cos GTA 1 & 2 had built in multiplayer support. Anyway the gta 3 series only has 36 slots for peds apparantly and each player uses a slot so if there are 32 players you can only have 4 peds anywhere which seems a bit small

Windows 98 Compatibility, is it there in MTA VC 0.2?

hehe, searched for "memory issues" but only got this thread and another irrelavant one, oh well.. searching for win98 or something... too many posts, and not much about why it exactly isn't compatible (memory/network/winsock whatever).. anyway I'm not complaining! Maybe better just looking to buy win XP -

I'm using win 98, infact MTA seems to work to a certain degree but I get lots of timeouts and lag (getting car "jacked" whilst jumping over a river, then falling into the river lol ) and using cars for a few mins then its somehow jacked and someone else is driving in it... thus I don't think most of the stuff I do actually happens in the game. enlighten me with these "memory issues" what exactly is the problem with win98 / ME that could cause these corruptions? -
it crashes in win98 too, but I know you can't alt-tab out of it because the keyboard freezes too.

I don't see what the advantages of a wall hack in GTA 3 will do though, it will just be crap for those that use it, seeing things through walls, will probably make them lag + think there are cars in front of them that are in walls. Tbh you've already got a sortof wall hack with third person view anyway since you can peer round corners without anyone seeing you.

I know there are client side hax around but you can't teleport with them or jetpack with them, only aim with them and thats it , I guess that aint such a big problem in gta

maybe the profile can store what stunts theyve done etc, like in the player status window also I was thinking maybe server admins could own buildings , like they start there and can store cars in their garages etc.. oh yea, and have cheaters locked up in a police jail if they join (if teleport cheats dont work of course lol or there would be no point )

sonner or later i'd hope a lot of stuff to be done server side since anything on the client allows you to cheat if most of its done on the client. you can make movement server side as well which can remove the jetpack trainer problem. I'm familiar with Half-Lifes engine, and how it does most of its netcode, it's one of the best netcodes I believe since no trainers have any effect even without anti-cheat programs.

I was thinking... Having to set up a profile on mta website to play, the profile stores everything in your status info, like the money you have and weapons since last visit or something, or perhaps this should be a server thing, but one profile must be made on the website, with username, password and id number or something.

If you are using an analogue controller make sure it's on analogue mode -
Wait untill player prediction is done in the next MTA, should smooth out movements, even if there is little lag it's a bit jittery when players move. edit: I am also guessing you are hosting the server since its smooth on your end so the player prediction thing is probably the prob (can't really do anything till next version k )

Korven, better sort out that avatar !! wtf man, look at the size of that thing ...!!! admins, should add some new options in avatar settings for size in pixels for avatars

The_nothing, that's the typical unhandled exception i think everyone more or less gets after a while using MTA:VC, i got the exact same one, same error & address etc, must be just one thing that's causing it then?

okay here's what I've found out while having some of these bugs/crashes: -------------TIME OUT PROBLEM-------------- Possible fix for Time out problem: Try messing with the frame limiter On/OFF, much smoother off anyway I managed to play without getting disconnected by timing out without losing connection. (Except I crashed instead lol after a while) But now its doing it again.. If you don't know how to put it on/off, it's in the Display Options. Also don't go in servers that have way too many players for your bandwidth!! But this even happens to me sometimes when only 4 players on or something (I have 150k connection) My connection just stops, doesn't exactly time out... since the servers still up and I can connect to it again ok. Just seems to time out when I start the game but stays connected when the game isnt actually running... -------------CRASHING PROBLEM--------------- Possible reason for CRASHING When you are looking at parts of the other island? This seemed to happen when I was on the bridge and I crashed, also when I was nearby the coast near the other island! oh also, things like bloodring and dirtring always crash a lot too, i'm guesing they are on the other island or something too, theres something fishy goin on oh yeah, might want to try putting the draw distance down a bit (in display options again) with draw distance at minimum i managed to run in the bloodring without crashing. bah still mamaged to crash just when loading the game!!! Here's something for you coders! (lots of 'bleh' below) crash in gta-vc.exe gta-vc starts in memory: 0x00400000 - 0x00B63FFF unhandled exception c0000005 at address 0045496e if i'm right the crash is offset "5496e" from the beginning of the program.. looks like a big call stack or something, lots of stuff on the call stack. I am wondering that what is wrong is simply an incompatibility with the windows code you are using for the MTA project, perhaps incompatible winsock programming etc. I'd read the MSDN library on compatibility issues with the networking code.
