Modified Version of the MTA Client!?

I keep getting a message when I try to press Start Game that says:

"You are running a modified version of the MTA Client. Please reinstall."

And I haven't done anything to any of the MTA files. I've also tried reinstalling MTA, it does nothing.

happens to me sometimes, however just closing MTA and opening it again works for me.

Upon hitting Start Game the client informs you your CLIENT is modifed.

This is an error with the way we temporarily replace some of the games files. When you install take a back up of both weapon.dat and weapon.mta from the /gta?/data/ directory and put them somewhere safe. If you get this error close the client, REPLACE both files and retry.

I have same problem and i have done that solution but it doesn't help. Still "You have modified version of MTA. Please reinstall"

I've tried pretty much everything here and in the solutions thread. I've reinstalled about 4 times now trying the fix and still nothing. This sucks ass, MTA 0.4 worked fine for me, but this one just refuses to start no matter what I try!

Can someone please help. Or give some better instructions on how to fix this.

Yep, they added some extra anti-cheat code into 0.5 which seems to be a bit too over-sensitive. It's difficult to give a solution though because they haven't given us many details on the new anti-cheat stuff (for obvious reasons).

I did a search for the key words, and I got at least 10 pages of posts regarding this problem. Somebody do something!!

I experience this problem also, but I did not before. I used to be able to just play to my heart's content, but now, this damn error is ******* up my day. I just want to play some damn MTA.

look just reinstall it and if that dont work delete the installation programme u got and search 4 another on mtavc.com and look 4 another installation and than install it, if that dont work than keep on doing it again

ok first find weapon mta and weapon and anthin else that says weapon and make a back up if weapon mta is not there install mta then it will be. ok now delete weapon mta not weapon and anythin else like orginall weapon must be deleted. now go into mta hit start game. cannot copy weapon ete sud come up then game sud start and freeze in loading wen u got out of the froozen game unintall mta then reinstall it this then puts a new weapon mta in folder u may not see it stright away. ok now put ip in ete and find the right version type hit reset config file and hit start game u may have to find the vice icon do so and it sud work if not ure vice version is wrong just change it and try again if prob still happen then close mta and replace the weapon stuff wid the backups i found i dident need to do this anyway try this i hope it helps

I tried both solutions and none have worked. The problem is not with the executables but with the servers. I know this because I have been using the same mta executable since beginning of 2005 and had no trouble. Only recently (since the addition of the new cheat detection I guess) have I had this problem. I suppose if reinstalling my game wont fix this, MTA version 0.5.5 should.

Finally got it to work.

The reason for the modified client message is because at one time or another you either purposely or accidentally modified your gta vc files.

If you haven't figured this out, all you have to do is reinstall gta Vice city.

after reinstallation it is important that you do not apply any updates, patches, or mods(unless you lost your CD and are running off a backup, in which case feel free to use some kind of noCD hack). then just run MTA and connect to any server.

You might encounter a problem where as you are loading the environment, you get stuck at the loading screen(the one with copyright information, not the 'greetings from vice city'). If that happens, restart Vice city, and after pressing start multi theft auto, just as you see the message of the day, repeatedly press the right or left arrow button. This cycles you through the spawn areas, and loads each one as you are on them. You can stop when you can clearly see one of the spawn areas, or after the third time you see the 'vice city' palm tree loading screen. Then you just pick your class and start playing.

Remember, if you want MTA, don't mod.
