Very impressed...but

Hey guys,

I am extremely impressed by the work which you guys have done with that game to make it multiplayer, I wish there were more people like you who would make alot of non-multiplayer games multiplayer. But when I downloaded the files I was sooo happy to be able to play with my friends on a server that was like Single Player (People, Cars, Weapons, etc...). But when I installed it I saw that you guys had removed all of the items from the maps other than a few cars here and there over the island. Like I said I am very impressed! but I still want something in the game that adds to the excitement without having to get 24 people to play on the sever. Is there ANY way possible to use the old files to host out a multiplayer game?

but then again think about this, all it is is a map with scripts that have lil people on it and a few cars driving around, THERE HAS TO BE some way to link into the files already there. Example: A few years ago when Medal of Honor was first released some guys got together and made a shortcut you could use to link into single player maps WITH the AI included with all the other lil scripts like artillery and stuff. Now, if they can do it to MOH and several other games I've seen, Example again: Alien vs Predator 2, created a program called X-Coop which alouds the user to HOST out the single player maps. THERE HAS TO BE A WAY.

yeah, SA-MP (another San Andreas multiplayer mod) was going to create a co-op like you described before it was shut down, complete with pedestrians, various ai, sp-like missions, etc., using a client based system. it's not possible with a dedicated server based system like MTA is using.

It's possible... just difficult.

AI would have to be fully controlled by that one server, which can't know how they react without having GTA executed.

Rockstar is doing co-op with peds and cars, I guess we can leave it to them for future GTA games if the LCS co-op is a sucess...

GTA:LCS multiplayer will have AI peds and cars? where have you heard this?

  • MTA Team

Having a full live world in GTA would create a lot of challanges.

- you will get a lot of traffic since you would have to sync not a couple of players but hundreds of cars and pedestrians.

- you either need to control the AI server based (that would require the server to interact with the map) or clinet-based (where you have to make sure only one client is controlling a certain area)

- rewriting missions or creating new ones to make sure they are suited for multiplayer

- ...

offcourse, they're certainly not going to focus on deathmatch. and in the end, they made GTA so :P

Actually they have, "Liberty City Survivor" its called. Who knows? They could bring multiplayer to the new GTA games, which I hope they do. Then other mod teams can create multiplayer for the ones without, so they don't have to multi task with 2 or 3 games at a time then stop development for a while on both games.

Where does it say there will be AI peds and vehicles? I just see info on the three different game modes.
Now that multiplayer is out there's all kinds of things we'd love for you elaborate on. Are there any particularly cool technical aspects you could share with us? Why six players?

GH: Six players seems to be the sweet spot for us. It's enough players that you can get some seriously good competition going on and split into teams that are more than just two players each. On the other hand it's also a good number for us to implement multiplayer without having to sacrifice the things that make Grand Theft Auto great: an open, living world in a city that is populated by pedestrians, traffic and other ambient life. Any more than 6 and we would have had to pull those aspects of the game, a compromise we weren't willing to make.

No, I wasn't asking for proof, I was asking where in the link he gave me it says that there will be AI.
