  1. Dropping the darkred would probably be a good idea altogether...
  2. GTA:SA is built up by models, the whole of san andreas is split into models. Jumps, houses, bridges, roads etc. The map editor let's you place duplicates of these models anywhere you want in san andreas (you can't remove a house that is in singleplayer). So for instance you if you decide you want to make a race map, and start placing some checkpoints and realize "I want to jump over that building", then you can just go use the menu on top of the screen to find a jump model, and place it in front of the house so that you can jump over it. There's some documentation on the map editor, just let me find it. Will problably clear some questions.
  3. 1) MTA:SA as it is today is just racing (only vehicles, no running etc.), in the form of doing your best to take every checkpoint until the finish. There are also maps where the creator has not created any checkpoints at all, if there is respawn then it's a freeroam map where people do pretty much what they want. On freeroam maps you can't win, just have fun playing around. There are those without checkpoints and respawn, where the only way to win is to kill everyone else, by bashing them, pushing them into water, etc. these maps are usually DD maps. (Destruction Derby) You never leave the vehicle, but It's still really fun, thanks to the map editor there are great possibilites for new ideas, and playing styles. 2) The MTA devs are working on the Deathmatch client, where you will be able to walk around, shoot others, get into vehicles etc. This information is also available on the main page. Check out the videos too, they show pretty much what is possible with the MTA race client.
  4. What is SAAC? I didn't know, could only find this tho: It seems like it's a tool for GTA:SA. "Axis mapping, force feedback support, keyboard mapping..." While this would be really nice to have, I think I wouldn't prioritize it right now. But certainly a good feature to add...
  5. I'm pretty sure no one has mentioned this, if it has then there's no need for this topic. Anyway, the stringcomparison when trying to kick a player just isn't working very well in my opinion. As long as a player has a name longer than 3 characters it's usually not a problem, but if the player has a name with just one character it becomes a problem. There was a guy that joined the server where I'm admin, naming only himself as "I", he started spamming at one point, so I proceeded to try and kick him. However "rcon kick I" resulted in the kicking of three other players before it saw fit to kick I. Those three players had an I or i in their name. One solution for this might possible to do in the form of the map nomination window, that if there is a conflict as to what player to kick, it will list the players names that has the written string in their name. Most likely these will never be more than 9, so it shouldn't be a problem. Please consider this for the next patch. Also, if this has happened to anyone else, please post here to confirm it.

    map with npc

Not with MTA... Amatuer lecture below: NPC's and Cars etc. all have a position and vector that needs to be synchronized between you and your friend. Also, cars and such are all generated when you come in contact with them, that is when they hit your draw distance... So as far as you're concerned cars and people don't exist until they come inside your draw distance (correct me if i'm wrong, I just think this is how it works). So if you two are at different locations, you have to transmit position and vector of every car and npc within your draw distance. And the other way around for your friend. I'm not really sure how large each packet containing position and vector is in MTA, but let's say it's somewhere around 48 bits (position and vector). This data needs to be transferred every frame to be smooth. So let's multiply! 48 bits * 25 frames per second = 1200 bits/second (Per moving object/actor) So let's say you have 20 moving objects within your draw distance, and your friend also has 20 (to keep it simple). 1200 * 20 = 24000 bits/second (24kbits/second) That is, for each second you're downloading and uploading 24kbits/second. This might not look to be much, and is fairly doable if there's only two players in the game. But this is only if things are moving, let's say you have a gangwar going on. And your homies are shooting wildly at some other gang. Then there's even more data to synchronize, and I'm pretty sure that at one point or another this will bring your connection to it's knees. (Come to think of it, no need to transfer data about cars and stuff the other player can't even see. As it doesn't affect him) But hey! What do I know, I've never programmed anything like MTA. I'm not saying it's impossible to do, in fact I think it would be possible if you spend a lot of time to work on it. Either way, there's a lot of stuff happening in GTA:SA singleplayer, and I'm pretty sure bandwidth is the greatest issue that might hinder seamless gameplay.

    M!C PipeDream Video

Fairly decent video, good camera work so to speak. Would love to see a video of tricks involving 2 or more players... But why'd you have to have a remix of Prodigy - Voodoo People (Pendulum remix) in there? Totally butchered it imo
  8. Ehm, so how do you win? Looking at those screens i'd say it's just a "sit back and watch" race...
  9. Now this is more like what I was looking for, now the only thing we need is to put a link where no one can miss it. Thank you JonChappell for actually contributing, and not focusing on what can't be done, and instead looking for what CAN be done.
  10. Think there's some drawdistance mod that might help. I think you can force a drawdistance that is greater than the maximum allowed through the game with it.
  11. Can't we at least get a short explanation of what a reasonable suggestion is? Cuz surely having a little sticky of frequently suggested features would do some good? Just trying to help... Edit: Feel free to remove this once you've concluded that anything like this will be done
  12. The pointless post to end most pointless posts was the purpose of this... If nothing else there should be some sort of list of either suggestions being considered, or general guidelines to what type of suggestions will be considered. I think you can agree that information regarding about upcoming features and fixes is far too hard to get a hold of, and as such it's ignorant to assume that the majority of this community has read it. Unless some people put up the effort to enlighten the rest of the community then these posts will never end. The poll was only there for one reason, to get the opinion of as many people as possible. So far there are 6 votes, and only 3 posts (by 2 people). And given the growth rate of this community I think it's well warranted to use a poll in order to gather as many opinions as possible. Semi-retired, if nothing else you and I could put together a thread with whatever information we can find regarding new features and fixes. With of course the header "Not Confirmed"...

