a circuit board track, which was then re-soldered! So its probably high time I threw it out and got something a little better and more up to date. Although it has served me well over the years!

The NIC is often overlooked. I remember that a couple of games would freeze and disconnect me from the internet when they tried to connect to a server. I got a new NIC and they worked just fine.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I have replaced my old NIC (actually when I opened the case I found I had a POS Belkin card in there instead, the ancient Genius/Realtek NIC had been swapped out years ago).

I have now replaced it with a Dlink card and the Server Browser List is working fine. Cheers!

So I guess it was down to either a flaky card or drivers.
