orappa Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Do you mean like Half-Life, where they released the source code so that people could mod every aspect of the game for total conversions? MTA is not planned for an open source release.
happyrock Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Didn't they release a mod source code? not the total
Kent747 Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 we will when its ready we are still adding a lot of functionality to the addon code base itself, and without BLUE being closer to completion its hard to fully test everything before we release... We will try to get the addon code released whenever we feel its ready. Kent
MAD_BOY Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 kent, he meant the WHOLE mta source, including netcode and stuff...
SM xenex Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 is the source to mod out yet ?? ,, No, he didnt . He ment the source to be able to make addons for blue.
Guest Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 He ment the source to be able to make addons for blue. - Correct
eAi Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Some people are so bad at reading (or want to appear that way). As Kent says, we'll have info on the SDK nearer the release (i.e. in the future). eAi
orappa Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 It wasn't that I misread the question - I didn't actually understand it. "Source to mod" is incredibly vague.
SM xenex Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 i wasnt implying you did, my post and i think eai's was mostly at mad boy and happyrock as they were the ones that misundestood him and tought he ment something else, you simply asked him to clarify
Guest Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 kent, he meant the WHOLE mta source, including netcode and stuff... Maybe if you handed that full source code out, you'd not have some of these people clamoring about it in the first place. There's nothing saying they're going to be 100% compatible with the servers, and security by obscurity is a bad idea.
Kent747 Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I agree with you that security by obscurity is a _bad_ thing, but from the perspective of the way in which this mod works, thats our only method. In a true online game the server is responsible for all major decision making. But without the source code to GTA the server is blind, and a lot of control is given to the client. As such, the only method we have of securing the game is by protecting the client as much as possible. Kent