    Help!

The search function is a powerful tool... Or atleast the "What Version of San Andreas do i need" thread would have been a good place to start... http://forum.mtavc.com/viewtopic.php?t=15723
  14. This suggestion is quite simple, a little sticky with a list of things that have been added so far. It would reduce repeated suggestions for things that have already been added. The information about the known additions in Race 1.1 is a little spread out, and collecting it right here where most people will find it feels like a good idea to me.
  15. I'm not quite sure how big it is, but I did find out the measurements for the Haybreak object. The Haybreak is 4*4*3 (width*length*depth)
  16. I really wish there was better ways of recording videos, smaller sizes at better quality... Then you'd really see people doing crazy stuff ^^
  17. If your ping is below stable below 100, you can play at mta.mictech.org There's upload, and link to the server in the game on this site: http://mta.mictech.org/index.php It's a swedish server, just so you know...

    A few maps

Of course it does give advantages, but I really don't mind that one or two extra seconds. And I'm pretty sure the Infernus is based on the Honda NSX...

I think I did, but Print Screen only lasts if you don't copy something else... I could ask my friend if he saved it tho...

    A few maps

The Infernus IS 4 wheel drive, myself and 3 others confirmed it. And if you pop your front wheels off an edge. You can pull yourself back... Also, the spread out start grid is meant to elliviate the problem of being stuck behind a lagger that potentially can kill you. And with a little skill you can slip around him and start working yourself up. (Even with a full 24 player start grid on Wu Zi Mu i've seen repeatedly that experienced players make it to the top 10 in the start alone, regardless of spawnpoint) And as for "Streetracing gone bad" the Hydras cannot kill eachother until the race starts (countdown reaches 0), Like you can if you're a hunter on Smugglers Run and happen to spawn behind someone. It is certainly possible to kill someone shortly after the start, but it has never happened to me. Just turn those nozzles and off you go, and they won't be able to get you. Note: There is not a single race that spawnpoint doesn't make a difference, I just try to give the player a choice at the start, instead of leaving it up to "SHIT, completely boxed in!". Don't judge a book by it's cover

    A few maps

These are thought out maps, the winner is decided by the skill of the driver. And NOT where you spawn, or how lucky you are. If you have any constructive thoughts, feel free to post them. It's easier to make maps if you know what people look for in a map. Intersection DD: http://center.mtasa.com/?p=race&r=2529 Some of the regulars on the server I play at have said that this is the best DD map they've played. I think they might be right to some extent... But still, don't hesitate to check it out! Infernal DD: http://center.mtasa.com/?p=race&r=2530 I really didn't think this would be popular, but the voting proved the opposite. Similar to Intersection DD, but with faster cars and smoother turns. Infernal Overdrive: http://center.mtasa.com/?p=race&r=2531 Drifting is fun, but this is almost ridiculous! Fast 4 wheel drive cars offroad makes for an unparalleled sense of speed. Careful in those turns tho, most people don't make it to the finishline... Infernal Overdrive 2: http://center.mtasa.com/?p=race&r=2532 Similar to Infernal Overdrive, but with higher survival rate. Also slightly longer. Streetracing gone bad: http://center.mtasa.com/?p=race&r=2533 Have you ever tried to run away from a Hydra? It's certainly an adrenaline kick. You spawn as either Hydra or Turismo. Hydra spawns are placed in such a manner that they cannot kill each other before race starts (like you can in Smugglers Run). Also, only cars can finish the race. Somebody up there DD: http://center.mtasa.com/?p=race&r=2536 A simple concept testing map, the smart way of playing it is to try to push the dumpsters. And hit the cars driving around below. Really fun when you actually hit someone Edit: Visit http://mta.mictech.org/ for link to a server that runs them all, but please read the rules first...
  22. Well, instead of having a lot of different threads with just a few screens in them, I thought it would be better to use just one that anyone can post in. Minor guidelines: Please don't spam or flame, after all, no one will want to scroll through 20 posts before seeing an actual screenshot. Short description of screenshots would be nice, since context usually is just as important as the screenshot itself. Close call on Waterworld DD (yes I was that close): What you get when people know what to do on Cops and Robbers maps: One of the benefits of lag when trying to "lock down" a suspect: These aren't the coolest ones you'll run across, so I'm hoping everyone else will post really cool screenshots!

I've actually had the same time as a friend on a race, sadly I wasn't the one who won... Still nice you got it on screenshot
  24. First of all, I don't even think you can try to push explosive barrels, and if you can it probably would take some work-around to get it working. The way I see it, there are at least 2 different types of physics enabled objects. First is the type that you can only hit once, and the other is objects you can keep hitting and still get them to move. Now, the problem is that without having something that pushes the barrels (or whatever), the objects won't start moving. Most objects have some sort of force of impact threshold for moving/breaking. And without that impact a physics enabled object won't start moving. There might be some way for this to work tho, since the steps on the escalator move. And if you would place a barrel close enough to the top of it, then a step would hit it. Making it drop, or explode which is the more plausible scenario. One thing is for sure though, I think this wouldn't be a priority for the devs for quite a while. And there are still alot of things they can work on for the map editor. Oh, and another thing: I made a map called Somebody Up There DD with a similar concept. Where half the players drop dumpsters onto the other half of the players below, who were placed on haybreaks. Works quite well, if you know what to do...
